1พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงปรากฏแก่เขาที่ราบของมัมเร และเขานั่งอยู่ที่ประตูเต็นท์ในเวลาแดดร้อน
1Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.
2เขาจึงเงยหน้าขึ้นมองดู และดูเถิด มีชายสามคนยืนอยู่ข้างเขา เมื่อเขาเห็นท่านเหล่านั้นจึงวิ่งจากประตูเต็นท์ไปต้อนรับท่านเหล่านั้นและก้มหน้าของเขาลงถึงดิน
2He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,
3และพูดว่า "เจ้านายของข้าพเจ้า ถ้าบัดนี้ข้าพเจ้าเป็นที่โปรดปรานในสายตาของท่าน ขอท่านโปรดอย่าผ่านไปจากผู้รับใช้ของท่านเลย
3and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.
4ข้าพเจ้าขอความกรุณาจากท่านยอมให้เอาน้ำนิดหน่อยมาล้างเท้าของท่าน และให้ท่านทั้งหลายพักใต้ต้นไม้เถิด
4Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5ข้าพเจ้าจะไปเอาอาหารหน่อยหนึ่งมาให้และขอให้ท่านชื่นใจเถิด หลังจากนั้นจึงค่อยออกเดินทาง เพราะว่าท่านมายังผู้รับใช้ของท่านแล้ว" ท่านเหล่านั้นจึงว่า "จงทำตามที่เจ้ากล่าวเถิด"
5I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.” They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”
6อับราฮัมรีบเข้าไปในเต็นท์หานางซาราห์และพูดว่า "จงรีบเอาแป้งละเอียดสามถังมานวดแล้วทำขนมบนเตา"
6Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”
7อับราฮัมจึงวิ่งไปที่ฝูงสัตว์เอาลูกวัวอ่อนและดีตัวหนึ่งมอบให้ชายหนุ่มคนหนึ่งและเขาก็รีบปรุงเป็นอาหาร
7Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.
8เขาเอาเนย น้ำนมและลูกวัวซึ่งเขาได้ปรุงแล้วนั้นมาวางไว้ต่อหน้าท่านเหล่านั้น และเขายืนอยู่ข้างท่านเหล่านั้นใต้ต้นไม้แล้วท่านเหล่านั้นได้รับประทาน
8He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
9ท่านเหล่านั้นจึงกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "ซาราห์ภรรยาของเจ้าอยู่ที่ไหน" และเขาพูดว่า "ดูเถิด อยู่ในเต็นท์"
9They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “See, in the tent.”
10ท่านจึงกล่าวว่า "เราจะกลับมาหาเจ้าแน่นอนตามเวลาแห่งชีวิต และดูเถิด ซาราห์ภรรยาของเจ้าจะมีบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง" ซาราห์ได้ฟังอยู่ที่ประตูเต็นท์ซึ่งอยู่ข้างหลังท่าน
10He said, “I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
11อับราฮัมและซาราห์ก็มีอายุแก่ชรามากแล้ว และนางซาราห์ตามปกติของผู้หญิงก็หมดแล้ว
11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
12ฉะนั้นนางซาราห์จึงหัวเราะในใจพูดว่า "ข้าพเจ้าแก่แล้ว นายของข้าพเจ้าก็แก่ด้วย ข้าพเจ้าจะมีความยินดีอีกหรือ"
12Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
13พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับอับราฮัมว่า "ทำไมนางซาราห์หัวเราะพูดว่า `ข้าพเจ้าจะคลอดบุตรคนหนึ่งซึ่งข้าพเจ้าแก่แล้วจริงๆหรือ'
13Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?’
14มีสิ่งใดที่ยากเกินไปสำหรับพระเยโฮวาห์หรือ เมื่อถึงเวลากำหนดเราจะกลับมาหาเจ้าตามเวลาแห่งชีวิต และซาราห์จะมีบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง"
14Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son.”
15ดังนั้นนางซาราห์ปฏิเสธว่า "ข้าพระองค์มิได้หัวเราะ" เพราะนางกลัว และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "ไม่ใช่ แต่เจ้าหัวเราะ"
15Then Sarah denied, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
16บุรุษเหล่านั้นก็ลุกขึ้นจากที่นั่นและมองไปทางเมืองโสโดม อับราฮัมไปกับท่านเหล่านั้นเพื่อตามไปส่ง
16The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
17พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "เราจะซ่อนสิ่งซึ่งเรากระทำจากอับราฮัมหรือ
17Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18ด้วยว่าอับราฮัมจะเป็นประชาชาติใหญ่โตและมีกำลังมากอย่างแน่นอน และบรรดาประชาชาติทั้งหลายในแผ่นดินโลกจะได้รับพระพรเพราะเขา
18since Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
19เพราะว่าเรารู้จักเขา เขาจะสั่งลูกหลานและครอบครัวของเขาที่สืบมา พวกเขาจะรักษาพระมรรคาของพระเยโฮวาห์ เพื่อทำความยุติธรรมและการพิพากษา เพื่อพระเยโฮวาห์จะประทานแก่อับราฮัมตามสิ่งซึ่งพระองค์ได้ตรัสไว้เกี่ยวกับเขา"
19For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”
20พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "เพราะเสียงร้องของเมืองโสโดมและเมืองโกโมราห์ดังมากและเพราะบาปของพวกเขาก็หนักเหลือเกิน
20Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
21เราจะลงไปเดี๋ยวนี้ดูว่าพวกเขากระทำตามเสียงร้องทั้งสิ้นซึ่งมาถึงเราหรือไม่ ถ้าไม่ เราจะรู้"
21I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”
22บุรุษเหล่านั้นหันหน้าจากที่นั่นไปทางเมืองโสโดม แต่อับราฮัมยังยืนอยู่ต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์
22The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.
23อับราฮัมเข้ามาใกล้ทูลว่า "พระองค์จะทรงทำลายคนชอบธรรมพร้อมกับคนชั่วด้วยหรือ
23Abraham drew near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
24บางทีมีคนชอบธรรมห้าสิบคนในเมืองนั้น พระองค์จะทรงทำลายและไม่ละเว้นเมืองนั้นเพราะคนชอบธรรมห้าสิบคนที่อยู่ในนั้นด้วยหรือ
24What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?
25ขอพระองค์อย่ากระทำเช่นนี้เลย ที่จะฆ่าคนชอบธรรมพร้อมกับคนชั่ว และให้คนชอบธรรมเหมือนอย่างคนชั่ว ให้การนั้นอยู่ห่างไกลจากพระองค์ ผู้พิพากษาของทั่วแผ่นดินโลกจะไม่กระทำการยุติธรรมหรือ"
25Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”
26พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "ถ้าเราพบคนชอบธรรมในท่ามกลางเมืองโสโดมห้าสิบคน เราจะละเว้นทั้งเมืองเพราะเห็นแก่พวกเขา"
26Yahweh said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake.”
27อับราฮัมทูลตอบว่า "ดูเถิด กรุณาเถิด ข้าพระองค์มีเจตนาทูลต่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ซึ่งข้าพระองค์เป็นเพียงผงคลีดินและขี้เถ้า
27Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes.
28บางทีคนชอบธรรมห้าสิบคนจะขาดไปห้าคน พระองค์จะทรงทำลายเมืองนั้นทั้งเมืองเพราะขาดห้าคนหรือ" พระองค์ตรัสว่า "ถ้าเราพบสี่สิบห้าคนที่นั่น เราจะไม่ทำลายเมืองนั้น"
28What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there.”
29เขายังทูลต่อพระองค์อีกครั้งว่า "บางทีจะพบสี่สิบคนที่นั่น" และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "เราจะไม่กระทำเพราะเห็นแก่สี่สิบคน"
29He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”
30เขาทูลต่อพระองค์ว่า "ขอทรงโปรดอย่าให้องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงพระพิโรธเลย และข้าพระองค์จะกราบทูล บางทีจะพบสามสิบคนที่นั่น" และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "เราจะไม่กระทำถ้าเราพบสามสิบคนที่นั่น"
30He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”
31เขาทูลว่า "ดูเถิด กรุณาเถิด ข้าพระองค์มีเจตนาทูลต่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า บางทีจะพบยี่สิบคนที่นั่น" และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "เราจะไม่ทำลายเมืองนั้นเพราะเห็นแก่ยี่สิบคน"
31He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”
32เขาทูลว่า "ขอทรงโปรดอย่าให้องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงพระพิโรธเลย และข้าพระองค์จะยังกราบทูลครั้งนี้ครั้งเดียว บางทีจะพบสิบคนที่นั่น" และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "เราจะไม่ทำลายเมืองนั้นเพราะเห็นแก่สิบคน"
32He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”
33เมื่อพระองค์ทรงมีพระราชปฏิสันถารกับอับราฮัมจบลงแล้ว พระเยโฮวาห์ได้เสด็จไปและอับราฮัมก็กลับไปที่อยู่ของตน
33Yahweh went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
