¹พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า "อย่ากลัวหรือขยาดเลย จงนำทหารทั้งหมดไปกับเจ้า ลุกขึ้นไปยังเมืองอัยเถิด ดูเถิด เราได้มอบกษัตริย์เมืองอัยไว้ในมือเจ้าแล้ว พร้อมทั้งประชาชนของเขา เมืองของเขาและแผ่นดินของเขาด้วย

¹Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. Behold, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, with his people, his city, and his land.

²เจ้าจงกระทำแก่เมืองอัยและกษัตริย์ของเมืองนั้นเช่นเดียวกับที่เจ้ากระทำกับเมืองเยรีโคและกษัตริย์ของเมืองนั้น แต่ข้าวของและสัตว์ที่ริบมานั้น ตกเป็นของเจ้าได้ จงตั้งซุ่มไว้ที่ข้างหลังเมือง"

²You shall do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king, except its spoil and its livestock, you shall take for a plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.”

³โยชูวาจึงลุกขึ้นพร้อมกับบรรดาทหารไปยังเมืองอัย และโยชูวาได้คัดทแกล้วทหารสามหมื่นคนให้ยกไปในเวลากลางคืน

³So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. Joshua chose thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them out by night.

⁴และท่านบัญชาเขาว่า "ดูเถิด ท่านจงซุ่มอยู่ข้างหลังเมือง อย่าให้ห่างไกลจากเมืองนัก และให้เตรียมตัวไว้พร้อมทุกคน

⁴He commanded them, saying, “Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Don’t go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.

⁵ส่วนตัวเราและประชาชนทั้งหมดที่อยู่กับเราจะเข้าไปถึงตัวเมือง และต่อมาเมื่อเขาออกมาต่อสู้เราอย่างคราวก่อน เราก็จะถอยหนีให้พ้นหน้าเขา

⁵I, and all the people who are with me, will approach to the city. It shall happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.

⁶(เขาจะตามเราออกมา) จนเราจะได้ลวงเขาให้ออกมาห่างจากตัวเมือง เพราะเขาจะพูดว่า `เขาทั้งหลายกำลังหนีจากเราอย่างคราวก่อน' ฉะนี้เราจะหนีให้พ้นหน้าเขาเรื่อยมา

⁶They will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, ‘They flee before us, like the first time.’ So we will flee before them,

⁷แล้วท่านทั้งหลายจงลุกจากที่ซุ่มซ่อนเข้ายึดเมืองนั้นไว้ เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านจะทรงมอบเมืองนั้นไว้ในมือท่าน

⁷and you shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for Yahweh your God will deliver it into your hand.

⁸และเมื่อท่านทั้งหลายเข้ายึดเมืองได้แล้ว ท่านจงจุดไฟเผาเมืองเสีย จงกระทำตามที่พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่ง ดูเถิด ข้าพเจ้าได้บัญชาท่านไว้แล้ว"

⁸It shall be, when you have seized on the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do this according to the word of Yahweh. Behold, I have commanded you.”

⁹แล้วโยชูวาก็ให้เขาไป เขาก็ออกไปยังที่ซุ่มอยู่ระหว่างเบธเอลกับเมืองอัย ทางทิศตะวันตกของเมืองอัย แต่คืนวันนั้นโยชูวานอนค้างอยู่กับประชาชน

⁹Joshua sent them out; and they went to set up the ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua stayed among the people that night.

¹⁰โยชูวาตื่นขึ้นแต่เช้าตรู่ก็ออกตรวจประชาชน แล้วขึ้นไปพร้อมกับพวกผู้ใหญ่ของอิสราเอลนำหน้าประชาชนไปเมืองอัย

¹⁰Joshua rose up early in the morning, mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.

¹¹และบรรดาประชาชน คือทหารที่อยู่กับท่านทุกคน ก็ขึ้นไปแล้วรุกใกล้ตรงหน้าตัวเมืองเข้าไป และตั้งค่ายอยู่ด้านเหนือของเมืองอัย มีหุบเขาคั่นระหว่างเขากับเมืองอัย

¹¹All the people, even the men of war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came before the city, and encamped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.

¹²และท่านจัดคนประมาณห้าพันคน ให้เขาแอบซุ่มอยู่ระหว่างเมืองเบธเอลกับเมืองอัย ทางทิศตะวันตกของตัวเมือง

¹²He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.

¹³ดังนั้นเขาทั้งหลายก็วางกำลังรบให้กองหลวงอยู่ด้านเหนือของเมือง และกองระวังหลังอยู่ด้านตะวันตกของเมือง ในคืนวันนั้นโยชูวานอนอยู่ในหุบเขา

¹³So they set the people, even all the army who was on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.

¹⁴ต่อมาเมื่อกษัตริย์เมืองอัยเห็นดังนั้น ชาวเมืองก็รีบลุกขึ้นแต่เช้าตรู่ออกไปสู้รบกับอิสราเอล ณ ที่ปะทะกันหน้าที่ราบ ทั้งท่านและประชาชนทั้งหมดของท่าน แต่ท่านไม่ทราบว่ามีกองซุ่มคอยอยู่ต่อสู้ท่านข้างหลังเมือง

¹⁴It happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah; but he didn’t know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

¹⁵โยชูวากับอิสราเอลทั้งปวงจึงแสร้งทำเป็นแพ้ฝีมือต่อหน้าเขาแล้ว หนีตรงไปยังทางถิ่นทุรกันดาร

¹⁵Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

¹⁶คนในเมืองอัยทั้งหมดก็ถูกเรียกให้ตามออกไป เมื่อเขาไล่ตามโยชูวาไปนั้น เขาก็ออกห่างจากเมืองไปทุกที

¹⁶All the people who were in the city were called together to pursue after them. They pursued Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.

¹⁷ไม่มีชายสักคนหนึ่งที่เหลืออยู่ในเมืองอัยหรือเมืองเบธเอล ที่มิได้ออกไปไล่ตามอิสราเอล เขาปล่อยให้เมืองเปิดอยู่ไล่ตามอิสราเอลไป

¹⁷There was not a man left in Ai or Beth El who didn’t go out after Israel. They left the city open, and pursued Israel.

¹⁸แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่งโยชูวาว่า "จงยื่นหอกซึ่งอยู่ในมือของเจ้าออกตรงไปยังเมืองอัย เพราะเราจะมอบเมืองนั้นไว้ในมือของเจ้า" แล้วโยชูวาก็ยื่นหอกซึ่งอยู่ในมือออกไปยังเมืองนั้น

¹⁸Yahweh said to Joshua, “Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.” Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.

¹⁹ทหารที่ซุ่มอยู่ก็ลุกออกจากที่ซ่อนอย่างรวดเร็ว พอโยชูวายื่นมือของท่านออก ทหารก็วิ่งตรงเข้าไปในเมืองและยึดเมืองไว้ แล้วเขาก็รีบจุดไฟเผาเมือง

¹⁹The ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it. They hurried and set the city on fire.

²⁰เมื่อชาวเมืองอัยเหลียวหลังมาดู ดูเถิด ควันไฟที่ไหม้เมืองพลุ่งขึ้นไปยังท้องฟ้า เขาก็หมดกำลังที่จะหนีไปทางนี้หรือทางนั้น เพราะว่าประชาชนที่หนีไปทางถิ่นทุรกันดารหันกลับมาต่อสู้กับผู้ที่ไล่ตาม

²⁰When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.

²¹และเมื่อโยชูวากับบรรดาอิสราเอลเห็นว่ากองซุ่มยึดเมืองได้แล้ว และควันไฟที่ไหม้เมืองพลุ่งขึ้น เขาก็หันกลับมาโจมตีชาวเมืองอัย

²¹When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and killed the men of Ai.

²²คนอื่นๆก็ออกมาจากเมืองสู้รบกับเขา กระทำให้เขาอยู่ระหว่างกลางอิสราเอล ผู้อยู่ข้างนี้บ้างข้างโน้นบ้าง และคนอิสราเอลก็โจมตีเขาจนไม่มีสักคนหนึ่งรอดชีวิตหรือหนีไปได้

²²The others came out of the city against them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. They struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.

²³แต่กษัตริย์เมืองอัยยังเป็นอยู่ ได้ถูกจับและคุมตัวมาหาโยชูวา

²³They captured the king of Ai alive, and brought him to Joshua.

²⁴ต่อมาเมื่ออิสราเอลไล่ฆ่าฟันชาวเมืองอัยทั้งหมดในทุ่งในถิ่นทุรกันดารที่เขาไล่ตามไปนั้น และคนเหล่านั้นล้มตายหมดด้วยคมดาบจนคนสุดท้าย บรรดาคนอิสราเอลก็กลับเข้าเมืองอัยโจมตีคนในเมืองด้วยคมดาบ

²⁴It happened, when Israel had made an end of killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they pursued them, and they had all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all Israel returned to Ai, and struck it with the edge of the sword.

²⁵คนที่ล้มตายทั้งหมดวันนั้นทั้งชายและหญิงจำนวนหมื่นสองพันคน คือชาวเมืองอัยทั้งหมด

²⁵All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

²⁶เพราะโยชูวามิได้หดมือที่ถือหอกยื่นอยู่นั้น จนกว่าจะได้ผลาญชาวเมืองอัยพินาศสิ้น

²⁶For Joshua didn’t draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

²⁷แต่คนอิสราเอลได้ริบเอาฝูงสัตว์และข้าวของของเมืองนั้นเป็นของตน ตามพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์ ซึ่งทรงบัญชาไว้กับโยชูวา

²⁷Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of Yahweh which he commanded Joshua.

²⁸ดังนี้แหละโยชูวาจึงเผาเมืองอัยเสีย กระทำให้เป็นกองซากปรักหักพังอยู่เป็นนิตย์ คือเป็นที่รกร้างอยู่จนถึงทุกวันนี้

²⁸So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap forever, even a desolation, to this day.

²⁹และท่านแขวนกษัตริย์เมืองอัยไว้ที่ต้นไม้จนถึงเวลาเย็น เมื่อดวงอาทิตย์ตกโยชูวาจึงบัญชาและเขาก็ปลดศพลงจากต้นไม้นำไปทิ้งไว้ที่ทางเข้าประตูเมือง แล้วเอาหินถมทับไว้เป็นกองใหญ่ซึ่งยังอยู่จนทุกวันนี้

²⁹He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening, and at the sundown Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised a great heap of stones on it that remains to this day.

³⁰แล้วโยชูวาได้สร้างแท่นบูชาในภูเขาเอบาลถวายแด่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอล

³⁰Then Joshua built an altar to Yahweh, the God of Israel, in Mount Ebal,

³¹ดังที่โมเสสผู้รับใช้ของพระเยโฮวาห์บัญชาประชาชนอิสราเอล ตามที่จารึกไว้ในหนังสือพระราชบัญญัติของโมเสสว่า "แท่นบูชาทำด้วยหินมิได้ตกแต่ง ซึ่งไม่มีผู้ใดใช้เครื่องมือเหล็กถูกต้องเลย" แล้วเขาก็ถวายเครื่องเผาบูชาแด่พระเยโฮวาห์บนแท่นนั้น และถวายสันติบูชา

³¹as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of uncut stones, on which no man had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt offerings on it to Yahweh, and sacrificed peace offerings.

³²ณ ที่นั้นท่านคัดลอกพระราชบัญญัติของโมเสสบนหิน ซึ่งท่านได้เขียนไว้ต่อหน้าประชาชนอิสราเอล

³²He wrote there on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.

³³คนอิสราเอลทั้งหมด ทั้งคนต่างด้าวและคนที่เกิดในอิสราเอล พร้อมทั้งพวกผู้ใหญ่ เจ้าหน้าที่ และผู้พิพากษา ยืนอยู่ทั้งสองข้างของหีบต่อหน้าคนเลวีที่เป็นปุโรหิต ผู้ที่หามหีบพันธสัญญาของพระเยโฮวาห์ ครึ่งหนึ่งยืนอยู่ข้างหน้าภูเขาเกริซิม อีกครึ่งหนึ่งข้างหน้าภูเขาเอบาล ดังที่โมเสสผู้รับใช้ของพระเยโฮวาห์ได้บัญชาไว้ในครั้งแรกให้เขาทั้งหลายอวยพรแก่คนอิสราเอล

³³All Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, who carried the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of Yahweh had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.

³⁴ภายหลังท่านจึงอ่านบรรดาถ้อยคำในพระราชบัญญัติ เป็นคำอวยพรและคำสาปแช่ง ตามที่มีจารึกไว้ในหนังสือพระราชบัญญัติทุกประการ

³⁴Afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

³⁵ไม่มีคำซึ่งโมเสสได้บัญชาไว้สักคำเดียวที่โยชูวามิได้อ่านต่อหน้าบรรดาชุมชนอิสราเอลพร้อมกับผู้หญิงกับเด็กๆ และคนต่างด้าวซึ่งอยู่ในหมู่พวกเขา

³⁵There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua didn’t read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the foreigners who were among them.
