¹ยาโคบเงยหน้าขึ้นดู และดูเถิด เอซาวกำลังมาพร้อมกับพวกผู้ชายสี่ร้อยคน ยาโคบจึงแบ่งลูกๆให้นางเลอาห์ นางราเชลและสาวใช้ทั้งสอง

¹Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. He divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two handmaids.

²เขาให้สาวใช้ทั้งสองกับลูกอยู่ข้างหน้า ถัดมานางเลอาห์กับลูก ส่วนนางราเชลกับโยเซฟอยู่ท้ายสุด

²He put the handmaids and their children in front, Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph at the rear.

³ตัวเขาเองเดินออกหน้าไปก่อน กราบลงถึงดินเจ็ดหน จนเข้ามาใกล้พี่ชายของเขา

³He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

⁴แต่เอซาววิ่งออกไปต้อนรับเขา กอดและซบหน้าลงที่คอจุบเขา ต่างก็ร้องไห้

⁴Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept.

⁵เอซาวก็เงยหน้าขึ้นแลเห็นพวกผู้หญิงกับลูกๆจึงถามว่า "คนที่อยู่กับเจ้านี้คือใคร" ยาโคบตอบว่า "คือลูกๆที่พระเจ้าโปรดประทานให้แก่ข้าพเจ้าผู้รับใช้ของท่าน"

⁵He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”

⁶แล้วสาวใช้ทั้งสองคนกับลูกๆก็เข้ามาใกล้และกราบลง

⁶Then the handmaids came near with their children, and they bowed themselves.

⁷นางเลอาห์กับลูกของเขาก็เข้ามาใกล้และกราบลงด้วย ภายหลังโยเซฟและนางราเชลก็เข้ามาใกล้และกราบลง

⁷Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

⁸เอซาวถามว่า "ขบวนผู้คนและฝูงสัตว์ทั้งหมดที่เราพบนี้มีความหมายอย่างไร" ยาโคบตอบว่า "เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้รับความกรุณาในสายตาของนายข้าพเจ้า"

⁸Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?” Jacob said, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.”

⁹เอซาวพูดว่า "น้องเอ๋ย ข้ามีพออยู่แล้ว เก็บของๆเจ้าไว้เองเถิด"

⁹Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”

¹⁰ยาโคบตอบว่า "มิได้ ข้าพเจ้าขอร้องท่านเถิด ถ้าข้าพเจ้าได้รับความกรุณาในสายตาของท่านแล้วขอรับของกำนัลนั้นจากมือข้าพเจ้า เพราะเหตุว่าข้าพเจ้าได้เห็นหน้าท่านก็เหมือนเห็นพระพักตร์ของพระเจ้า และท่านได้โปรดข้าพเจ้าแล้ว

¹⁰Jacob said, “Please, no, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me.

¹¹ข้าพเจ้าอ้อนวอน ขอท่านรับของขวัญที่นำมาให้ท่าน เพราะพระเจ้าทรงโปรดกรุณาข้าพเจ้าและข้าพเจ้าก็มีพอเพียงแล้ว" เขาอ้อนวอนและเอซาวจึงรับไว้

¹¹Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.

¹²เอซาวพูดว่า "ให้เราเดินทางไปกันเถิด ให้เราไปกันและข้าจะนำหน้าเจ้า"

¹²Esau said, “Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before you.”

¹³แต่ยาโคบตอบเขาว่า "นายท่านย่อมทราบอยู่แล้วว่าเด็กๆนั้นอ่อนแอ และข้าพเจ้ายังมีฝูงแพะแกะและโคที่มีลูกอ่อนยังกินนมอยู่ ถ้าจะต้อนให้เดินเกินไปสักวันหนึ่งฝูงสัตว์ก็จะตายหมด

¹³Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.

¹⁴ขอนายท่านล่วงหน้าผู้รับใช้ของท่านไปก่อนเถิด ข้าพเจ้าจะตามไปช้าๆตามกำลังของสัตว์ซึ่งอยู่ข้างหน้าข้าพเจ้าและตามที่เด็กๆทนได้ จนกว่าข้าพเจ้าจะไปพบนายท่านที่เสอีร์"

¹⁴Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.”

¹⁵เอซาวจึงกล่าวว่า "บัดนี้ขอให้คนที่มากับเราไปกับเจ้าบ้าง" ยาโคบตอบว่า "มีความจำเป็นอะไรหรือ ขอให้ข้าพเจ้าได้รับความกรุณาในสายตาของนายท่านเถิด"

¹⁵Esau said, “Let me now leave with you some of the folk who are with me.” He said, “Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”

¹⁶ในวันนั้น เอซาวก็กลับไปทางเสอีร์

¹⁶So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.

¹⁷ส่วนยาโคบเดินทางไปถึงสุคคท เขาสร้างบ้านอยู่ที่นั่น และสร้างเพิงให้สัตว์ของเขา ฉะนั้นจึงเรียกที่นั้นว่า สุคคท

¹⁷Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. succoth means shelters or booths.

¹⁸เมื่อยาโคบเดินทางจากปัดดานอารัมก็มาถึงเมืองเชเลมซึ่งเป็นเมืองของเชเคมในแผ่นดินคานาอัน เขาตั้งเต็นท์อยู่หน้าเมืองนั้น

¹⁸Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city.

¹⁹ยาโคบซื้อที่ดินแปลงหนึ่งที่ตั้งเต็นท์อยู่นั้น จากบุตรชายของฮาโมร์บิดาของเชเคมเป็นเงินหนึ่งร้อยเหรียญ

¹⁹He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.

²⁰ยาโคบสร้างแท่นบูชาที่นั่น เรียกแท่นนั้นว่า เอลเอโลเฮอิสราเอล

²⁰He erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel. El Elohe Israel means “God, the God of Israel” or “The God of Israel is mighty.”
