¹แซมสันได้ลงไปยังเมืองทิมนาห์ และได้เห็นผู้หญิงคนฟีลิสเตียคนหนึ่งที่เมืองทิมนาห์

¹Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.

²แล้วท่านจึงขึ้นมาบอกบิดามารดาของตนว่า "ฉันเห็นผู้หญิงคนฟีลิสเตียคนหนึ่งที่เมืองทิมนาห์ ไปขอเขาให้เป็นเมียฉันที"

²He came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me as wife.”

³แต่บิดาและมารดาของท่านกล่าวแก่ท่านว่า "จะหาเมียในบรรดาญาติพี่น้องของเจ้า หรือในท่ามกลางชนชาติของเราไม่ได้หรือ เจ้าจึงจะไปรับหญิงจากคนฟีลิสเตียที่ไม่เข้าสุหนัตมาเป็นเมียของเจ้า" แต่แซมสันกล่าวแก่บิดาว่า "ไปขอหญิงนั้นให้ฉันที เพราะเธอเป็นที่พอใจฉันมาก"

³Then his father and his mother said to him, “Is there never a woman among the daughters of your brothers, or among all my people, that you go to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines?” Samson said to his father, “Get her for me; for she pleases me well.”

⁴บิดามารดาของท่านไม่ทราบว่าเรื่องนี้เป็นมาจากพระเยโฮวาห์ เพราะพระองค์ทรงหาช่องโอกาสที่จะต่อสู้คนฟีลิสเตีย ครั้งนั้นคนฟีลิสเตียมีอำนาจเหนืออิสราเอล

⁴But his father and his mother didn’t know that it was of Yahweh; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.

⁵ฝ่ายแซมสันก็ลงไปที่เมืองทิมนาห์กับบิดามารดาของตน แซมสันมาถึงสวนองุ่นของทิมนาห์ ดูเถิด มีสิงโตหนุ่มตัวหนึ่งคำรามเข้าใส่ท่าน

⁵Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah: and behold, a young lion roared against him.

⁶พระวิญญาณของพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ทรงสถิตกับแซมสันอย่างมาก ท่านจึงฉีกสิงโตออกอย่างคนฉีกลูกแพะ ทั้งที่ไม่มีอะไรในมือ แต่ท่านมิได้บอกให้บิดาหรือมารดาของท่านทราบว่าท่านได้ทำอะไรไป

⁶The Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on him, and he tore him as he would have torn a young goat; and he had nothing in his hand: but he didn’t tell his father or his mother what he had done.

⁷แซมสันก็ลงไปพูดจากับหญิงคนนั้น เธอเป็นที่พอใจแก่แซมสันมาก

⁷He went down, and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.

⁸ต่อมาภายหลังแซมสันก็กลับไปเพื่อรับเธอมา ท่านก็แวะไปดูซากสิงโต และดูเถิด มีผึ้งฝูงหนึ่งทำรังอยู่ในซากสิงโตนั้น มีน้ำผึ้งด้วย

⁸After a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.

⁹แซมสันก็ยื่นมือกวาดเอารวงผึ้งมาเดินรับประทานไปพลาง จนมาถึงบิดามารดา ท่านจึงแบ่งให้บิดามารดารับประทานด้วย แต่ท่านมิได้บอกว่าน้ำผึ้งนั้นมาจากซากสิงโต

⁹He took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave to them, and they ate: but he didn’t tell them that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion.

¹⁰ฝ่ายบิดาของท่านก็ลงไปหาหญิงคนนั้น และแซมสันจัดการเลี้ยงที่นั่น ดังที่คนหนุ่มๆเขากระทำกัน

¹⁰His father went down to the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.

¹¹และต่อมาเมื่อประชาชนเห็นท่านแล้ว จึงนำเพื่อนสามสิบคนให้มาอยู่ด้วย

¹¹It happened, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.

¹²แซมสันกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "ให้ข้าพเจ้าทายปริศนาท่านสักข้อหนึ่งเถิด ถ้าทายได้ก่อนจบการเลี้ยงเจ็ดวันนี้ เราจะให้เสื้อป่านสามสิบชุด และเสื้อสามสิบชุดด้วย

¹²Samson said to them, “Let me tell you a riddle now. If you can declare it to me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing;

¹³ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายทายไม่ได้ ท่านต้องให้เสื้อป่านสามสิบชุดกับเสื้อสามสิบชุดแก่ข้าพเจ้า" เขาก็ตอบท่านว่า "ทายมาเถิด เราจะฟัง"

¹³but if you can’t declare it to me, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.” They said to him, “Put forth your riddle, that we may hear it.”

¹⁴ฝ่ายแซมสันจึงกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "มีของกินได้ออกมาจากตัวผู้กินเขา มีของหวานออกมาจากตัวที่แข็งแรง" ในสามวันเขาก็ยังแก้ปริศนานี้ไม่ได้

¹⁴He said to them, “Out of the eater came forth food. Out of the strong came forth sweetness.” They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle.

¹⁵ต่อมาพอถึงวันที่เจ็ดเขาจึงไปอ้อนวอนภรรยาของแซมสันว่า "จงลวงสามีของเจ้าให้แก้ปริศนานี้ให้เราฟัง มิฉะนั้นเราจะเอาไฟเผาเจ้ากับบ้านครอบครัวบิดาของเจ้าเสีย เจ้าเชิญเรามาหวังจะทำให้เรายากจนหรือ"

¹⁵It happened on the seventh day, that they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Is it not so?”

¹⁶ภรรยาของแซมสันไปร้องไห้กับแซมสันว่า "เธอเกลียดฉัน เธอไม่รักฉัน เธอทายปริศนาแก่ชาวเมืองของฉัน และเธอก็ไม่แก้ปริศนาให้ฉันฟัง" แซมสันจึงบอกว่า "ดูเถิด พ่อแม่ของฉัน ฉันยังไม่บอกเลย จะบอกเธออย่างไรได้"

¹⁶Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, “You just hate me, and don’t love me. You have put forth a riddle to the children of my people, and haven’t told it me.” He said to her, “Behold, I haven’t told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell you?”

¹⁷เธอร้องไห้กับแซมสันตลอดเจ็ดวันซึ่งเป็นวันเลี้ยงกันนั้น และต่อมาในวันที่เจ็ดแซมสันก็ต้องแก้ปริศนาให้เธอฟัง เพราะเธอกวนท่านมากนัก และนางก็บอกแก้ปริศนาให้ชาวบ้านของนาง

¹⁷She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it happened on the seventh day, that he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.

¹⁸พอวันที่เจ็ดก่อนดวงอาทิตย์ตกชาวเมืองจึงบอกแซมสันว่า "มีอะไรหวานกว่าน้ำผึ้ง มีอะไรแข็งแรงกว่าสิงโต" แซมสันจึงบอกเขาว่า "ถ้าเจ้าไม่เอาแม่วัวของเราช่วยไถ เจ้าคงจะแก้ปริศนาของเราไม่ได้"

¹⁸The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them, “If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”

¹⁹และพระวิญญาณของพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ทรงสถิตกับแซมสันอย่างมาก ท่านจึงลงไปที่อัชเคโลนฆ่าชาวเมืองนั้นเสียสามสิบคน ริบเอาข้าวของและมอบเสื้อให้ผู้ที่แก้ปริศนา แล้วให้กลับไปบ้านของบิดาด้วยความโกรธอย่างมาก

¹⁹The Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and struck thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave the changes of clothing to those who declared the riddle. His anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.

²⁰ส่วนภรรยาของแซมสันนั้นก็ยกให้แก่เพื่อนซึ่งเป็นเพื่อนเจ้าบ่าวนั้นเสีย

²⁰But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.
