¹แต่คนอิสราเอลได้ละเมิดในเรื่องของที่ถูกสาปแช่งนั้น เพราะอาคานบุตรชายคารมี ผู้เป็นบุตรชายศับดี ผู้เป็นบุตรชายเศ-ราห์ ตระกูลยูดาห์ ได้นำของที่ถูกสาปแช่งบางส่วนไปเป็นของตน และพระพิโรธของพระเยโฮวาห์ก็พลุ่งขึ้นต่อคนอิสราเอล

¹But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against the children of Israel.

²ฝ่ายโยชูวาให้คนออกจากเยรีโคไปยังเมืองอัย ซึ่งอยู่ใกล้เบธาเวน ข้างทิศตะวันออกของเมืองเบธเอล บอกเขาว่า "จงขึ้นไปและสอดแนมดูเมืองนั้น" คนเหล่านั้นก็ขึ้นไปและสอดแนมดูที่เมืองอัย

²Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.

³และเขากลับมารายงานแก่โยชูวาว่า "ไม่ต้องให้ประชาชนทั้งหมดขึ้นไป ให้สักสองสามพันคนขึ้นไปตีเมืองอัยก็พอ ไม่ต้องให้ประชาชนทั้งหมดลำบากที่นั่นเลย เพราะเขามีคนน้อย"

³They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”

⁴เพราะฉะนั้นจึงมีประชาชนขึ้นไปที่นั่นเพียงสามพันคน แต่ต้องแตกหนีให้พ้นหน้าชาวเมืองอัย

⁴So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.

⁵ฝ่ายชาวเมืองอัยก็ฆ่าฟันคนเหล่านั้นตายประมาณสามสิบหกคน โดยขับไล่คนเหล่านั้นจากตรงหน้าประตูเมืองไปยังเชบาริมฟันเขาตามทางลง และจิตใจของประชาชนก็ละลายไปอย่างน้ำ

⁵The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them, and they chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.

⁶ฝ่ายโยชูวาก็ฉีกเสื้อผ้าของตนซบหน้าลงถึงดินหน้าหีบแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์จนถึงเวลาเย็น ทั้งท่านกับพวกผู้ใหญ่ของคนอิสราเอล ต่างก็เอาผงคลีดินใส่ศีรษะของตน

⁶Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of Yahweh until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.

⁷โยชูวากราบทูลว่า "ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้า อนิจจาเอ๋ย เป็นไฉนพระองค์จึงทรงนำชนชาตินี้ข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนมา เพื่อจะมอบเราทั้งหลายไว้ในมือของคนอาโมไรต์ให้ทำลายเสีย พวกข้าพระองค์มีความเสียดายที่ไม่พอใจอยู่เพียงฟากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างโน้น

⁷Joshua said, “Alas, Lord Yahweh, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!

⁸ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ข้าพระองค์จะทูลประการใดได้เล่าเมื่ออิสราเอลหันหลังหนีให้พ้นหน้าศัตรูเสียแล้ว

⁸Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after that Israel has turned their backs before their enemies!

⁹เพราะว่าคนคานาอันกับผู้ที่อาศัยอยู่ในแผ่นดินนั้นคงจะได้ยิน แล้วคงจะยกมาตั้งล้อมพวกข้าพระองค์ และตัดชื่อของบรรดาข้าพระองค์เสียจากแผ่นดินโลก และพระองค์จะทรงกระทำประการใดต่อพระนามอันยิ่งใหญ่ของพระองค์"

⁹For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”

¹⁰ฝ่ายพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า "จงลุกขึ้นเถิด ไฉนเจ้าจึงซบหน้าลงดังนี้เล่า

¹⁰Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you fallen on your face like that?

¹¹คนอิสราเอลได้กระทำบาป เขาได้ละเมิดพันธสัญญาซึ่งเราได้บัญชาเขาไว้ เขาได้ยักยอกของที่ถูกสาปแช่ง เขาได้ขโมยและปิดบัง และได้เอาของรวมไว้กับข้าวของของตน

¹¹Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.

¹²เพราะฉะนั้นคนอิสราเอลจึงยืนหยัดต่อสู้ศัตรูของตนไม่ได้ ได้หันหลังหนีต่อหน้าศัตรู เพราะเขากลายเป็นสิ่งที่ถูกสาปแช่ง เราจะไม่อยู่กับเจ้าทั้งหลายอีกต่อไป เว้นแต่เจ้าจะทำลายสิ่งของที่ถูกสาปแช่งเหล่านั้นเสียจากท่ามกลางพวกเจ้า

¹²Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.

¹³จงลุกขึ้นชำระประชาชนให้บริสุทธิ์และกล่าวว่า `จงชำระตัวเสียเพื่อวันพรุ่งนี้ เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของคนอิสราเอลกล่าวเช่นนี้ว่า "โอ อิสราเอลเอ๋ย มีสิ่งของที่ถูกสาปแช่งอยู่ในหมู่พวกเจ้า เจ้าจะยืนหยัดต่อสู้ศัตรูของเจ้าไม่ได้จนกว่าเจ้าจะนำสิ่งของที่ถูกสาปแช่งนั้นออกเสียจากหมู่พวกเจ้า"'

¹³“Get up! Sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, “There is a devoted thing in the midst of you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”

¹⁴พอรุ่งเช้าเจ้าทั้งหลายจงเข้ามาทีละตระกูล ตระกูลใดที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเลือกจับไว้ก็ต้องเข้ามาทีละครอบครัว ครอบครัวใดที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเลือกจับไว้ก็ให้เข้ามาทีละครัวเรือน ครัวเรือนใดที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเลือกจับไว้ ก็ให้เข้ามาทีละคน

¹⁴“‘In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which Yahweh selects shall come near by families. The family which Yahweh selects shall come near by households. The household which Yahweh selects shall come near man by man.

¹⁵ผู้ใดถูกจับว่ามีของที่ถูกสาปแช่งนั้น ก็ต้องถูกเผาเสียด้วยไฟ ทั้งตัวเขาและสารพัดที่เป็นของเขา เพราะเขาได้ละเมิดพันธสัญญาของพระเยโฮวาห์ และเพราะเขาได้กระทำความโง่เขลาในอิสราเอล"

¹⁵It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of Yahweh, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”

¹⁶โยชูวาจึงลุกขึ้นแต่เช้าตรู่ และนำคนอิสราเอลเข้ามาทีละตระกูล และตระกูลยูดาห์ถูกทรงเลือก

¹⁶So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.

¹⁷จึงนำครอบครัวของยูดาห์เข้ามา และทรงเลือกครอบครัวเศ-ราห์ และนำครอบครัวเศ-ราห์มาทีละคน และศับดีถูกทรงเลือก

¹⁷He brought near the family of Judah; and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.

¹⁸และนำครัวเรือนของท่านเข้ามาทีละคน และคนที่ถูกทรงเลือกคืออาคานบุตรชายคารมี ผู้เป็นบุตรชายศับดี ผู้เป็นบุตรชายเศ-ราห์ ตระกูลยูดาห์

¹⁸He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.

¹⁹ฝ่ายโยชูวาจึงกล่าวแก่อาคานว่า "ลูกเอ๋ย จงถวายสง่าราศีแด่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอล และจงสารภาพต่อพระองค์ จงบอกข้ามาว่าเจ้าได้กระทำอะไรไป อย่าปิดบังไว้จากข้าเลย"

¹⁹Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”

²⁰และอาคานตอบโยชูวาว่า "เป็นความจริงแล้วที่ข้าพเจ้าได้กระทำบาปต่อพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอล ข้าพเจ้าได้กระทำดังนี้

²⁰Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.

²¹ในหมู่ของที่ริบมาข้าพเจ้าได้เห็นเสื้อคลุมงามตัวหนึ่งของเมืองบาบิโลน กับเงินสองร้อยเชเขล และทองคำแท่งหนึ่งหนักห้าสิบเชเขล ข้าพเจ้าก็โลภอยากได้ของเหล่านั้น ข้าพเจ้าจึงเอามา ดูเถิด ของเหล่านั้นซ่อนอยู่ใต้ดินในเต็นท์ของข้าพเจ้า เงินนั้นอยู่ข้างล่าง"

²¹When I saw among the spoil a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”

²²ฝ่ายโยชูวาก็ให้ผู้สื่อสารออกไปและเขาทั้งหลายก็วิ่งไปที่เต็นท์ ดูเถิด ของนั้นซ่อนอยู่ในเต็นท์ของเขา มีเงินอยู่ข้างล่าง

²²So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.

²³เขาก็เอาออกมาจากกลางเต็นท์นำไปให้โยชูวาและคนอิสราเอลทั้งปวง แล้วเขาก็วางของเหล่านั้นลงต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์

²³They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before Yahweh.

²⁴และโยชูวากับบรรดาคนอิสราเอลจึงพาอาคานบุตรชายเศ-ราห์ พร้อมกับเงิน เสื้อคลุมตัวนั้น และทองแท่งนั้น ทั้งบุตรชายหญิงของเขา ทั้งวัว ลา แพะแกะ และเต็นท์ของเขา ทุกสิ่งที่เขามีอยู่ และนำคนกับของทั้งหมดไปยังหุบเขาอาโคร์

²⁴Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.

²⁵และโยชูวากล่าวว่า "ทำไมเจ้าจึงนำความยากร้ายมาให้เรา พระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงนำความยากร้ายมาถึงเจ้าในวันนี้" และบรรดาคนอิสราเอลก็เอาหินขว้างเขาให้ตาย เผาเขาทั้งหลายด้วยไฟ เมื่อขว้างเขาด้วยก้อนหินแล้ว

²⁵Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you this day.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.

²⁶แล้วเอาหินถมกองทับเขาไว้เป็นกองใหญ่ยังอยู่จนทุกวันนี้ และพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ทรงหันกลับจากพระพิโรธอันแรงกล้าของพระองค์ เพราะฉะนั้นจนถึงทุกวันนี้เขายังเรียกที่นั้นว่าหุบเขาอาโคร์

²⁶They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called “The valley of Achor” to this day.
