¹ฝ่ายยาโคบมาอยู่ในดินแดนที่บิดาของท่านเคยอาศัยเป็นคนต่างด้าวนั้นคือ แผ่นดินคานาอัน

¹Jacob lived in the land of his father’s travels, in the land of Canaan.

²ต่อไปนี้เป็นประวัติพงศ์พันธุ์ของยาโคบ เมื่อโยเซฟอายุได้สิบเจ็ดปีไปเลี้ยงสัตว์อยู่กับพวกพี่ชาย เด็กหนุ่มนั้นอยู่กับบุตรชายของนางบิลฮาห์และกับบุตรชายของนางศิลปาห์ภรรยาบิดาของตน โยเซฟเอาความผิดของพี่ชายมาเล่าให้บิดาฟัง

²This is the history of the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father’s wives. Joseph brought an evil report of them to their father.

³ฝ่ายอิสราเอลรักโยเซฟมากกว่าบุตรทั้งหมดของท่าน เพราะโยเซฟเป็นบุตรชายที่เกิดมาเมื่อบิดาแก่แล้ว บิดาทำเสื้อยาวหลากสีให้แก่โยเซฟ

³Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age, and he made him a coat of many colors.

⁴เมื่อพวกพี่ชายเห็นว่าบิดารักโยเซฟมากกว่าบรรดาพี่ชาย ก็ชังโยเซฟ และพูดดีกับเขาไม่ได้

⁴His brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, and they hated him, and couldn’t speak peaceably to him.

⁵คราวหนึ่งโยเซฟฝัน แล้วเล่าให้พวกพี่ชายฟัง พวกพี่ชายยิ่งชังโยเซฟมากขึ้น

⁵Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him all the more.

⁶โยเซฟเล่าว่า "ฟังความฝันซึ่งข้าพเจ้าฝันเห็นซิ

⁶He said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed:

⁷ดูเถิด พวกเรากำลังมัดฟ่อนข้าวอยู่ในนา ทันใดนั้น ฟ่อนข้าวของข้าพเจ้าตั้งขึ้นยืนตรง และดูเถิด ฟ่อนข้าวของพวกพี่ๆมาแวดล้อมกราบไหว้ฟ่อนข้าวของข้าพเจ้า"

⁷for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and behold, your sheaves came around, and bowed down to my sheaf.”

⁸พวกพี่ชายจึงถามโยเซฟว่า "เจ้าจะปกครองเรากระนั้นหรือ เจ้าจะมีอำนาจครอบครองเราหรือ" พวกพี่ชายก็ยิ่งชังโยเซฟมากขึ้นอีกเพราะความฝัน และเพราะคำของเขา

⁸His brothers said to him, “Will you indeed reign over us? Or will you indeed have dominion over us?” They hated him all the more for his dreams and for his words.

⁹ต่อมาโยเซฟก็ฝันอีก จึงเล่าให้พวกพี่ชายฟังว่า "ดูเถิด ข้าพเจ้าฝันอีกครั้งหนึ่ง เห็นดวงอาทิตย์ดวงจันทร์ และดาวสิบเอ็ดดวงกำลังกราบไหว้ข้าพเจ้า"

⁹He dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brothers, and said, “Behold, I have dreamed yet another dream: and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars bowed down to me.”

¹⁰เมื่อเล่าให้บิดาและพวกพี่ชายฟัง บิดาก็ว่ากล่าวโยเซฟว่า "ความฝันที่เจ้าได้ฝันเห็นนั้นหมายความว่าอะไร เรากับมารดาและพวกพี่ชายของเจ้าจะมาซบหน้าลงถึงดินกราบไหว้เจ้ากระนั้นหรือ"

¹⁰He told it to his father and to his brothers. His father rebuked him, and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Will I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves down to you to the earth?”

¹¹พวกพี่ชายอิจฉาโยเซฟ บิดาก็นิ่งตรองเรื่องนี้อยู่แต่ในใจ

¹¹His brothers envied him, but his father kept this saying in mind.

¹²ฝ่ายพวกพี่ชายพากันไปเลี้ยงแพะแกะของบิดาที่เมืองเชเคม

¹²His brothers went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.

¹³อิสราเอลจึงพูดกับโยเซฟว่า "พี่ชายของเจ้าเลี้ยงแพะแกะอยู่ที่เมืองเชเคมมิใช่หรือ มาพ่อจะใช้เจ้าไปหาพี่ชาย" โยเซฟตอบว่า "ข้าพเจ้าพร้อมแล้ว"

¹³Israel said to Joseph, “Aren’t your brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, and I will send you to them.” He said to him, “Here I am.”

¹⁴บิดาจึงพูดกับเขาว่า "เราขอร้องเจ้าให้ไปดูพี่ชายของเจ้าและฝูงสัตว์ซิว่า สบายดีหรือไม่ แล้วกลับมาบอกพ่อ" บิดาใช้เขาไปจากที่ราบเฮโบรน เขาก็มายังเมืองเชเคม

¹⁴He said to him, “Go now, see whether it is well with your brothers, and well with the flock; and bring me word again.” So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

¹⁵ดูเถิด ชายคนหนึ่งพบโยเซฟเดินไปเดินมาในท้องนาจึงถามว่า "เจ้าหาอะไร"

¹⁵A certain man found him, and behold, he was wandering in the field. The man asked him, “What are you looking for?”

¹⁶โยเซฟตอบว่า "ข้าพเจ้าหาพี่ชายของข้าพเจ้า โปรดบอกข้าพเจ้าทีว่า เขาเลี้ยงสัตว์อยู่ที่ไหน"

¹⁶He said, “I am looking for my brothers. Tell me, please, where they are feeding the flock.”

¹⁷คนนั้นตอบว่า "เขาไปแล้วเพราะเราได้ยินเขาพูดกันว่า `ให้เราไปเมืองโดธานกันเถิด'" โยเซฟตามไปพบพวกพี่ชายที่เมืองโดธาน

¹⁷The man said, “They have left here, for I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dothan.’” Joseph went after his brothers, and found them in Dothan.

¹⁸เมื่อพวกพี่ชายเห็นโยเซฟแต่ไกลยังมาไม่ถึง เขาก็พากันคิดปองร้ายจะฆ่าเสีย

¹⁸They saw him afar off, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him.

¹⁹เขาพูดกันว่า "ดูเถิด เจ้าช่างฝันมานี่แล้ว

¹⁹They said one to another, “Behold, this dreamer comes.

²⁰บัดนี้ มาเถิด ให้พวกเราฆ่ามันเสีย แล้วทิ้งลงไว้ในบ่อบ่อหนึ่ง เราจะว่า `สัตว์ร้ายกัดกินมันเสีย' แล้วเราจะดูว่าความฝันนั้นจะเป็นจริงได้อย่างไร"

²⁰Come now therefore, and let’s kill him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, ‘An evil animal has devoured him.’ We will see what will become of his dreams.”

²¹ฝ่ายรูเบนพอได้ยินดังนั้น ก็อยากช่วยโยเซฟให้พ้นมือพวกพี่ชายจึงพูดว่า "เราอย่าฆ่ามันเลย"

²¹Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said, “Let’s not take his life.”

²²รูเบนเตือนเขาว่า "อย่าทำให้โลหิตไหล จงทิ้งมันในบ่อนี้ในถิ่นทุรกันดาร อย่าแตะต้องน้องเลย" ทั้งนี้เพื่อจะช่วยน้องให้พ้นมือเขา แล้วจะได้ส่งกลับไปยังบิดา

²²Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand on him”—that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.

²³ต่อมา ครั้นโยเซฟมาถึงพวกพี่ชาย เขาก็จับโยเซฟถอดเสื้อออกเสีย คือเสื้อยาวหลากสีที่สวมอยู่

²³It happened, when Joseph came to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his coat, the coat of many colors that was on him;

²⁴แล้วเอาโยเซฟไปทิ้งลงในบ่อ บ่อนั้นว่างเปล่าไม่มีน้ำ

²⁴and they took him, and threw him into the pit. The pit was empty. There was no water in it.

²⁵ขณะที่นั่งรับประทานอยู่เขาเงยหน้าขึ้น ดูเถิด เห็นหมู่คนอิชมาเอลมาจากเมืองกิเลอาด มีฝูงอูฐบรรทุกยางไม้ พิมเสนและมดยอบเอาเดินทางลงไปยังอียิปต์

²⁵They sat down to eat bread, and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

²⁶ยูดาห์จึงพูดกับพี่น้องว่า "หากเราฆ่าน้องและซ่อนโลหิตไว้จะมีประโยชน์อันใดเล่า

²⁶Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?

²⁷มาเถิด ให้เราขายน้องแก่พวกอิชมาเอลโดยไม่แตะต้องเขา เพราะเขาก็เป็นน้องและเป็นเลือดเนื้อของเราเหมือนกัน" พี่น้องทั้งปวงก็พอใจ

²⁷Come, and let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites, and not let our hand be on him; for he is our brother, our flesh.” His brothers listened to him.

²⁸ขณะนั้นพวกพ่อค้าชาวมีเดียนกำลังผ่านมา พวกพี่ชายก็ฉุดโยเซฟขึ้นจากบ่อ ขายให้แก่คนอิชมาเอลเป็นเงินยี่สิบเหรียญ คนอิชมาเอลก็พาโยเซฟไปยังอียิปต์

²⁸Midianites who were merchants passed by, and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. They brought Joseph into Egypt.

²⁹ฝ่ายรูเบนเมื่อกลับมาถึงบ่อนั้น และดูเถิด โยเซฟมิได้อยู่ในบ่อนั้น จึงฉีกเสื้อผ้าของตน

²⁹Reuben returned to the pit; and saw that Joseph wasn’t in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

³⁰แล้วกลับไปหาพวกน้องบอกว่า "เด็กนั้นหายไปเสียแล้ว แล้วข้าพเจ้าจะไปที่ไหนเล่า"

³⁰He returned to his brothers, and said, “The child is no more; and I, where will I go?”

³¹พวกเขาก็เอาเสื้อของโยเซฟมา และฆ่าลูกแพะผู้ตัวหนึ่ง จุ่มเสื้อของโยเซฟลงในเลือด

³¹They took Joseph’s coat, and killed a male goat, and dipped the coat in the blood.

³²แล้วก็ส่งเสื้อยาวหลากสีนั้นไปยังบิดา บอกว่า "พวกเราได้พบเสื้อตัวนี้ ขอพ่อจงพิจารณาดูว่าใช่เสื้อลูกของพ่อหรือไม่"

³²They took the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father, and said, “We have found this. Examine it, now, whether it is your son’s coat or not.”

³³บิดารู้จักแล้วร้องว่า "นี่เป็นเสื้อลูกเรา สัตว์ร้ายกัดกินเขาเสียแล้ว โยเซฟย่อยยับเสียแล้วเป็นแน่"

³³He recognized it, and said, “It is my son’s coat. An evil animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces.”

³⁴ยาโคบก็ฉีกเสื้อผ้าเอาผ้ากระสอบคาดเอว ไว้ทุกข์ให้บุตรชายหลายวัน

³⁴Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days.

³⁵ฝ่ายบุตรชายหญิงทั้งหมดก็พากันมาปลอบโยนบิดา แต่ท่านไม่ยอมรับการปลอบโยนกล่าวว่า "เราจะโศกเศร้าถึงลูกเราจนกว่าเราจะตามลงไปยังหลุมฝังศพ" บิดาของเขาร้องไห้คิดถึงเขาดังนี้

³⁵All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. He said, “For I will go down to Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. to my son mourning.” His father wept for him.

³⁶แล้วคนมีเดียนก็ขายโยเซฟในอียิปต์ไว้กับโปทิฟาร์ข้าราชสำนักของฟาโรห์ ผู้บัญชาการทหารรักษาพระองค์

³⁶The Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard.
