¹"ข้าได้กระทำพันธสัญญากับนัยน์ตาของข้า แล้วข้าจะมองหญิงพรหมจารีได้อย่างไร

¹“I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?

²อะไรจะเป็นส่วนของข้าจากพระเจ้าเบื้องบน และเป็นมรดกของข้าจากองค์ผู้ทรงมหิทธิฤทธิ์ ณ ที่สูง

²For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from the Almighty on high?

³มิใช่ภยันตรายสำหรับคนชั่ว และภัยพิบัติสำหรับคนที่กระทำความชั่วช้าดอกหรือ

³Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?

⁴พระองค์มิทรงเห็นทางที่ข้าไป และนับฝีก้าวของข้าดอกหรือ

⁴Doesn’t he see my ways, and number all my steps?

⁵ถ้าข้าได้ดำเนินไปกับความไร้สาระ และเท้าของข้าเร่งไปสู่ความหลอกลวง

⁵“If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit

⁶ก็ขอให้เอาข้าชั่งด้วยตราชูเที่ยงตรง และขอพระเจ้าทรงทราบความซื่อสัตย์ของข้า

⁶(let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);

⁷ถ้าย่างเท้าของข้าหันออกไปจากทาง และจิตใจของข้าไปตามนัยน์ตาของข้า และถ้าด่างพร้อยใดๆเกาะติดมือข้า

⁷if my step has turned out of the way, if my heart walked after my eyes, if any defilement has stuck to my hands,

⁸ก็ขอให้ข้าหว่าน และให้คนอื่นกิน และขอให้สิ่งที่งอกขึ้นเพื่อข้าถูกถอนรากเอาไป

⁸then let me sow, and let another eat. Yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out.

⁹ถ้าใจของข้าถูกล่อชวนไปหาผู้หญิง และข้าได้ซุ่มอยู่ที่ประตูเพื่อนบ้านของข้า

⁹“If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbor’s door,

¹⁰แล้วก็ขอให้ภรรยาของข้าโม่แป้งให้คนอื่น และให้คนอื่นโน้มทับนาง

¹⁰then let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her.

¹¹เพราะนั่นเป็นความผิดที่ร้ายกาจ และเป็นความชั่วช้าที่ผู้พิพากษาต้องปรับโทษ

¹¹For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges:

¹²เพราะนั่นจะเป็นไฟผลาญให้ไปถึงแดนพินาศ และจะถอนรากผลเพิ่มพูนทั้งปวงของข้า

¹²For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase.

¹³ถ้าข้าดูถูกเรื่องของทาสหรือทาสหญิงของข้า เมื่อเขานำมาร้องทุกข์ต่อข้า

¹³“If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me;

¹⁴เมื่อพระเจ้าทรงลุกขึ้น แล้วข้าจะทำอะไรได้ เมื่อพระองค์ทรงสอบถาม ข้าจะทูลตอบพระองค์อย่างไร

¹⁴What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him?

¹⁵พระองค์ผู้ทรงสร้างข้าในครรภ์ มิได้ทรงสร้างเขาหรือ มิใช่พระองค์องค์เดียวเท่านั้นหรือ ที่ทรงสร้างเราทั้งสองในครรภ์

¹⁵Didn’t he who made me in the womb make him? Didn’t one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁶ถ้าข้าได้หน่วงเหนี่ยวสิ่งใดๆที่คนยากจนอยากได้ หรือได้กระทำให้นัยน์ตาของหญิงม่ายมองเสียเปล่า

¹⁶“If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

¹⁷หรือข้ารับประทานอาหารของข้าแต่ลำพัง และคนกำพร้าพ่อไม่ได้ร่วมรับประทานอาหารนั้นด้วย

¹⁷or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it

¹⁸(เพราะตั้งแต่เด็กมา เขาเติบโตขึ้นกับข้า อย่างอยู่กับพ่อ และข้าได้เป็นผู้แนะนำเธอตั้งแต่ครรภ์มารดาของข้า)

¹⁸(no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, her have I guided from my mother’s womb);

¹⁹ถ้าข้าเห็นคนหนึ่งคนใดพินาศเพราะขาดเสื้อผ้า หรือเห็นคนขัดสนไม่มีผ้าคลุมกาย

¹⁹if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;

²⁰ถ้าบั้นเอวของเขามิได้อวยพรแก่ข้า และถ้าเขามิได้อบอุ่นด้วยขนแกะของข้า

²⁰if his heart hasn’t blessed me, if he hasn’t been warmed with my sheep’s fleece;

²¹ถ้าข้ายกมือขึ้นแตะต้องคนกำพร้าพ่อเพราะข้าเห็นความสนับสนุนที่ประตูเมือง

²¹if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,

²²แล้วก็ให้กระดูกไหปลาร้าหลุดจากบ่าของข้า และให้แขนของข้าหักหลุดจากข้อต่อเสียเถิด

²²then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.

²³เพราะข้าสยดสยองด้วยภัยพิบัติที่มาจากพระเจ้า และด้วยเหตุความโอ่อ่าตระการของพระองค์ ข้าทำอะไรไม่ได้

²³For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because his majesty, I can do nothing.

²⁴ถ้าข้ากระทำให้ทองคำเป็นที่ไว้ใจหรือพูดกับทองคำเนื้อดีว่า `ท่านเป็นที่วางใจของข้า'

²⁴“If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, ‘You are my confidence;’

²⁵ถ้าข้าเปรมปรีดิ์เพราะสมบัติของข้ามากมาย หรือเพราะมือของข้าได้มามาก

²⁵If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

²⁶หรือข้าเพ่งดวงอาทิตย์เมื่อส่องแสง หรือดวงจันทร์เมื่อเคลื่อนไปอย่างสง่า

²⁶if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor,

²⁷และจิตใจของข้าถูกล่อชวนอยู่อย่างลับๆ และปากของข้าจุบมือของข้า

²⁷and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,

²⁸นี่เป็นความชั่วช้าด้วยที่ผู้พิพากษาจะต้องปรับโทษ เพราะข้าคงต้องปฏิเสธพระเจ้าเบื้องบน

²⁸this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have denied the God who is above.

²⁹ถ้าข้าเปรมปรีดิ์เมื่อผู้ที่เกลียดชังข้านั้นพินาศ หรือลิงโลดเมื่อเหตุร้ายมาทันเขา

²⁹“If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him;

³⁰ข้าไม่ยอมให้ปากของข้าบาปไปโดยขอชีวิตของเขาด้วยคำสาปแช่ง

³⁰(yes, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);

³¹ถ้าคนแห่งเต็นท์ของข้ามิได้กล่าวว่า `ยังมีใครที่ไหนที่กินเนื้อของนายไม่อิ่ม'

³¹if the men of my tent have not said, ‘Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?’

³²คนต่างถิ่นมิได้พักอยู่ในถนน ข้าเปิดประตูให้แก่คนเดินทาง

³²(the foreigner has not lodged in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);

³³ถ้าข้าปิดบังการละเมิดของข้าอย่างอาดัม ด้วยซ่อนความชั่วช้าของข้าไว้ในอกของข้า

³³if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,

³⁴เพราะข้ากลัวมวลชนและกลัวที่ครอบครัวต่างๆจะเหยียดหยามข้า ข้าจึงนิ่งเสีย ไม่ออกไปพ้นประตูบ้าน

³⁴because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and didn’t go out of the door—

³⁵โอ ข้าอยากให้สักคนหนึ่งฟังข้า ดูเถิด ความปรารถนาของข้าคือ ขอองค์ผู้ทรงมหิทธิฤทธิ์ตอบข้า โอ ข้าอยากได้คำสำนวนฟ้องข้าซึ่งคู่ความเขียนขึ้น

³⁵oh that I had one to hear me! (behold, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me); let the accuser write my indictment!

³⁶ข้าจะใส่บ่าแบกไปแน่ทีเดียว ข้าจะมัดมันไว้ต่างมงกุฎ

³⁶Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; and I would bind it to me as a crown.

³⁷ข้าจะแจ้งจำนวนฝีก้าวของข้าแก่พระองค์ ข้าจะเข้าไปเฝ้าพระองค์อย่างเป็นเจ้านาย

³⁷I would declare to him the number of my steps. as a prince would I go near to him.

³⁸ถ้าที่ดินของข้าร้องกล่าวโทษข้า และร่องไถในนั้นร้องไห้ด้วยกัน

³⁸If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together;

³⁹ถ้าข้ากินผลิตผลของมันด้วยมิได้เสียเงิน และกระทำให้เจ้าของที่ดินเดิมนั้นเสียชีวิต

³⁹if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life,

⁴⁰ก็ขอให้มีต้นผักหนามงอกแทนข้าวสาลี และหญ้าสาบแร้งแทนข้าวบารลี" จบถ้อยคำของโยบ

⁴⁰let briars grow instead of wheat, and stinkweed instead of barley.” The words of Job are ended.
