¹When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I will die.”

²ยาโคบโกรธนางราเชล เขาจึงว่า "เราเป็นเหมือนพระเจ้า ผู้ไม่ให้เจ้ามีผู้บังเกิดจากครรภ์หรือ"

²Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in God’s place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”

³นางจึงบอกว่า "ดูเถิด บิลฮาห์สาวใช้ของข้าพเจ้า จงเข้าไปหานางเถิด นางจะได้มีบุตรเลี้ยงไว้ที่ตักของข้าพเจ้า เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้มีบุตรด้วยอาศัยหญิงคนนี้"

³She said, “Behold, my maid Bilhah. Go in to her, that she may bear on my knees, and I also may obtain children by her.”

⁴นางจึงยกบิลฮาห์สาวใช้ของตนให้เป็นภรรยาของยาโคบ ยาโคบก็เข้าไปหานาง

⁴She gave him Bilhah her handmaid as wife, and Jacob went in to her.

⁵บิลฮาห์ก็ตั้งครรภ์และคลอดบุตรชายให้แก่ยาโคบ

⁵Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son.

⁶นางราเชลว่า "พระเจ้าได้ทรงตัดสินเรื่องข้าพเจ้า และได้ทรงสดับฟังเสียงทูลของข้าพเจ้าจึงประทานบุตรชายแก่ข้าพเจ้า" เหตุฉะนี้นางจึงตั้งชื่อบุตรนั้นว่า ดาน

⁶Rachel said, “God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son.” Therefore called she his name Dan.

⁷บิลฮาห์สาวใช้ของนางราเชลตั้งครรภ์อีก และคลอดบุตรชายคนที่สองให้แก่ยาโคบ

⁷Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid, conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son.

⁸นางราเชลจึงว่า "ข้าพเจ้าปล้ำสู้กับพี่สาวของข้าพเจ้าเสียใหญ่โต และข้าพเจ้าได้ชัยชนะแล้ว" นางจึงให้ชื่อบุตรนั้นว่า นัฟทาลี

⁸Rachel said, “With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed.” She named him Naphtali.

⁹เมื่อนางเลอาห์เห็นว่าตนหยุดคลอดบุตร นางจึงยกศิลปาห์สาวใช้ของตนให้เป็นภรรยาของยาโคบ

⁹When Leah saw that she had finished bearing, she took Zilpah, her handmaid, and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

¹⁰ศิลปาห์สาวใช้ของเลอาห์ก็คลอดบุตรชายให้แก่ยาโคบ

¹⁰Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid, bore Jacob a son.

¹¹นางเลอาห์ว่า "กองทหารกำลังมา" จึงตั้งชื่อบุตรนั้นว่า กาด

¹¹Leah said, “How fortunate!” She named him Gad.

¹²แล้วศิลปาห์สาวใช้ของเลอาห์ ก็คลอดบุตรชายคนที่สองให้แก่ยาโคบ

¹²Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid, bore Jacob a second son.

¹³นางเลอาห์ก็ว่า "ข้าพเจ้ามีความสุขเพราะพวกบุตรสาวจะเรียกข้าพเจ้าว่าเป็นสุข" นางจึงตั้งชื่อบุตรนั้นว่า อาเชอร์

¹³Leah said, “Happy am I, for the daughters will call me happy.” She named him Asher.

¹⁴ในฤดูเกี่ยวข้าวสาลี รูเบนออกไปที่นาพบมะเขือดูดาอิม จึงเก็บผลมาให้นางเลอาห์มารดา ราเชลจึงพูดกับเลอาห์ว่า "ขอมะเขือดูดาอิมของบุตรชายของพี่ให้ข้าพเจ้าบ้าง"

¹⁴Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother, Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”

¹⁵นางเลอาห์ตอบนางว่า "ที่น้องแย่งสามีของข้าพเจ้าไปแล้วนั้นยังน้อยไปหรือจึงจะมาเอามะเขือดูดาอิมของบุตรชายข้าพเจ้าด้วย" ราเชลตอบว่า "ฉะนั้นถ้าให้มะเขือดูดาอิมของบุตรชายแก่ข้าพเจ้า คืนวันนี้เขาจะไปนอนกับพี่"

¹⁵She said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes, also?” Rachel said, “Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.”

¹⁶และยาโคบกลับมาจากนาเวลาเย็น นางเลอาห์ก็ออกไปต้อนรับเขาบอกว่า "จงเข้ามาหาข้าพเจ้าเถิด เพราะข้าพเจ้าให้มะเขือดูดาอิมของบุตรชายเป็นสินจ้างท่านแล้ว" คืนวันนั้นยาโคบก็นอนกับนาง

¹⁶Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, “You must come in to me; for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” He lay with her that night.

¹⁷พระเจ้าทรงสดับฟังนางเลอาห์ นางก็ตั้งครรภ์ และคลอดบุตรชายคนที่ห้าให้แก่ยาโคบ

¹⁷God listened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son.

¹⁸ฝ่ายนางเลอาห์พูดว่า "พระเจ้าทรงประทานสินจ้างนั้นให้แก่ข้าพเจ้า เพราะข้าพเจ้ายกหญิงคนใช้ให้สามี" นางจึงตั้งชื่อบุตรนั้นว่า อิสสาคาร์

¹⁸Leah said, “God has given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband.” She named him Issachar.

¹⁹นางเลอาห์ก็ตั้งครรภ์อีก และคลอดบุตรชายคนที่หกให้แก่ยาโคบ

¹⁹Leah conceived again, and bore a sixth son to Jacob.

²⁰แล้วนางเลอาห์จึงว่า "พระเจ้าทรงประทานของดีให้ข้าพเจ้า บัดนี้สามีจะอาศัยอยู่กับข้าพเจ้า เพราะข้าพเจ้าได้ให้บุตรชายแก่เขาหกคนแล้ว" นางจึงตั้งชื่อบุตรนั้นว่า เศบูลุน

²⁰Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good dowry. Now my husband will live with me, because I have borne him six sons.” She named him Zebulun.

²¹ต่อมาภายหลังนางก็คลอดบุตรสาวคนหนึ่งตั้งชื่อว่า ดีนาห์

²¹Afterwards, she bore a daughter, and named her Dinah.

²²พระเจ้าทรงระลึกถึงนางราเชล และพระเจ้าทรงสดับฟังนาง ทรงเปิดครรภ์ของนาง

²²God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and opened her womb.

²³นางก็ตั้งครรภ์คลอดบุตรเป็นชาย จึงกล่าวว่า "พระเจ้าทรงโปรดยกความอดสูของข้าพเจ้าไปเสีย"

²³She conceived, bore a son, and said, “God has taken away my reproach.”

²⁴นางจึงตั้งชื่อบุตรนั้นว่า โยเซฟ กล่าวว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงโปรดเพิ่มบุตรชายอีกคนหนึ่งให้ข้าพเจ้า"

²⁴She named him Joseph, Joseph means “may he add.” saying, “May Yahweh add another son to me.”

²⁵และต่อมาเมื่อนางราเชลคลอดโยเซฟแล้ว ยาโคบก็พูดกับลาบันว่า "ขอให้ข้าพเจ้ากลับไปบ้านเกิดและแผ่นดินของข้าพเจ้า

²⁵It happened, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, “Send me away, that I may go to my own place, and to my country.

²⁶ขอมอบภรรยากับบุตรให้ข้าพเจ้า ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้ทำงานรับใช้ท่านเพื่อเขาแล้ว และให้ข้าพเจ้าไปเถิด เพราะท่านรู้ว่าข้าพเจ้าได้รับใช้ท่านแล้ว"

²⁶Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service with which I have served you.”

²⁷แต่ลาบันตอบเขาว่า "ถ้าลุงเป็นที่พอใจเจ้าแล้ว จงอยู่ต่อเถิด เพราะลุงเรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์ว่าพระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงอวยพรเราเพราะเจ้า"

²⁷Laban said to him, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, stay here, for I have divined that Yahweh has blessed me for your sake.”

²⁸และเขาพูดว่า "เจ้าจะเรียกค่าจ้างเท่าไรก็บอกมาเถิด ลุงจะให้"

²⁸He said, “Appoint me your wages, and I will give it.”

²⁹ยาโคบตอบเขาว่า "ข้าพเจ้ารับใช้ลุงอย่างไร และสัตว์ของลุงอยู่กับข้าพเจ้าอย่างไร ลุงก็ทราบอยู่แล้ว

²⁹He said to him, “You know how I have served you, and how your livestock have fared with me.

³⁰เพราะว่าก่อนข้าพเจ้ามานั้นลุงมีแต่น้อย แต่บัดนี้ก็มีทวีขึ้นเป็นอันมาก ตั้งแต่ข้าพเจ้ามาถึง พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงอวยพระพรแก่ลุง และบัดนี้เมื่อไรข้าพเจ้าจะบำรุงครอบครัวของตนเองได้บ้างเล่า"

³⁰For it was little which you had before I came, and it has increased to a multitude. Yahweh has blessed you wherever I turned. Now when will I provide for my own house also?”

³¹ลาบันจึงถามว่า "ลุงควรจะให้อะไรเจ้า" ยาโคบตอบว่า "ลุงไม่ต้องให้อะไรข้าพเจ้าดอก แต่หากว่าลุงจะทำสิ่งนี้แก่ข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจะเลี้ยงระวังสัตว์ของลุงต่อไป

³¹He said, “What shall I give you?” Jacob said, “You shall not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flock and keep it.

³²คือวันนี้ข้าพเจ้าจะไปตรวจดูฝูงสัตว์ของลุงทั้งฝูง ข้าพเจ้าจะคัดแกะที่มีจุดและด่างทุกตัวออกจากฝูง และคัดแกะดำทุกตัวออกจากฝูงแกะ และแพะด่างกับที่มีจุดออกจากฝูงแพะ ให้สัตว์เหล่านี้เป็นค่าจ้างของข้าพเจ้า

³²I will pass through all your flock today, removing from there every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats. This will be my hire.

³³ดังนั้นความชอบธรรมของข้าพเจ้าจะเป็นคำตอบของข้าพเจ้าในเวลาภายหน้า คือเมื่อลุงมาตรวจดูค่าจ้างของข้าพเจ้า ถ้าพบตัวไม่มีจุดและที่ไม่ด่างอยู่ในฝูงแพะและตัวที่ไม่ดำในฝูงแกะ ก็ให้ถือเสียว่าข้าพเจ้ายักยอกสัตว์เหล่านี้มา"

³³So my righteousness will answer for me hereafter, when you come concerning my hire that is before you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that might be with me, will be counted stolen.”

³⁴ลาบันจึงตอบว่า "ดูเถิด ลุงตกลงตามที่เจ้าพูดนั้นเถิด"

³⁴Laban said, “Behold, let it be according to your word.”

³⁵วันนั้นเขาก็คัดแพะตัวผู้ที่ลายและที่ด่าง และแพะตัวเมียที่มีจุดและที่ด่าง แพะที่ขาวบ้างทั้งหมดและแกะดำทั้งหมด มามอบให้บุตรชายของเขา

³⁵That day, he removed the male goats that were streaked and spotted, and all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.

³⁶เขาแยกสัตว์ออกไปทั้งหมดห่างจากยาโคบเป็นระยะทางสามวัน ฝูงสัตว์ของลาบันที่เหลืออยู่นั้นยาโคบก็เลี้ยงไว้

³⁶He set three days’ journey between himself and Jacob, and Jacob fed the rest of Laban’s flocks.

³⁷ยาโคบเอากิ่งไม้สดจากต้นไค้ ต้นเสลา และต้นเปลน มาปอกเปลือกออกเป็นรอยขาวๆให้เห็นไม้สีขาว

³⁷Jacob took to himself rods of fresh poplar, almond, plane tree, peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

³⁸เขาวางไม้ที่ปอกเปลือกไว้ในร่องตรงหน้าฝูงสัตว์คือในรางน้ำที่ฝูงสัตว์มากินน้ำ เพื่อเมื่อมันมากินน้ำ มันจะตั้งท้อง

³⁸He set the rods which he had peeled opposite the flocks in the gutters in the watering-troughs where the flocks came to drink. They conceived when they came to drink.

³⁹ฝูงสัตว์ก็ตั้งท้องตรงหน้าไม้นั้น ดังนั้นฝูงสัตว์จึงมีลูกที่มีลายมีจุดและด่าง

³⁹The flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks produced streaked, speckled, and spotted.

⁴⁰ยาโคบก็แยกลูกแกะและให้ฝูงแพะแกะนั้นอยู่ตรงหน้าแกะที่มีลาย และแกะดำทุกตัวในฝูงของลาบัน แต่ฝูงแพะแกะของตนนั้นอยู่ต่างหาก ไม่ให้ปะปนกับฝูงสัตว์ของลาบัน

⁴⁰Jacob separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the streaked and all the black in the flock of Laban: and he put his own droves apart, and didn’t put them into Laban’s flock.

⁴¹อยู่มาเมื่อสัตว์ที่แข็งแรงในฝูงจะตั้งท้อง ยาโคบก็จัดไม้วางไว้ที่รางน้ำให้ฝูงสัตว์เห็นเพื่อให้มันตั้งท้องกลางไม้นั้น

⁴¹It happened, whenever the stronger of the flock conceived, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods;

⁴²และเมื่อสัตว์อ่อนแอ ยาโคบก็ไม่ใส่ไม้นั้นไว้ เหตุฉะนั้นสัตว์ที่อ่อนแอจึงตกเป็นของลาบัน แต่สัตว์ที่แข็งแรงเป็นของยาโคบ

⁴²but when the flock were feeble, he didn’t put them in. So the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Jacob’s.

⁴³ยาโคบก็มั่งมีมากขึ้น มีฝูงแพะแกะฝูงใหญ่ คนใช้ชายหญิง และฝูงอูฐฝูงลา

⁴³The man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, female servants and male servants, and camels and donkeys.
