1ยาโคบเดินทางมาถึงแผ่นดินของประชาชนชาวตะวันออก
1Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east.
2เขาก็มองไป และเห็นบ่อน้ำบ่อหนึ่งในทุ่งนา ดูเถิด มีฝูงแกะสามฝูงนอนอยู่ข้างบ่อนั้น เพราะคนเลี้ยงแกะเคยตักน้ำจากบ่อนั้นให้ฝูงแกะกิน และหินใหญ่ก็ปิดปากบ่อนั้น
2He looked, and behold, a well in the field, and, behold, three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.
3และฝูงแกะมาพร้อมกันที่นั่น แล้วคนเลี้ยงแกะก็กลิ้งหินออกจากปากบ่อตักน้ำให้ฝูงแกะกิน แล้วเอาหินปิดปากบ่อนั้นเสียดังเดิม
3There all the flocks were gathered. They rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again on the well’s mouth in its place.
4ยาโคบถามเขาทั้งหลายว่า "พี่น้องเอ๋ย ท่านมาจากไหน" เขาตอบว่า "เรามาจากเมืองฮาราน"
4Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”
5ยาโคบจึงถามเขาทั้งหลายว่า "ท่านรู้จักลาบันบุตรชายนาโฮร์หรือไม่" เขาตอบว่า "รู้จัก"
5He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”
6ยาโคบถามเขาทั้งหลายว่า "ลาบันสบายดีหรือ" เขาตอบว่า "สบายดี ดูเถิด บุตรสาวของเขาชื่อราเชลกำลังมาพร้อมกับฝูงแกะ"
6He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”
7ยาโคบจึงว่า "ดูเถิด เวลานี้ยังวันอยู่มาก ยังไม่ถึงเวลาที่จะให้ฝูงแพะแกะมารวมกัน จงเอาน้ำให้แกะเหล่านี้กินแล้วให้ไปกินหญ้าอีก"
7He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
8แต่เขาทั้งหลายตอบว่า "เราทำไม่ได้ จนกว่าแกะทุกๆฝูงจะมาพร้อมกัน และเขากลิ้งหินออกจากปากบ่อน้ำก่อน แล้วเราจึงจะเอาน้ำให้ฝูงแกะกิน"
8They said, “We can’t, until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth. Then we water the sheep.”
9เมื่อยาโคบกำลังพูดกับเขาทั้งหลายอยู่ ราเชลก็มาถึงพร้อมกับฝูงแกะของบิดา เพราะนางเป็นผู้เลี้ยงมัน
9While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she kept them.
10และต่อมาครั้นยาโคบแลเห็นราเชลบุตรสาวของลาบันพี่ชายมารดาของตน และฝูงแกะของลาบันพี่ชายมารดาของตน ยาโคบก็เข้าไปกลิ้งหินออกจากปากบ่อน้ำ เอาน้ำให้ฝูงแกะของลาบันพี่ชายมารดาของตนกิน
10It happened, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.
11ยาโคบจุบราเชลแล้วร้องไห้ด้วยเสียงดัง
11Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
12ยาโคบบอกราเชลว่าเขาเป็นหลานบิดาของนาง และเป็นบุตรชายของนางเรเบคาห์ นางก็วิ่งไปบอกบิดาของนาง
12Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son. She ran and told her father.
13ต่อมาครั้นลาบันได้ยินข่าวถึงยาโคบบุตรชายน้องสาวของตน เขาก็วิ่งไปพบและกอดจุบยาโคบและพามาบ้านของเขา ยาโคบก็เล่าเรื่องเหล่านี้ทั้งหมดให้ลาบันฟัง
13It happened, when Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister’s son, that he ran to meet Jacob, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things.
14ลาบันจึงพูดกับเขาว่า "เจ้าเป็นกระดูกและเนื้อของเราแท้ๆ" ยาโคบก็พักอยู่กับเขาเดือนหนึ่ง
14Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” He lived with him for a month.
15แล้วลาบันพูดกับยาโคบว่า "เพราะเจ้าเป็นหลานของเรา จึงไม่ควรที่เจ้าจะทำงานให้เราเปล่าๆ เจ้าจะเรียกค่าจ้างเท่าไร จงบอกมาเถิด"
15Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?”
16ลาบันมีบุตรสาวสองคน พี่สาวชื่อเลอาห์ น้องสาวชื่อราเชล
16Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17นางสาวเลอาห์นั้นตายิบหยี แต่นางสาวราเชลนั้นสละสลวยและงามน่าดู
17Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and attractive.
18ยาโคบก็รักนางสาวราเชล และพูดว่า "ข้าพเจ้าจะรับใช้การงานให้ท่านเจ็ดปี เพื่อได้ราเชลบุตรสาวคนเล็กของท่าน"
18Jacob loved Rachel. He said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter.”
19ลาบันจึงว่า "ให้เรายกบุตรสาวให้เจ้านั้นดีกว่าจะยกให้คนอื่น จงอยู่กับเราเถิด"
19Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”
20ยาโคบก็รับใช้อยู่เจ็ดปีเพื่อได้นางสาวราเชล เห็นเป็นเหมือนน้อยวันเพราะความรักที่เขามีต่อนาง
20Jacob served seven years for Rachel. They seemed to him but a few days, for the love he had for her.
21ยาโคบบอกลาบันว่า "เวลาที่กำหนดไว้ก็ครบแล้ว ขอให้ภรรยาข้าพเจ้าเถิด เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้เข้าไปหาเธอ"
21Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.”
22ลาบันจึงเชิญบรรดาชาวบ้านมาพร้อมกัน แล้วจัดการเลี้ยง
22Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
23และต่อมาครั้นเวลาค่ำ ลาบันก็พาเลอาห์บุตรสาวของตนมามอบให้แก่ยาโคบ และยาโคบก็เข้าไปหานาง
23It happened in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him. He went in to her.
24ลาบันยกศิลปาห์สาวใช้ของตนให้เป็นสาวใช้ของนางเลอาห์
24Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid.
25และต่อมาพอรุ่งขึ้น ดูเถิด เป็นนางเลอาห์ ยาโคบจึงกล่าวแก่ลาบันว่า "ลุงทำอะไรกับข้าพเจ้าเล่า ข้าพเจ้ารับใช้ลุงเพื่อได้ราเชลมิใช่หรือ ทำไมลุงจึงล่อลวงข้าพเจ้าเล่า"
25It happened in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”
26ลาบันจึงตอบว่า "ในแผ่นดินเราไม่มีธรรมเนียมที่จะยกน้องสาวให้ก่อนพี่หัวปี
26Laban said, “It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.
27ขอให้ครบเจ็ดวันของหญิงนี้ก่อน แล้วเราจะยกคนนั้นให้ด้วย เพื่อตอบแทนที่เจ้าจะได้รับใช้ลุงอีกเจ็ดปี"
27Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me yet seven other years.”
28ยาโคบก็ยอม และรอจนครบเจ็ดวันของนางแล้วลาบันก็ยกราเชลบุตรสาวให้เป็นภรรยาด้วย
28Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. He gave him Rachel his daughter as wife.
29ลาบันยกบิลฮาห์สาวใช้ของตนให้เป็นสาวใช้ของนางราเชล
29Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah, his handmaid, to be her handmaid.
30ฝ่ายยาโคบก็เข้าไปหาราเชลด้วย และเขารักราเชลมากกว่าเลอาห์ เขาจึงรับใช้ลาบันต่อไปอีกเจ็ดปี
30He went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
31เมื่อพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเห็นว่ายาโคบชังเลอาห์ พระองค์จึงทรงเปิดครรภ์ของนาง แต่ราเชลนั้นเป็นหมัน
31Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
32นางเลอาห์ตั้งครรภ์คลอดบุตรเป็นชาย และตั้งชื่อว่ารูเบน ด้วยนางว่า "เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทอดพระเนตรความทุกข์ใจของข้าพเจ้าแน่ๆ บัดนี้สามีจึงจะรักข้าพเจ้า"
32Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, “Because Yahweh has looked at my affliction. For now my husband will love me.”
33นางเลอาห์ตั้งครรภ์คลอดบุตรเป็นชายอีกคนหนึ่งและว่า "เหตุพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงได้ยินว่าข้าพเจ้าเป็นที่ชัง พระองค์จึงทรงประทานบุตรชายคนนี้ให้แก่ข้าพเจ้าด้วย" นางตั้งชื่อเขาว่า สิเมโอน
33She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, “Because Yahweh has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also.” She named him Simeon.
34นางตั้งครรภ์และคลอดบุตรเป็นชายอีกคนหนึ่ง และกล่าวว่า "ครั้งนี้สามีจะสนิทสนมกับข้าพเจ้า เพราะข้าพเจ้าได้คลอดบุตรเป็นชายสามคนให้เขาแล้ว" เหตุนี้จึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่า เลวี
34She conceived again, and bore a son. Said, “Now this time will my husband be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.
35นางตั้งครรภ์และคลอดบุตรเป็นชายอีกคนหนึ่ง นางกล่าวว่า "ครั้งนี้ข้าพเจ้าจะสรรเสริญพระเยโฮวาห์" เหตุนี้นางจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่า ยูดาห์ ต่อไปนางก็หยุดมีบุตร
35She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “This time will I praise Yahweh.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.
