³knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

⁴และจงให้ความเพียรนั้นกระทำการจนสำเร็จ เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะได้เป็นผู้สำเร็จครบถ้วนไม่ขาดสิ่งใดเลย

⁴Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

⁵ถ้าผู้ใดในพวกท่านขาดสติปัญญา ก็ให้ผู้นั้นทูลขอจากพระเจ้า ผู้ทรงโปรดประทานให้แก่คนทั้งปวงด้วยเต็มพระทัยและมิได้ทรงติว่า แล้วก็จะได้ทรงประทานให้แก่ผู้นั้น

⁵But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

⁶แต่จงให้ผู้นั้นทูลขอด้วยความเชื่อ อย่าสงสัยเลย เพราะว่าผู้ที่สงสัยเป็นเหมือนคลื่นในทะเลซึ่งถูกลมพัดซัดไปมา

⁶But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

⁷ผู้นั้นจงอย่าคิดว่าจะได้รับสิ่งใดจากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเลย

⁷For let that man not think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

⁸คนสองใจเป็นคนไม่มั่นคงในบรรดาทางทั้งหลายที่ตนประพฤตินั้น

⁸He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

⁹ให้พี่น้องที่ต่ำต้อยชื่นชมยินดีในการที่ทรงเชิดชูเขา

⁹But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

¹⁰และคนมั่งมีก็จงชื่นชมยินดีเมื่อตกต่ำลง เพราะว่าเขาจะต้องล่วงลับไปดุจดอกหญ้า

¹⁰and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

¹¹เพราะเมื่อตะวันขึ้น ความร้อนอันแรงกล้าก็กระทำให้หญ้าเหี่ยวแห้งไป และดอกหญ้าก็ร่วงลง และความงามของมันสูญสิ้นไป คนมั่งมีจะเสื่อมสูญไปตามทางทั้งหลายของเขาเช่นนั้นด้วย

¹¹For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in his pursuits.

¹²ความสุขย่อมมีแก่คนนั้นที่สู้ทนการทดลอง เพราะเมื่อปรากฏว่าผู้นั้นทนได้แล้ว เขาจะได้รับมงกุฎแห่งชีวิต ซึ่งองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงสัญญาไว้แก่คนทั้งหลายที่รักพระองค์

¹²Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.

¹³เมื่อผู้ใดถูกล่อลวงให้หลง อย่าให้ผู้นั้นพูดว่า "พระเจ้าทรงล่อลวงข้าพเจ้าให้หลง" เพราะว่าความชั่วจะมาล่อลวงพระเจ้าให้หลงไม่ได้ และพระองค์เองก็ไม่ทรงล่อลวงผู้ใดให้หลงเลย

¹³Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

¹⁴แต่ว่าทุกคนก็ถูกล่อลวง เมื่อตัณหาของตัวชักนำตนให้กระทำผิดแล้วตัวก็กระทำตาม

¹⁴But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

¹⁵ครั้นตัณหาเกิดขึ้นแล้ว ก็ทำให้เกิดบาป และเมื่อบาปเจริญเต็มที่แล้ว ก็นำไปสู่ความตาย

¹⁵Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

¹⁶พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า อย่าหลงผิดไปเลย

¹⁶Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.

¹⁷ของประทานอันดีทุกอย่าง และของประทานอันเลิศทุกอย่างย่อมมาจากเบื้องบน และส่งลงมาจากพระบิดาแห่งบรรดาดวงสว่าง ในพระบิดาไม่มีการแปรปรวน หรือไม่มีเงาอันเนื่องจากการเปลี่ยนแปลง

¹⁷Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

¹⁸โดยทรงตั้งพระทัยแล้ว พระองค์ก็ได้ทรงให้เราทั้งหลายบังเกิดโดยพระวจนะแห่งความจริง เพื่อเราทั้งหลายจะได้เป็นอย่างผลแรกแห่งสรรพสิ่งซึ่งพระองค์ทรงสร้างนั้น

¹⁸Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

¹⁹ดังนั้น พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า จงให้ทุกคนไวในการฟัง ช้าในการพูด ช้าในการโกรธ

¹⁹So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

²⁰เพราะว่าความโกรธของมนุษย์ไม่ได้กระทำให้เกิดความชอบธรรมแห่งพระเจ้า

²⁰for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

²¹เหตุฉะนั้น จงถอดทิ้งการโสโครกทุกอย่าง และการชั่วร้ายอันดกดื่น และจงน้อมใจรับพระวจนะที่ทรงปลูกฝังไว้แล้วนั้น ซึ่งสามารถช่วยจิตวิญญาณของท่านทั้งหลายให้รอดได้

²¹Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls or, preserve your life. .

²²แต่ท่านทั้งหลายจงเป็นคนที่ประพฤติตามพระวจนะนั้น ไม่ใช่เป็นแต่เพียงผู้ฟังเท่านั้น ซึ่งเป็นการล่อลวงตนเอง

²²But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

²³เพราะว่าถ้าผู้ใดฟังพระวจนะ และไม่ได้ประพฤติตาม ผู้นั้นก็เป็นเหมือนคนที่ดูหน้าของตัวในกระจกเงา

²³For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

²⁴ด้วยว่าคนนั้นแลดูตัวเองแล้วไปเสีย และประเดี๋ยวก็ลืมว่าตัวเป็นอย่างไร

²⁴for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

²⁵ฝ่ายผู้ใดที่พิจารณาดูในพระราชบัญญัติแห่งเสรีภาพอันดีเลิศ และจะตั้งอยู่ในพระราชบัญญัตินั้น ผู้นั้นไม่ได้เป็นผู้ฟังแล้วหลงลืม แต่เป็นคนประพฤติตาม คนนั้นจะได้ความสุขในการของตน

²⁵But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

²⁶ถ้าผู้ใดในพวกท่านดูเหมือนว่าเกรงกลัวพระเจ้า และมิได้เหนี่ยวรั้งลิ้นของตนไว้ แต่หลอกลวงใจของตัว การนมัสการของผู้นั้นก็ไร้ประโยชน์

²⁶If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

²⁷การนมัสการที่บริสุทธิ์ไร้มลทินต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้าและพระบิดานั้น คือการเยี่ยมเยียนเด็กกำพร้าพ่อและหญิงม่ายที่มีความทุกข์ร้อน และการรักษาตัวให้พ้นจากราคีของโลก

²⁷Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
