¹พี่น้องทั้งหลายของข้าพเจ้า การเชื่อในพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา ผู้ทรงสง่าราศีนั้น อย่าให้เป็นด้วยการเลือกหน้าคน

¹My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality.

²เพราะว่าถ้ามีคนหนึ่งสวมแหวนทองคำและแต่งตัวดีเข้ามาในที่ประชุมของท่าน และมีคนจนคนหนึ่งแต่งตัวซอมซ่อเข้ามาด้วย

²For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue or, meeting , and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in;

³และท่านสนใจคนที่แต่งตัวด้วยเสื้อผ้าอย่างดี และกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "เชิญท่านนั่งที่นี่ในที่อันดีเถิด" และท่านก็พูดกับคนจนนั้นว่า "แกจงยืนอยู่ที่นั่น" หรือ "จงนั่งแทบที่รองเท้าของเราเถิด"

³and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say, “Sit here in a good place”; and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”;

⁴พวกท่านเองมิแบ่งชั้นวรรณะ และกลายเป็นผู้วินิจฉัยด้วยใจชั่วหรือ

⁴haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

⁵พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า จงฟังเถิด พระเจ้าทรงเลือกคนยากจนในโลกนี้ให้เป็นคนมั่งมีในความเชื่อ และให้เป็นผู้รับมรดกแห่งอาณาจักร ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงสัญญาไว้แก่ผู้ที่รักพระองค์มิใช่หรือ

⁵Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

⁶แต่ท่านทั้งหลายได้ดูถูกคนจน ไม่ใช่คนมั่งมีหรือที่กดขี่ท่านและลากตัวท่านไปขึ้นศาล

⁶But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?

⁷ไม่ใช่เขาเหล่านั้นหรือที่สบประมาทพระนามอันประเสริฐซึ่งใช้เรียกท่าน

⁷Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?

⁸ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายดำรงตนตามพระราชบัญญัติอันดีเลิศตามพระคัมภีร์ที่ว่า `จงรักเพื่อนบ้านเหมือนรักตนเอง' แล้ว ท่านทั้งหลายก็ประพฤติดีอยู่

⁸However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” Leviticus 19:18 you do well.

⁹แต่ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายเลือกหน้าคน ท่านก็กระทำบาป เพราะตามพระราชบัญญัติ ท่านก็เป็นผู้ละเมิดแล้ว

⁹But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

¹⁰เพราะว่าผู้ใดรักษาพระราชบัญญัติได้ทั้งหมด แต่ผิดอยู่ข้อเดียว ผู้นั้นก็เป็นผู้ผิดพระราชบัญญัติทั้งหมด

¹⁰For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

¹¹ด้วยว่าพระองค์ผู้ได้ตรัสว่า `อย่าล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขา' ก็ได้ตรัสไว้ด้วยว่า `อย่ากระทำการฆาตกรรม' แม้ท่านไม่ได้ล่วงประเวณีแต่ได้กระทำการฆาตกรรม ท่านก็เป็นผู้ละเมิดพระราชบัญญัติ

¹¹For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” Exodus 20:14; Deuteronomy 5:18 also said, “Do not commit murder.” Exodus 10:13; Deuteronomy 5:17 Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

¹²ท่านทั้งหลายจงพูดและจงกระทำเช่นผู้ที่จะได้รับการพิพากษาด้วยพระราชบัญญัติแห่งเสรีภาพ

¹²So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom.

¹³เพราะว่าการพิพากษาย่อมไม่กรุณาต่อผู้ที่ไม่แสดงความกรุณา แต่ความกรุณาย่อมมีชัยเหนือการพิพากษา

¹³For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹⁴พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า แม้ผู้ใดจะว่าตนมีความเชื่อ แต่ไม่ประพฤติตาม จะได้ประโยชน์อะไร ความเชื่อจะช่วยผู้นั้นให้รอดได้หรือ

¹⁴What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?

¹⁵ถ้าพี่น้องชายหญิงคนใดเปลือยเปล่าอยู่และขัดสนอาหารประจำวัน

¹⁵And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,

¹⁶และมีคนใดในพวกท่านกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "เชิญไปเป็นสุขเถิด ขอให้อบอุ่นและอิ่มเถิด" และไม่ได้ให้สิ่งซึ่งจำเป็นสำหรับร่างกายแก่เขา จะเป็นประโยชน์อะไรเล่า

¹⁶and one of you tells them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled”; and yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?

¹⁷ความเชื่อก็เช่นเดียวกัน ถ้าปราศจากการประพฤติ ก็ตายอยู่ในตัวเองแล้ว

¹⁷Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.

¹⁸แต่คงมีผู้ค้านว่า "ท่านมีความเชื่อ และข้าพเจ้ามีการประพฤติ" จงแสดงความเชื่อของท่านที่ปราศจากการประพฤติให้ข้าพเจ้าเห็น และข้าพเจ้าจะแสดงให้ท่านเห็นความเชื่อของข้าพเจ้าโดยการประพฤติของข้าพเจ้า

¹⁸Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

¹⁹ท่านเชื่อว่ามีพระเจ้าองค์เดียว นั่นก็ดีอยู่แล้ว แม้พวกปิศาจก็เชื่อเช่นกัน และกลัวจนตัวสั่น

¹⁹You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.

²⁰โอ คนไร้ค่า ท่านต้องการให้พิสูจน์หรือว่า ความเชื่อที่ปราศจากการประพฤติก็ตายแล้ว

²⁰But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?

²¹เมื่ออับราฮัมบิดาของเราได้ถวายอิศอัคบุตรชายของท่านบนแท่นบูชา จึงได้ความชอบธรรมโดยการประพฤติไม่ใช่หรือ

²¹Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?

²²ท่านทั้งหลายคงเห็นแล้วว่า ความเชื่อได้รวมกันกับการประพฤติของท่าน และความเชื่อนั้นก็ถึงที่สำเร็จโดยการประพฤติ

²²You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected;

²³และพระคัมภีร์ก็สำเร็จที่ว่า `อับราฮัมได้เชื่อพระเจ้า และพระองค์ทรงนับว่าเป็นความชอบธรรมแก่ท่าน' และท่านได้ชื่อว่า เป็น `สหายของพระเจ้า'

²³and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness”; Genesis 15:6 and he was called the friend of God.

²⁴ท่านทั้งหลายก็เห็นแล้วว่า ผู้ใดจะเป็นคนชอบธรรมได้ ก็เนื่องด้วยการประพฤติ และมิใช่ด้วยความเชื่อเพียงอย่างเดียว

²⁴You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith.

²⁵เช่นเดียวกันราหับหญิงแพศยาก็ได้ความชอบธรรมเนื่องด้วยการประพฤติด้วยมิใช่หรือ เมื่อนางได้รับรองผู้ส่งข่าวเหล่านั้น และส่งเขาไปเสียทางอื่น

²⁵In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

²⁶เพราะกายที่ปราศจากจิตวิญญาณนั้นตายแล้วฉันใด ความเชื่อที่ปราศจากการประพฤติตามก็ตายแล้วด้วยฉันนั้น

²⁶For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
