1ซาราห์มีอายุหนึ่งร้อยยี่สิบเจ็ดปี ซาราห์มีชีวิตถึงอายุนี้
1Sarah lived one hundred twenty-seven years. This was the length of Sarah’s life.
2แล้วซาราห์ก็สิ้นชีวิตที่เมืองคีริยาทอารบา คือเมืองเฮโบรน ในแผ่นดินคานาอัน อับราฮัมไว้ทุกข์ให้ซาราห์และร้องไห้คิดถึงนาง
2Sarah died in Kiriath Arba (the same is Hebron), in the land of Canaan. Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3อับราฮัมยืนขึ้นหน้าศพพูดกับลูกหลานของเฮทว่า
3Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,
4"ข้าพเจ้าเป็นคนต่างด้าวและเป็นคนมาอาศัยอยู่ท่ามกลางท่าน ขอท่านให้ที่ดินท่ามกลางท่านเป็นสุสาน เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้ฝังผู้ตายของข้าพเจ้าให้พ้นสายตาไป"
4“I am a stranger and a foreigner living with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”
5ลูกหลานของเฮทตอบอับราฮัมว่า
5The children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,
6"นายเจ้าข้า โปรดฟังพวกเรา ท่านเป็นเจ้านายจากพระเจ้าท่ามกลางเรา ขอให้ฝังผู้ตายของท่านในอุโมงค์ฝังศพที่ดีที่สุดของเราเถิด ไม่มีผู้ใดในพวกเราที่จะหวงสุสานของเขาไว้ไม่ให้ท่าน หรือขัดขวางท่านมิให้ฝังผู้ตายของท่าน"
6“Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God among us. Bury your dead in the best of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb. Bury your dead.”
7อับราฮัมก็ลุกขึ้นกราบลงต่อหน้าลูกหลานของเฮทชาวแผ่นดินนั้น
7Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8และพูดกับพวกเขาว่า "ถ้าท่านยินยอมให้ข้าพเจ้าฝังผู้ตายของข้าพเจ้าให้พ้นสายตาไปแล้ว ขอฟังข้าพเจ้าเถิด และวิงวอนเอโฟรนบุตรชายโศหาร์เพื่อข้าพเจ้า
8He talked with them, saying, “If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

9that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me among you for a possession of a burying-place.”
10ฝ่ายเอโฟรนอาศัยอยู่ท่ามกลางลูกหลานของเฮท เอโฟรนคนฮิตไทต์จึงตอบอับราฮัมให้บรรดาลูกหลานของเฮทผู้ที่เข้าไปที่ประตูเมืองของเขาฟังว่า
10Now Ephron was sitting in the middle of the children of Heth. Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11"อย่าเลย นายเจ้าข้า โปรดฟังข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าให้นานั้นแก่ท่านและให้ถ้ำที่อยู่ในนานั้นแก่ท่าน ด้วยข้าพเจ้าให้แก่ท่านต่อหน้าลูกหลานประชาชนของข้าพเจ้า ขอเชิญฝังผู้ตายของท่านเถิด"
11“No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. In the presence of the children of my people I give it to you. Bury your dead.”
12อับราฮัมก็กราบลงต่อหน้าชาวแผ่นดินนั้น
12Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.
13และท่านพูดกับเอโฟรนให้ชาวแผ่นดินนั้นฟังว่า "แต่ถ้าท่านยินยอมให้แล้ว ขอฟังข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจะจ่ายค่านานั้น ขอรับเงินจากข้าพเจ้าเถิด และข้าพเจ้าจะได้ฝังผู้ตายของข้าพเจ้าที่นั่น"
13He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, “But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there.”
14เอโฟรนตอบอับราฮัมว่า
14Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,
15"นายเจ้าข้า ขอฟังข้าพเจ้าเถิด ที่ดินแปลงนี้มีราคาเป็นเงินสี่ร้อยเชเขล สำหรับท่านกับข้าพเจ้าก็ไม่เท่าไร ฝังผู้ตายของท่านเถิด"
15“My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead.”
16อับราฮัมก็ฟังคำของเอโฟรน แล้วอับราฮัมก็ชั่งเงินให้เอโฟรนตามจำนวนที่เขาบอกให้ลูกหลานของเฮทฟังแล้ว คือเงินสี่ร้อยเชเขลตามน้ำหนักที่พวกพ่อค้าใช้กันในเวลานั้น
16Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the audience of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.
17นาของเอโฟรนในมัคเป-ลาห์ ซึ่งอยู่หน้ามัมเร มีนากับถ้ำซึ่งอยู่ในนั้น และต้นไม้ทั้งสิ้นซึ่งอยู่ในนาตลอดทั่วบริเวณนั้น จึงได้ขาย
17So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all of its borders, were deeded
18ให้แก่อับราฮัมเป็นกรรมสิทธิ์ต่อหน้าลูกหลานของเฮท คือต่อหน้าบรรดาผู้ที่เข้าไปที่ประตูเมืองของเขา
18to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.
19ต่อมาอับราฮัมก็ฝังศพนางซาราห์ภรรยาของตน ในถ้ำที่นามัคเป-ลาห์หน้ามัมเร คือเมืองเฮโบรน ในแผ่นดินคานาอัน
19After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (that is, Hebron), in the land of Canaan.
20นาและถ้ำซึ่งอยู่ในนั้นลูกหลานของเฮทยอมขายให้แก่อับราฮัมเป็นกรรมสิทธิ์เพื่อใช้เป็นสุสาน
20The field, and the cave that is in it, were deeded to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the children of Heth.
