1การกันดารอาหารในแผ่นดินร้ายแรงยิ่ง
1The famine was severe in the land.
2และต่อมาเมื่อครอบครัวยาโคบกินข้าวที่ได้มาจากประเทศอียิปต์หมดแล้ว บิดาเขาจึงบอกแก่บุตรชายว่า "ไปซื้ออาหารมาอีกหน่อย"
2It happened, when they had eaten up the grain which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little more food.”
3แต่ยูดาห์ตอบบิดาว่า "ท่านกำชับพวกลูกอย่างเด็ดขาดว่า `ถ้าไม่ได้พาน้องชายมาด้วย พวกเจ้าจะไม่เห็นหน้าเราอีก'
3Judah spoke to him, saying, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’
4ถ้าพ่อใช้ให้น้องชายไปกับพวกลูก ลูกจะลงไปซื้ออาหารให้พ่อ
4If you’ll send our brother with us, we’ll go down and buy you food,
5แต่ถ้าแม้พ่อไม่ให้น้องไป พวกลูกจะไม่ลงไป เพราะเจ้านายท่านบัญชาแก่พวกลูกว่า `ถ้าไม่ได้พาน้องชายมาด้วย พวกเจ้าจะไม่เห็นหน้าเราอีก'"
5but if you’ll not send him, we’ll not go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’”
6อิสราเอลจึงว่า "เหตุไฉนเจ้าจึงไปบอกท่านว่ามีน้องชายอีกคนหนึ่ง ทำให้เราได้รับความช้ำใจเช่นนี้"
6Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly, telling the man that you had another brother?”
7เขาจึงตอบว่า "เจ้านายท่านซักไซ้ไต่ถามถึงพวกลูก และญาติพี่น้องของพวกลูกว่า `บิดายังอยู่หรือ เจ้ามีน้องชายอีกหรือเปล่า' พวกลูกก็ตอบตามคำถามนั้น จะล่วงรู้ได้อย่างไรว่าท่านจะสั่งว่า `พาน้องชายของเจ้ามา'"
7They said, “The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down?’”
8ยูดาห์จึงพูดกับอิสราเอลบิดาของเขาว่า "ขอพ่อให้เด็กนั้นไปกับข้าพเจ้า เราจะได้ลุกขึ้นออกเดินทางไปเพื่อจะได้มีชีวิตและไม่ตาย ทั้งพวกลูกและพ่อกับลูกอ่อนทั้งหลายของเราด้วย
8Judah said to Israel, his father, “Send the boy with me, and we’ll get up and go, so that we may live, and not die, both we, and you, and also our little ones.
9ลูกรับประกันน้องคนนี้ พ่อจะเรียกร้องให้ลูกรับผิดชอบได้ ถ้าลูกไม่นำเขากลับมาหาพ่อและส่งเขาต่อหน้าพ่อ ก็ขอให้ลูกรับผิดต่อพ่อตลอดไปเป็นนิตย์
9I’ll be collateral for him. From my hand will you require him. If I don’t bring him to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever,
10ด้วยว่าถ้าพวกลูกไม่ช้าอยู่เช่นนี้ ก็จะได้กลับมาเป็นครั้งที่สองแล้วเป็นแน่"
10for if we hadn’t delayed, surely we would have returned a second time by now.”
11ฝ่ายอิสราเอลบิดาของพวกเขาจึงบอกบุตรชายทั้งหลายว่า "ถ้าอย่างนั้นให้ทำดังนี้ คือเอาผลิตผลอย่างดีที่สุดที่มีในแผ่นดินนี้ คือพิมเสนบ้าง น้ำผึ้งบ้าง ยางไม้และมดยอบ ลูกนัทและลูกอัลมันด์ ใส่ภาชนะไปเป็นของกำนัลแก่ท่าน
11Their father, Israel, said to them, “If it must be so, then do this. Take from the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry down a present for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts, and almonds;
12เอาเงินติดมือเจ้าไปสองเท่า คือเงินที่ติดมาในปากกระสอบของเจ้านั้นก็ให้ติดมือกลับไปด้วย เพราะบางทีเขาเผลอไป
12and take double money in your hand, and take back the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.
13จงพาน้องชายของเจ้าด้วย แล้วลุกขึ้นกลับไปหาท่านนั้นอีก
13Take your brother also, get up, and return to the man.
14ขอพระเจ้าผู้ทรงมหิทธิฤทธิ์โปรดกรุณาพวกเจ้าต่อหน้าท่านนั้น เพื่อท่านจะปล่อยพี่ชายกับเบนยามินกลับมา หากว่าเราจะต้องพลัดพรากจากบุตรไปก็ตามเถิด"
14May God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”
15คนเหล่านั้นก็เอาของกำนัลและเงินสองเท่าติดมือไปพร้อมกับเบนยามิน แล้วลุกขึ้นพากันเดินทางลงไปยังประเทศอียิปต์ และเข้าเฝ้าโยเซฟ
15The men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and got up, went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
16เมื่อโยเซฟเห็นเบนยามินมากับพี่ชาย ท่านจึงสั่งคนต้นเรือนว่า "จงพาคนเหล่านี้เข้าไปในบ้าน ให้ฆ่าสัตว์และจัดโต๊ะไว้ เพราะคนเหล่านี้จะมารับประทานด้วยกันกับเราในเวลาเที่ยง"
16When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, “Bring the men into the house, and butcher an animal, and prepare; for the men will dine with me at noon.”
17คนต้นเรือนก็ทำตามคำโยเซฟสั่ง และพาคนเหล่านั้นเข้าไปในบ้านโยเซฟ
17The man did as Joseph commanded, and the man brought the men to Joseph’s house.
18คนเหล่านั้นก็กลัวเพราะเขาพาเข้าไปในบ้านโยเซฟ จึงพูดกันว่า "เพราะเหตุเงินที่ติดมาในกระสอบของเราครั้งก่อนนั้น เขาจึงพาพวกเรามาที่นี่ เพื่อท่านจะหาเหตุใส่เราจับกุมเรา จับเราเป็นทาส ทั้งจะริบเอาลาด้วย"
18The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”
19พวกเขาเข้าไปหาคนต้นเรือนของโยเซฟ และพูดกับเขาที่ประตูบ้าน
19They came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they spoke to him at the door of the house,
20และกล่าวว่า "นายเจ้าข้า ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายลงมาครั้งก่อนเพื่อซื้ออาหาร
20and said, “Oh, my lord, we indeed came down the first time to buy food.
21และต่อมาครั้นข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายไปถึงที่พัก เราเปิดกระสอบของเราออก และดูเถิด เงินของแต่ละคนก็อยู่ในปากกระสอบของตน เงินนั้นยังอยู่ครบน้ำหนัก ข้าพเจ้าจึงได้นำเงินนั้นติดมือกลับมา
21When we came to the lodging place, we opened our sacks, and behold, each man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight. We have brought it back in our hand.
22ข้าพเจ้าเอาเงินอีกส่วนหนึ่งติดมือมาเพื่อจะซื้ออาหารอีก เงินที่อยู่ในกระสอบของเรานั้นผู้ใดใส่ไว้ข้าพเจ้าไม่ทราบเลย"
22We have brought down other money in our hand to buy food. We don’t know who put our money in our sacks.”
23คนต้นเรือนจึงตอบว่า "จงเป็นสุขเถิด อย่ากลัวเลย พระเจ้าของท่านและพระเจ้าของบิดาท่านบันดาลให้มีทรัพย์อยู่ในกระสอบเพื่อท่าน เงินของท่านนั้นเราได้รับแล้ว" คนต้นเรือนก็พาสิเมโอนออกมาหาเขา
23He said, “Peace be to you. Don’t be afraid. Your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks. I received your money.” He brought Simeon out to them.
24คนต้นเรือนพาคนเหล่านั้นเข้าไปในบ้านของโยเซฟ แล้วเอาน้ำให้เขา เขาก็ล้างเท้าและคนต้นเรือนจัดหญ้าฟางให้ลาเขากิน
24The man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet. He gave their donkeys fodder.
25พวกพี่ชายก็จัดเตรียมของกำนัลไว้คอยท่าโยเซฟซึ่งจะมาในเวลาเที่ยง เพราะเขาได้ยินว่าเขาจะรับประทานอาหารกันที่นั่น
25They prepared the present for Joseph’s coming at noon, for they heard that they should eat bread there.
26เมื่อโยเซฟกลับมาบ้าน เขาก็ยกของกำนัลที่ติดมือนั้นมาให้โยเซฟในบ้านแล้วกราบลงถึงดินต่อท่าน
26When Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves down to him to the earth.
27โยเซฟถามถึงทุกข์สุขของเขาและกล่าวว่า "บิดาของเจ้าผู้ชราที่พวกเจ้ากล่าวถึงครั้งก่อนนั้นสบายดีหรือ บิดายังมีชีวิตอยู่หรือ"
27He asked them of their welfare, and said, “Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he yet alive?”
28เขาตอบว่า "บิดาของข้าพเจ้าผู้รับใช้ของท่านอยู่สบายดี ท่านยังมีชีวิตอยู่" แล้วเขาก็น้อมลงกราบไหว้อีก
28They said, “Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive.” They bowed down humbly.
29โยเซฟเงยหน้าดูเห็นเบนยามินน้องชายมารดาเดียวกัน แล้วถามว่า "คนนี้เป็นน้องชายสุดท้องที่พวกเจ้าบอกแก่เราครั้งก่อนหรือ" โยเซฟกล่าวว่า "ลูกเอ๋ย ขอให้พระเจ้าทรงเมตตาแก่เจ้า"
29He lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin, his brother, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me?” He said, “God be gracious to you, my son.”
30แล้วโยเซฟรีบไป เพราะรักน้องจนกลั้นน้ำตาไว้ไม่ได้ ท่านก็หาที่ที่จะร้องไห้ ท่านจึงเข้าไปในห้องร้องไห้อยู่ที่นั่น
30Joseph hurried, for his heart yearned over his brother; and he sought a place to weep. He entered into his room, and wept there.
31โยเซฟล้างหน้าแล้วกลับออกมาแข็งใจกลั้นน้ำตาสั่งว่า "ยกอาหารมาเถิด"
31He washed his face, and came out. He controlled himself, and said, “Serve the meal.”
32พวกคนใช้ก็ยกส่วนของโยเซฟมาตั้งไว้เฉพาะท่าน ส่วนของพี่น้องก็เฉพาะพี่น้อง ส่วนของคนอียิปต์ที่จะมารับประทานด้วยนั้นก็เฉพาะเขา เพราะคนอียิปต์จะไม่รับประทานอาหารร่วมกับคนฮีบรู ด้วยว่าสิ่งนั้นเป็นสิ่งที่พึงรังเกียจสำหรับคนอียิปต์
32They served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians, that ate with him, by themselves, because the Egyptians don’t eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination to the Egyptians.
33พวกพี่น้องก็นั่งตรงหน้าโยเซฟ เรียงตั้งแต่พี่ใหญ่ผู้มีสิทธิบุตรหัวปี ลงมาจนถึงน้องสุดท้องตามวัย พี่น้องทั้งหลายมองดูตากันด้วยความประหลาดใจ
33They sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth, and the men marveled one with another.
34แล้วโยเซฟก็ส่งของรับประทานให้พี่น้องเหล่านั้นต่อหน้าท่าน แต่ของที่ส่งให้เบนยามินนั้นมากกว่าของพี่ชายถึงห้าเท่า พวกเขาก็กินดื่มกับโยเซฟจนสำราญใจ
34He sent portions to them from before him, but Benjamin’s portion was five times as much as any of theirs. They drank, and were merry with him.
