¹เมื่อยาโคบรู้ว่ามีข้าวในอียิปต์ ยาโคบจึงพูดกับพวกบุตรชายของตนว่า "มานั่งมองดูกันอยู่ทำไมเล่า"

¹Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?”

²ท่านพูดว่า "ดูเถิด เราได้ยินว่ามีข้าวในอียิปต์ ลงไปซื้อข้าวจากที่นั่นมาให้พวกเรา เพื่อพวกเราจะได้มีชีวิตและไม่อดตาย"

²He said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy for us from there, so that we may live, and not die.”

³พี่ชายของโยเซฟสิบคนก็ลงไปซื้อข้าวที่อียิปต์

³Joseph’s ten brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.

⁴แต่เบนยามินน้องชายของโยเซฟนั้นยาโคบไม่ให้ไปกับพวกพี่ชาย ด้วยท่านกล่าวว่า "เกรงว่าอาจจะเกิดอันตรายแก่เขา"

⁴But Jacob didn’t send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, with his brothers; for he said, “Lest perhaps harm happen to him.”

⁵บรรดาบุตรชายของอิสราเอลก็ไปซื้อข้าวพร้อมกับคนทั้งหลายที่ไป เพราะการกันดารอาหารก็เกิดในแผ่นดินคานาอัน

⁵The sons of Israel came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.

⁶ฝ่ายโยเซฟเป็นผู้สำเร็จราชการแผ่นดิน ท่านเป็นผู้ที่ขายข้าวให้แก่บรรดาประชาชนแห่งแผ่นดิน พวกพี่ชายของโยเซฟก็มากราบไหว้ท่าน ก้มหน้าลงถึงดิน

⁶Joseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Joseph’s brothers came, and bowed themselves down to him with their faces to the earth.

⁷โยเซฟเห็นพวกพี่ชายของตนและรู้จักเขาแต่ทำเป็นไม่รู้จักเขา และพูดจาดุดันกับเขา ท่านถามเขาว่า "พวกเจ้ามาจากไหน" เขาตอบว่า "มาจากแผ่นดินคานาอันเพื่อซื้ออาหาร"

⁷Joseph saw his brothers, and he recognized them, but acted like a stranger to them, and spoke roughly with them. He said to them, “Where did you come from?” They said, “From the land of Canaan to buy food.”

⁸โยเซฟรู้จักพวกพี่ชาย แต่พวกพี่หารู้จักท่านไม่

⁸Joseph recognized his brothers, but they didn’t recognize him.

⁹โยเซฟระลึกถึงความฝันที่ท่านเคยฝันถึงพวกพี่ๆ และกล่าวแก่พวกเขาว่า "พวกเจ้าเป็นคนสอดแนม แอบมาดูจุดอ่อนของบ้านเมือง"

⁹Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed about them, and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land.”

¹⁰พวกเขาจึงตอบท่านว่า "นายเจ้าข้า มิใช่เช่นนั้น แต่ข้าพเจ้าผู้รับใช้ของท่านมาซื้ออาหาร

¹⁰They said to him, “No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.

¹¹ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายเป็นบุตรชายร่วมบิดาเดียวกัน เป็นคนสัตย์จริง ผู้รับใช้ของท่านมิใช่คนสอดแนม"

¹¹We are all one man’s sons; we are honest men. Your servants are not spies.”

¹²โยเซฟบอกเขาอีกว่า "มิใช่ แต่พวกเจ้ามาเพื่อดูจุดอ่อนของบ้านเมือง"

¹²He said to them, “No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land!”

¹³พวกพี่จึงตอบว่า "ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายผู้รับใช้ของท่านเป็นพี่น้องสิบสองคน เป็นบุตรชายร่วมบิดาเดียวกันอยู่ในแผ่นดินคานาอัน ดูเถิด วันนี้น้องสุดท้องยังอยู่กับบิดา แต่น้องอีกคนหนึ่งเสียไปแล้ว"

¹³They said, “We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is no more.”

¹⁴โยเซฟตอบเขาว่า "ที่เราว่า `พวกเจ้าเป็นคนสอดแนม' นั้นจริงแน่ๆ

¹⁴Joseph said to them, “It is like I told you, saying, ‘You are spies!’

¹⁵พวกเจ้าจะถูกทดลองดังนี้ โดยพระชนม์ฟาโรห์พวกเจ้าจะไปจากที่นี่ไม่ได้ เว้นแต่น้องชายสุดท้องมาที่นี่

¹⁵By this you shall be tested. By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go out from here, unless your youngest brother comes here.

¹⁶พวกเจ้าต้องอยู่ในคุกก่อน ให้คนหนึ่งในพวกเจ้าไปพาน้องชายมา เพื่อพิสูจน์ถ้อยคำของเจ้าว่าเจ้าพูดจริงหรือไม่ มิฉะนั้นโดยพระชนม์ฟาโรห์ พวกเจ้าเป็นคนสอดแนมแน่"

¹⁶Send one of you, and let him get your brother, and you shall be bound, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you, or else by the life of Pharaoh surely you are spies.”

¹⁷แล้วโยเซฟก็ขังพวกพี่ชายไว้ด้วยกันในคุกสามวัน

¹⁷He put them all together into custody for three days.

¹⁸ในวันที่สามโยเซฟบอกเขาว่า "ทำดังนี้แล้วจะรอดชีวิต เพราะเรายำเกรงพระเจ้า

¹⁸Joseph said to them the third day, “Do this, and live, for I fear God.

¹⁹ถ้าพวกเจ้าเป็นคนสัตย์จริง จงให้คนหนึ่งในพวกเจ้าถูกจำอยู่ที่ห้องเล็กในคุก คนอื่นนำข้าวไปเพื่อบรรเทาการกันดารอาหารที่บ้านของเจ้า

¹⁹If you are honest men, then let one of your brothers be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses.

²⁰แล้วพาน้องชายสุดท้องมาหาเรา ดังนั้นจึงจะเห็นได้ว่าพวกเจ้าพูดจริง แล้วพวกเจ้าจะไม่ตาย" พวกพี่ชายก็ทำดังนั้น

²⁰Bring your youngest brother to me; so will your words be verified, and you won’t die.” They did so.

²¹พวกพี่ชายจึงพูดกันว่า "ที่จริงเรามีความผิดเรื่องน้องชายเรา เพราะเราได้เห็นความทุกข์ใจของน้องเมื่อเขาอ้อนวอนเราแต่แล้วมิได้ฟัง เพราะฉะนั้นความทุกข์ใจทั้งนี้จึงบังเกิดแก่เรา"

²¹They said one to another, “We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”

²²ฝ่ายรูเบนพูดกับน้องทั้งหลายว่า "ข้าห้ามเจ้าแล้วมิใช่หรือว่า `อย่าทำบาปผิดต่อเด็กนั้น' แต่พวกเจ้าไม่ฟัง เหตุฉะนั้น ดูเถิด การพิพากษาเรื่องโลหิตของน้องจึงมาถึง"

²²Reuben answered them, saying, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”

²³พวกพี่ชายไม่รู้ว่าโยเซฟฟังออก เพราะว่าท่านพูดกับเขาโดยใช้ล่าม

²³They didn’t know that Joseph understood them; for there was an interpreter between them.

²⁴โยเซฟก็หันไปจากเขาและร้องไห้ แล้วกลับมาพูดกับเขาอีก และเอาสิเมโอนออกมามัดไว้ต่อหน้าต่อตาพวกเขา

²⁴He turned himself away from them, and wept. Then he returned to them, and spoke to them, and took Simeon from among them, and bound him before their eyes.

²⁵แล้วโยเซฟบัญชาให้ใส่ข้าวในถุงของพี่ชายให้เต็มและใส่เงินของแต่ละคนไว้ในกระสอบของทุกคน และให้เสบียงไปกินกลางทาง ท่านก็ทำต่อเขาดังนี้

²⁵Then Joseph gave a command to fill their bags with grain, and to restore each man’s money into his sack, and to give them food for the way. So it was done to them.

²⁶พวกเขาบรรทุกข้าวใส่หลังลาแล้วก็ออกเดินทางไป

²⁶They loaded their donkeys with their grain, and departed from there.

²⁷ครั้นคนหนึ่งเปิดกระสอบออกจะเอาข้าวให้ลากิน ณ ที่หยุดพัก ดูเถิด เขาก็เห็นเงินของเขาอยู่ที่ปากกระสอบนั้น

²⁷As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.

²⁸ผู้นั้นจึงบอกแก่พี่น้องว่า "เงินของข้าพเจ้ากลับคืนมา ดูเถิด เงินนั้นอยู่ที่ปากกระสอบของข้าพเจ้า" พี่น้องตกใจกลัวจนตัวสั่น พูดกันว่า "ที่พระเจ้าทรงกระทำดังนี้แก่เราจะเป็นอย่างไรหนอ"

²⁸He said to his brothers, “My money is restored! Behold, it is in my sack!” Their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling one to another, saying, “What is this that God has done to us?”

²⁹เขาก็กลับไปหายาโคบบิดาของเขาในแผ่นดินคานาอัน แล้วเล่าเรื่องทั้งหมดที่เกิดขึ้นแก่ตนให้บิดาฟังว่า

²⁹They came to Jacob their father, to the land of Canaan, and told him all that had happened to them, saying,

³⁰"ท่านผู้นั้นที่เป็นเจ้านายของประเทศพูดจาดุดันกับพวกข้าพเจ้า เหมาเอาว่าพวกข้าพเจ้าเป็นผู้สอดแนมดูบ้านเมือง

³⁰“The man, the lord of the land, spoke roughly with us, and took us for spies of the country.

³¹พวกข้าพเจ้าเรียนท่านว่า `ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายเป็นคนสัตย์จริง หาได้เป็นคนสอดแนมไม่

³¹We said to him, ‘We are honest men. We are no spies.

³²ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายเป็นบุตรชายร่วมบิดาเดียวกัน มีพี่น้องสิบสองคน น้องคนหนึ่งเสียไปแล้ว น้องสุดท้องยังอยู่กับบิดาในแผ่นดินคานาอัน'

³²We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no more, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.’

³³แล้วท่านผู้เป็นเจ้านายของประเทศนั้นตอบแก่เราว่า `เพื่อเราจะรู้ว่าพวกเจ้าเป็นคนสัตย์จริง คือให้คนหนึ่งในพวกพี่น้องอยู่กับเรา พวกเจ้าเอาข้าวไปเพื่อบรรเทาการกันดารอาหารที่บ้านของเจ้า แล้วออกเดินทางไปเถิด

³³The man, the lord of the land, said to us, ‘By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your brothers with me, and take grain for the famine of your houses, and go your way.

³⁴แล้วจงพาน้องชายสุดท้องมาหาเรา เราจึงจะรู้แน่ว่าพวกเจ้ามิได้เป็นคนสอดแนม แต่เป็นคนสัตย์จริง แล้วเราจะปล่อยพี่ชายไป พวกเจ้ายังจะได้ค้าขายในประเทศนี้'"

³⁴Bring your youngest brother to me. Then I will know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. So I will deliver your brother to you, and you shall trade in the land.’”

³⁵และต่อมาครั้นพวกเขาแก้กระสอบข้าวออก ดูเถิด เห็นห่อเงินของแต่ละคนอยู่ในกระสอบของตน เมื่อเวลาพวกเขากับบิดาเห็นห่อเงินดังนั้นก็กลัว

³⁵It happened as they emptied their sacks, that behold, each man’s bundle of money was in his sack. When they and their father saw their bundles of money, they were afraid.

³⁶ฝ่ายยาโคบบิดาของเขาจึงว่า "พวกเจ้าทำให้เราพลัดพรากจากลูกของเรา โยเซฟก็เสียไปแล้ว สิเมโอนก็เสียไปแล้ว แล้วพวกเจ้ายังจะเอาเบนยามินไปอีกคน สิ่งเหล่านี้ทั้งหมดทำให้เรามีความทุกข์"

³⁶Jacob, their father, said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me.”

³⁷รูเบนจึงบอกบิดาของตนว่า "ถ้าลูกไม่พาเบนยามินกลับมาให้พ่อ พ่อจงเอาบุตรชายทั้งสองคนของลูกฆ่าเสีย จงมอบเบนยามินไว้ในความดูแลของลูกเถิด แล้วลูกจะนำเขากลับมาหาพ่ออีก"

³⁷Reuben spoke to his father, saying, “Kill my two sons, if I don’t bring him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him to you again.”

³⁸ยาโคบบอกว่า "ลูกของเราจะไม่ลงไปกับเจ้า เพราะพี่ชายของเขาก็ตายเสียแล้ว เหลือแต่เบนยามินคนเดียว ถ้าเกิดอันตรายแก่เขาในเวลาเดินทางไปกับเจ้า เจ้าจะพาผมหงอกของเราลงสู่หลุมฝังศพด้วยความทุกข์"

³⁸He said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. .”
