1ภายหลังเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้พระดำรัสของพระเยโฮวาห์มาถึงอับรามด้วยนิมิตว่า "อับราม อย่ากลัวเลย เราเป็นโล่ของเจ้าและเป็นบำเหน็จยิ่งใหญ่ของเจ้า"
1After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
2อับรามทูลว่า "ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้า พระองค์จะทรงโปรดประทานอะไรแก่ข้าพระองค์ ด้วยว่าข้าพระองค์ยังไม่มีบุตร และคนต้นเรือนแห่งครัวเรือนของข้าพระองค์คนนี้แหละคือเอลีเยเซอร์ชาวเมืองดามัสกัส"
2Abram said, “Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”
3อับรามทูลว่า "ดูเถิด พระองค์มิได้ทรงประทานเชื้อสายให้แก่ข้าพระองค์ และดูเถิด คนหนึ่งที่เกิดในบ้านข้าพระองค์เป็นผู้รับมรดกของข้าพระองค์"
3Abram said, “Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir.”
4ดูเถิด พระดำรัสของพระเยโฮวาห์มาถึงท่านว่า "คนนี้จะไม่ได้เป็นผู้รับมรดกของเจ้า แต่ผู้ที่จะออกมาจากบั้นเอวของเจ้าจะเป็นผู้รับมรดกของเจ้า"
4Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir, but he who will come out of your own body will be your heir.”
5พระองค์จึงนำท่านออกมากลางแจ้งและตรัสว่า "จงมองดูฟ้าและนับดวงดาวทั้งหลาย ถ้าเจ้าสามารถนับมันได้" และพระองค์ตรัสแก่ท่านว่า "เชื้อสายของเจ้าจะเป็นเช่นนั้น"
5Yahweh brought him outside, and said, “Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He said to Abram, “So shall your seed be.”
6ท่านเชื่อในพระเยโฮวาห์ และพระองค์ทรงนับว่าเป็นความชอบธรรมแก่ท่าน
6He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.
7พระองค์ตรัสแก่ท่านว่า "เราคือเยโฮวาห์ที่ได้พาเจ้าออกจากเมืองเออร์ของชาวเคลเดีย เพื่อยกดินแดนนี้ให้เป็นมรดกแก่เจ้า"
7He said to him, “I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it.”
8ท่านทูลว่า "ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้า ข้าพระองค์จะรู้ได้อย่างไรว่าข้าพระองค์จะได้ดินแดนนี้เป็นมรดก"
8He said, “Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”
9พระองค์ตรัสแก่ท่านว่า "จงเอาวัวตัวเมียอายุสามปี แพะตัวเมียอายุสามปี แกะตัวผู้อายุสามปี นกเขาตัวหนึ่งและนกพิราบหนุ่มตัวหนึ่งมาให้เรา"
9He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”
10ท่านจึงนำบรรดาสัตว์เหล่านี้มาและผ่ากลางตัวมันวางข้างละซีกตรงกัน แต่นกทั้งหลายนั้นท่านหาได้ผ่าไม่
10He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn’t divide the birds.
11เมื่อฝูงเหยี่ยวลงมาที่ซากสัตว์เหล่านั้น อับรามก็ไล่มันไปเสีย
11The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
12เมื่อดวงอาทิตย์ใกล้จะตก อับรามก็นอนหลับสนิท และดูเถิด ความหวาดกลัวความหดหู่ใจอย่างยิ่งก็ทับถมท่าน
12When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.
13พระองค์ตรัสแก่อับรามว่า "จงรู้แน่เถิดว่าเชื้อสายของเจ้าจะเป็นคนต่างด้าวในแผ่นดินที่ไม่ใช่ของพวกเขาและจะรับใช้พวกนั้น พวกนั้นจะกดขี่ข่มเหงพวกเขาสี่ร้อยปี
13He said to Abram, “Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

14I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth,

15but you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.

16In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.”

17It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.
18ในวันเดียวกันนั้นพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำพันธสัญญากับอับรามว่า "เราได้ยกแผ่นดินนี้แก่เชื้อสายของเจ้าแล้ว ตั้งแต่แม่น้ำอียิปต์ไปจนถึงแม่น้ำใหญ่ คือแม่น้ำยูเฟรติส
18In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:
19ทั้งแผ่นดินของคนเคไนต์ คนเคนัส คนขัดโมไนต์
19the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,
20คนฮิตไทต์ คนเปริสซี คนเรฟาอิม
20the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
21คนอาโมไรต์ คนคานาอัน คนเกอร์กาชี และคนเยบุส"
21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
