1แล้วโยบตอบว่า
1Then Job answered,
2"จริงทีเดียว ข้าทราบว่าเป็นอย่างนั้น แต่คนเราจะชอบธรรมจำเพาะพระพักตร์พระเจ้าได้อย่างไร
2“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
3ถ้าคนหนึ่งคนใดปรารถนาจะโต้แย้งกับพระองค์ ในพันครั้งผู้นั้นก็ตอบพระองค์ไม่ได้สักครั้งเดียว
3If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
4พระองค์ฉลาดอยู่ในพระทัย และพระกำลังก็แข็งแรง ผู้ใดเคยได้แข็งต่อพระองค์และเจริญขึ้นได้เล่า
4God who is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and prospered?
5พระองค์ผู้ทรงเคลื่อนภูเขา และภูเขาทั้งหลายก็ไม่รู้ เมื่อพระองค์ทรงคว่ำมันเสียด้วยพระพิโรธของพระองค์
5He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
6ผู้ทรงสั่นแผ่นดินโลกให้ออกจากที่ของมัน และเสาของมันก็สั่นสะเทือน
6He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
7ผู้ทรงบัญชาดวงอาทิตย์ และมันไม่ขึ้น ผู้ทรงผนึกเก็บบรรดาดวงดาวไว้
7He commands the sun, and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.
8ผู้ทรงขึงฟ้าสวรรค์ออกแต่พระองค์เดียว และทรงย่ำคลื่นของทะเล
8He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
9ผู้ทรงสร้างหมู่ดาวจระเข้ และหมู่ดาวไถ หมู่ดาวลูกไก่ และหมู่ดาวทิศใต้
9He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.
10ผู้ทรงกระทำมหกิจเหลือที่จะเข้าใจได้ และการมหัศจรรย์อย่างนับไม่ถ้วน
10He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
11ดูเถิด พระองค์ทรงผ่านข้าไป และข้าหาเห็นพระองค์ไม่ พระองค์ทรงเลยไป และข้าหาสังเกตเห็นไม่
11Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.
12ดูเถิด พระองค์ทรงฉวยไป ใครจะห้ามพระองค์ได้ ใครจะทูลพระองค์ว่า `พระองค์ทรงกระทำอะไรนั่น'
12Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
13ถ้าพระเจ้าจะไม่ทรงหันพระพิโรธของพระองค์กลับต่อพระองค์ เหล่าสมุนของความอหังการต้องกราบอยู่
13“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
14แล้วข้าจะตอบพระองค์ได้อย่างไร จะเลือกถ้อยคำอะไรมาโต้ตอบพระองค์
14How much less shall I answer him, And choose my words to argue with him?
15แม้ว่าข้าชอบธรรม ข้าก็ตอบพระองค์ไม่ได้ ข้าจะต้องขอพระกรุณาต่อผู้พิพากษาของข้า
15Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn’t answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.
16ถ้าข้าร้องทูลต่อพระองค์ และพระองค์ทรงตอบข้า ข้าจะไม่เชื่อว่าพระองค์ทรงฟังเสียงของข้า
16If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.
17เพราะพระองค์ทรงขยี้ข้าด้วยพายุ และทวีบาดแผลของข้าโดยไม่มีเหตุ
17For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
18พระองค์จะไม่ทรงให้ข้าหายใจได้ แต่เติมความขมขื่นให้ข้าเต็ม
18He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
19ถ้าข้ากล่าวถึงกำลัง ดูเถิด พระองค์ทรงมีฤทธิ์ ถ้าเป็นเรื่องการพิพากษา ใครจะนัดเวลาให้ข้าสู้คดีได้
19If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
20ถ้าข้าอ้างว่าตัวชอบธรรม ปากของข้าจะกล่าวโทษข้า ถ้าข้าอ้างว่าตัวดีรอบคอบ พระองค์จะพิสูจน์ว่าข้าบกพร่อง
20Though I am righteous, my own mouth shall condemn me. Though I am blameless, it shall prove me perverse.
21ถึงแม้ข้าดีรอบคอบ ข้าก็ไม่เข้าใจตัวข้าเอง ข้าจะเกลียดชีวิตของข้า
21I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.
22ก็เหมือนกันหมด เพราะฉะนั้นข้าจึงว่า `พระองค์ทรงทำลายทั้งคนดีรอบคอบและคนชั่ว'
22“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
23เมื่อภัยพิบัตินำความตายมาโดยฉับพลัน พระองค์ทรงเยาะเย้ยความลำบากยากเย็นของผู้ไร้ผิด
23If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
24แผ่นดินโลกนี้ทรงมอบไว้ในมือของคนชั่ว พระองค์ทรงปิดหน้าบรรดาผู้วินิจฉัยโลก ถ้าไม่ใช่พระองค์ แล้วใครเล่า
24The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
25`วันทั้งหลายของข้าพระองค์เร็วกว่านักวิ่ง มันพ้นไป มันไม่เห็นสิ่งดีอะไร
25“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away, they see no good,
26มันผ่านไปอย่างกับเรือเร็ว ดังนกอินทรีโฉบลงบนเหยื่อ
26They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.
27ถ้าข้าพระองค์ว่า "ข้าจะลืมคำร้องทุกข์ของข้า ข้าจะทิ้งหน้าเศร้าของข้าเสีย และเบิกบาน"
27If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up;’
28ข้าพระองค์เกิดกลัวบรรดาความทุกข์ของข้าพระองค์ เพราะข้าพระองค์ทราบว่าพระองค์จะไม่ถือว่าข้าพระองค์ไร้ผิด
28I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.
29ถ้าข้าพระองค์ชั่วช้า ข้าพระองค์ตรากตรำเปล่าๆทำไม
29I shall be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
30ถ้าข้าพระองค์ชำระตัวของข้าพระองค์ด้วยน้ำจากหิมะ และล้างมือของข้าพระองค์ด้วยน้ำด่าง
30If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
31พระองค์ยังจะทรงจุ่มข้าพระองค์ลงไปในบ่อ แม้เสื้อผ้าของข้าพระองค์จะรังเกียจข้าพระองค์'
31yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes shall abhor me.
32พระองค์มิใช่มนุษย์อย่างข้า ที่ข้าจะตอบพระองค์ ซึ่งเราจะมาสู้คดีด้วยกัน
32For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.
33ไม่มีคนกลางระหว่างเรา ผู้ซึ่งจะวางมือบนเราทั้งสองได้
33There is no umpire between us, that might lay his hand on us both.
34ขอให้พระองค์ทรงนำไม้เรียวไปจากข้าเสียที และขออย่าให้ความครั่นคร้ามจากพระองค์กระทำให้ข้ากลัวมาก
34Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;
35แล้วข้าจะพูดและไม่กลัวพระองค์ แต่ใจจริงของข้าไม่เป็นอย่างนั้น"
35then I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.
