¹เหตุฉะนั้นให้เราละประถมโอวาทของพระคริสต์ไว้ และให้เราก้าวหน้าไปถึงความบริบูรณ์ อย่าเอาสิ่งเหล่านี้มาวางเป็นรากอีกเลย คือการกลับใจเสียใหม่จากการประพฤติที่ตายแล้ว และความเชื่อในพระเจ้า

¹Therefore leaving the teaching of the first principles of Christ, let us press on to perfection—not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God,

²และคำสอนว่าด้วยพิธีบัพติศมา และการวางมือ และการเป็นขึ้นมาจากตาย และการพิพากษาลงโทษเป็นนิตย์นั้น

²of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

³ถ้าพระเจ้าจะทรงโปรดอนุญาต เราก็จะกระทำอย่างนี้ได้

³This will we do, if God permits.

⁴เพราะว่าคนเหล่านั้นที่ได้รับความสว่างมาครั้งหนึ่งแล้ว และได้รู้รสของประทานจากสวรรค์ ได้มีส่วนในพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์

⁴For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

⁵และได้ชิมความดีงามแห่งพระวจนะของพระเจ้า และฤทธิ์เดชแห่งยุคที่จะมานั้น

⁵and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come,

⁶ถ้าเขาเหล่านั้นจะหลงอยู่อย่างนี้ ก็เหลือวิสัยที่จะให้เขากลับใจเสียใหม่อีกได้ เพราะตัวเขาเองได้ตรึงพระบุตรของพระเจ้าเสียอีกแล้ว และได้ทำให้พระองค์ขายหน้าต่อธารกำนัล

⁶and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify the Son of God for themselves again, and put him to open shame.

⁷ด้วยว่าพื้นแผ่นดินที่ได้ดูดดื่มน้ำฝนที่ตกลงมาเนืองๆและงอกขึ้นมาเป็นต้นผักให้ประโยชน์แก่คนทั้งหลายที่ได้พรวนดินด้วยนั้น ก็รับพระพรมาจากพระเจ้า

⁷For the land which has drunk the rain that comes often on it, and brings forth a crop suitable for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receives blessing from God;

⁸แต่ดินที่งอกหนามใหญ่และหนามย่อยก็ถูกทอดทิ้ง และเกือบจะถึงที่สาปแช่งแล้ว ซึ่งในที่สุดก็จะถูกเผาไฟเสีย

⁸but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

⁹แต่ดูก่อนพวกที่รัก แม้เราพูดอย่างนั้น เราก็เชื่อแน่ว่าท่านทั้งหลายคงจะได้สิ่งที่ดีกว่านั้น และสิ่งซึ่งเกี่ยวกับความรอด

⁹But, beloved, we are persuaded of better things for you, and things that accompany salvation, even though we speak like this.

¹⁰เพราะว่าพระเจ้าไม่ทรงอธรรมที่จะทรงลืมการงานและการทำงานหนักด้วยความรักซึ่งท่านได้แสดงต่อพระนามของพระองค์ คือการรับใช้วิสุทธิชนนั้นและยังรับใช้อยู่

¹⁰For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.

¹¹และเราปรารถนาให้ท่านทั้งหลายทุกคนแสดงความตั้งใจจริงให้ถึงความมั่นใจอย่างเต็มที่แห่งความหวังนั้นจนถึงที่สุดปลาย

¹¹We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end,

¹²เพื่อท่านจะไม่เป็นคนเฉื่อยช้า แต่ให้ตามเยี่ยงอย่างแห่งคนเหล่านั้นที่อาศัยความเชื่อและความเพียร จึงได้รับตามพระสัญญาเป็นมรดก

¹²that you won’t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherited the promises.

¹³เพราะว่าเมื่อพระเจ้าได้ทรงทำพระสัญญาไว้กับอับราฮัมนั้น โดยเหตุที่ไม่มีใครเป็นใหญ่กว่าพระองค์ที่พระองค์จะทรงให้คำปฏิญาณได้นั้น พระองค์ก็ได้ทรงให้คำปฏิญาณแก่พระองค์เอง

¹³For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he swore by himself,

¹⁴คือตรัสว่า `เราจะอวยพรท่านแน่ เราจะทวีเชื้อสายของท่านให้มากขึ้น'

¹⁴saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” Genesis 22:17

¹⁵เช่นนั้นแหละ เมื่ออับราฮัมได้ทนคอยด้วยความเพียรแล้ว ท่านก็ได้รับตามพระสัญญานั้น

¹⁵Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

¹⁶ส่วนมนุษย์นั้นต้องปฏิญาณต่อหน้าผู้ที่เป็นใหญ่กว่าตน และเมื่อเกิดข้อทุ่มเถียงอะไรกันขึ้น ก็ต้องถือคำปฏิญาณนั้นเป็นคำยืนยันขั้นเด็ดขาด

¹⁶For men indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

¹⁷ฝ่ายพระเจ้าเมื่อพระองค์ทรงหมายพระทัยจะสำแดงให้ผู้ที่รับคำทรงสัญญานั้นเป็นมรดกรู้ให้แน่ใจยิ่งขึ้นว่า พระดำริของพระองค์จะแปรปรวนไม่ได้ พระองค์จึงได้ทรงให้คำปฏิญาณไว้ด้วย

¹⁷In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;

¹⁸เพื่อด้วยสองประการนั้นที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไม่ได้ ในที่ซึ่งพระองค์จะตรัสมุสาไม่ได้นั้น เราซึ่งได้หนีมาหาที่ลี้ภัยนั้นจึงจะได้รับการหนุนน้ำใจอย่างจริงจัง ที่จะฉวยเอาความหวังซึ่งมีอยู่ตรงหน้าเรา

¹⁸that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.

¹⁹ความหวังนั้นเรายึดไว้ต่างสมอของจิตวิญญาณ เป็นความหวังทั้งแน่และมั่นคง และได้ทอดไว้ภายในม่าน

¹⁹This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil;

²⁰ที่ผู้นำหน้าได้เสด็จเข้าไปเผื่อเราแล้ว คือพระเยซูผู้ทรงได้รับการแต่งตั้งเป็นมหาปุโรหิตเป็นนิตย์ตามอย่างเมลคีเซเดค

²⁰where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
