¹แล้วข้าพเจ้าขอพูดว่า ตราบใดที่ทายาทยังเป็นเด็กอยู่เขาก็ไม่ต่างอะไรกับทาสเลย ถึงแม้เขาจะเป็นเจ้าของทรัพย์สมบัติทั้งปวง

¹But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all;

²แต่เขาก็อยู่ใต้บังคับของผู้ปกครองและผู้ดูแล จนถึงเวลาที่บิดาได้กำหนดไว้

²but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.

³ฝ่ายเราก็เหมือนกัน เมื่อเป็นเด็กอยู่ เราก็เป็นทาสอยู่ใต้บังคับโลกธรรม

³So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world.

⁴แต่เมื่อครบกำหนดแล้ว พระเจ้าก็ทรงใช้พระบุตรของพระองค์มาประสูติจากสตรีเพศ และทรงถือกำเนิดใต้พระราชบัญญัติ

⁴But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,

⁵เพื่อจะทรงไถ่คนเหล่านั้นที่อยู่ใต้พระราชบัญญัติ เพื่อให้เราได้รับฐานะเป็นบุตร

⁵that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children.

⁶และเพราะท่านเป็นบุตรแล้ว พระเจ้าจึงทรงใช้พระวิญญาณแห่งพระบุตรของพระองค์เข้ามาในใจของท่าน ร้องว่า "อับบา" คือพระบิดา

⁶And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Abba is a Greek spelling for the Aramaic word for “Father” or “Daddy” used in a familiar, respectful, and loving way. Father!”

⁷เหตุฉะนั้นท่านจึงไม่ใช่ทาสอีกต่อไป แต่เป็นบุตร และถ้าเป็นบุตรแล้วท่านก็เป็นทายาทของพระเจ้าโดยทางพระคริสต์

⁷So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

⁸แต่ก่อนนี้เมื่อท่านทั้งหลายยังไม่รู้จักพระเจ้า ท่านเป็นทาสของสิ่งซึ่งโดยสภาพแล้วไม่ใช่พระเลย

⁸However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods.

⁹แต่บัดนี้เมื่อท่านรู้จักพระเจ้าแล้ว หรือที่ถูกก็คือพระเจ้าทรงรู้จักท่านแล้ว เหตุไฉนท่านจึงจะกลับไปหาโลกธรรมซึ่งอ่อนแอและอนาถา และอยากจะเป็นทาสของสิ่งเหล่านั้นอีก

⁹But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

¹⁰ท่านถือวัน เดือน ฤดู และปี

¹⁰You observe days, months, seasons, and years.

¹¹ข้าพเจ้าเกรงว่าการที่ข้าพเจ้าได้ทำเพื่อท่านนั้นจะไร้ประโยชน์

¹¹I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.

¹²พี่น้องทั้งหลาย ข้าพเจ้าวิงวอนให้ท่านเป็นเหมือนข้าพเจ้า เพราะว่าข้าพเจ้าก็ได้เป็นอย่างท่านแล้วเหมือนกัน ท่านไม่ได้ทำผิดต่อข้าพเจ้าเลย

¹²I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong,

¹³ท่านรู้ว่าตอนแรกที่ข้าพเจ้าประกาศข่าวประเสริฐแก่ท่านนั้น ก็ทำโดยความอ่อนกำลังแห่งเนื้อหนัง

¹³but you know that because of weakness of the flesh I preached the Good News to you the first time.

¹⁴และการทดลองของข้าพเจ้าซึ่งอยู่ในเนื้อหนังของข้าพเจ้า ท่านก็ไม่ได้ดูหมิ่นหรือปฏิเสธ แต่ได้ต้อนรับข้าพเจ้าเหมือนกับว่าเป็นทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งของพระเจ้า หรือเหมือนกับพระเยซูคริสต์

¹⁴That which was a temptation to you in my flesh, you didn’t despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

¹⁵ความปลื้มใจที่ท่านได้กล่าวไว้ไปอยู่ที่ไหนเสียแล้ว เพราะข้าพเจ้าเป็นพยานให้ท่านได้ว่า ถ้าเป็นไปได้ท่านก็คงจะควักตาของท่านออกให้ข้าพเจ้า

¹⁵What was the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.

¹⁶ข้าพเจ้าจึงได้กลายเป็นศัตรูของท่านเพราะข้าพเจ้าบอกความจริงแก่ท่านหรือ

¹⁶So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

¹⁷คนเหล่านั้นเอาอกเอาใจท่าน แต่ไม่ใช่ด้วยความหวังดีเลย เขาอยากจะกีดกันพวกท่านเพื่อท่านจะได้เอาอกเอาใจพวกเขา

¹⁷They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.

¹⁸การเอาอกเอาใจด้วยความหวังดีก็เป็นการดีตลอดไป ไม่ใช่เฉพาะแต่เมื่อข้าพเจ้าอยู่กับพวกท่านเท่านั้น

¹⁸But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.

¹⁹ลูกน้อยของข้าพเจ้าเอ๋ย ข้าพเจ้าต้องเจ็บปวดเพราะท่านอีกจนกว่าพระคริสต์จะได้ทรงก่อร่างขึ้นในตัวท่าน

¹⁹My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you—

²⁰ข้าพเจ้าปรารถนาจะอยู่กับพวกท่านเดี๋ยวนี้ และเปลี่ยนน้ำเสียงของข้าพเจ้า เพราะว่าข้าพเจ้ามีข้อสงสัยในตัวท่าน

²⁰but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.

²¹ท่านที่อยากอยู่ใต้พระราชบัญญัติ ท่านไม่ได้ฟังพระราชบัญญัติหรือ จงบอกข้าพเจ้าเถิด

²¹Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don’t you listen to the law?

²²เพราะมีเขียนไว้ว่า อับราฮัมมีบุตรชายสองคน คนหนึ่งเกิดจากหญิงทาสี อีกคนหนึ่งเกิดจากหญิงที่เป็นไทย

²²For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman.

²³บุตรที่เกิดจากหญิงทาสีนั้นก็เกิดตามเนื้อหนัง แต่ส่วนบุตรที่เกิดจากหญิงที่เป็นไทยนั้นเกิดตามพระสัญญา

²³However, the son by the handmaid was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.

²⁴ข้อความนี้เป็นอุปไมย ผู้หญิงสองคนนั้นได้แก่พันธสัญญาสองอย่าง คนหนึ่งมาจากภูเขาซีนาย คลอดลูกเป็นทาส คือ นางฮาการ์

²⁴These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.

²⁵นางฮาการ์นั้นได้แก่ภูเขาซีนายในประเทศอาระเบีย ตรงกับกรุงเยรูซาเล็มปัจจุบัน เพราะกรุงนี้กับพลเมืองเป็นทาสอยู่

²⁵For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to the Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children.

²⁶แต่ว่ากรุงเยรูซาเล็มซึ่งอยู่เบื้องบนนั้นเป็นไทย เป็นมารดาของเราทั้งปวง

²⁶But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

²⁷เพราะมีคำเขียนไว้แล้วว่า `จงชื่นชมยินดีเถิด หญิงหมันผู้ไม่คลอดบุตร จงเปล่งเสียงโห่ร้อง เจ้าผู้ไม่ได้เจ็บครรภ์ ด้วยว่าหญิงที่ต้องอยู่อย่างโดดเดี่ยวก็ยังมีบุตรมากกว่าหญิงที่ยังมีสามีอยู่กับนางมากมายนัก'

²⁷For it is written, “Rejoice, you barren who don’t bear. Break forth and shout, you that don’t travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband.” Isaiah 54:1

²⁸พี่น้องทั้งหลาย บัดนี้เราเป็นบุตรแห่งพระสัญญาเช่นเดียวกับอิสอัค

²⁸Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

²⁹แต่ในครั้งนั้นผู้ที่เกิดตามเนื้อหนังได้ข่มเหงผู้ที่เกิดตามพระวิญญาณฉันใด ปัจจุบันนี้ก็เหมือนกันฉันนั้น

²⁹But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.

³⁰แต่พระคัมภีร์ว่าอย่างไร ก็ว่า `จงไล่หญิงทาสีกับบุตรชายของนางไปเสียเถิด เพราะว่าบุตรชายของหญิงทาสีจะเป็นผู้รับมรดกร่วมกับบุตรชายของหญิงที่เป็นไทยไม่ได้'

³⁰However what does the Scripture say? “Throw out the handmaid and her son, for the son of the handmaid will not inherit with the son of the free woman.” Genesis 21:10

³¹เหตุฉะนั้น พี่น้องทั้งหลาย เราไม่ใช่บุตรของหญิงทาสี แต่เป็นบุตรของหญิงที่เป็นไทย

³¹So then, brothers, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the free woman.
