¹คนเอฟราอิมจึงพูดกับท่านว่า "ทำไมท่านจึงกระทำแก่เราอย่างนี้ คือเมื่อท่านยกไปต่อสู้พวกมีเดียนนั้น ท่านก็ไม่ได้เชิญเราให้ไปรบด้วย" และเขาทั้งหลายก็ต่อว่าท่านอย่างรุนแรง

¹The men of Ephraim said to him, “Why have you treated us this way, that you didn’t call us, when you went to fight with Midian?” They rebuked him sharply.

²ท่านจึงตอบเขาทั้งหลายว่า "สิ่งที่เราทำมาแล้วจะเปรียบเทียบกับสิ่งที่ท่านทั้งหลายทำแล้วได้หรือ ผลองุ่นที่ชาวเอฟราอิมเก็บเล็มก็ยังดีกว่าผลองุ่นที่อาบีเยเซอร์เก็บเกี่ยวมิใช่หรือ

²He said to them, “What have I now done in comparison with you? Isn’t the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

³พระเจ้าประทานโอเรบและเศเอบ เจ้านายมีเดียนไว้ในมือของท่าน ข้าพเจ้าสามารถกระทำอะไรที่จะเทียบกับท่านได้เล่า" เมื่อท่านพูดอย่างนี้ เขาทั้งหลายก็หายโกรธ

³God has delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb! What was I able to do in comparison with you?” Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

⁴กิเดโอนก็มาที่แม่น้ำจอร์แดนและข้ามไป ทั้งท่านและทหารสามร้อยคนที่อยู่ด้วย ถึงจะอ่อนเปลี้ยแต่ก็ยังติดตามไป

⁴Gideon came to the Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men who were with him, faint, yet pursuing.

⁵ท่านจึงพูดกับชาวเมืองสุคคทว่า "ขอขนมปังให้คนที่ติดตามเรามาบ้าง เพราะเขาอ่อนเปลี้ย เรากำลังไล่ติดตามเศบาห์และศัลมุนนากษัตริย์แห่งมีเดียน"

⁵He said to the men of Succoth, “Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

⁶เจ้านายของเมืองสุคคทจึงตอบว่า "มือของเศบาห์และของศัลมุนนาอยู่ในมือเจ้าแล้วหรือ เราจึงจะเอาขนมปังมาเลี้ยงกองทัพของเจ้า"

⁶The princes of Succoth said, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?”

⁷กิเดโอนจึงกล่าวว่า "ถ้าอย่างนั้นเมื่อพระเยโฮวาห์มอบเศบาห์และศัลมุนนาไว้ในมือเราแล้ว เราจะเอาหนามใหญ่แห่งถิ่นทุรกันดาร และหนามย่อยมานวดเนื้อเจ้าทั้งหลาย"

⁷Gideon said, “Therefore when Yahweh has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.”

⁸ท่านก็ออกจากที่นั่นขึ้นไปยังเมืองเปนูเอล และพูดกับเขาในทำนองเดียวกัน ชาวเมืองเปนูเอลก็ตอบท่านอย่างเดียวกับที่ชาวเมืองสุคคทตอบ

⁸He went up there to Penuel, and spoke to them in the same way; and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

⁹ท่านจึงพูดกับชาวเมืองเปนูเอลด้วยว่า "เมื่อเรากลับมาด้วยสันติภาพ เราจะพังป้อมนี้ลงเสีย"

⁹He spoke also to the men of Penuel, saying, “When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.”

¹⁰ฝ่ายเศบาห์และศัลมุนนาอาศัยอยู่ที่คารโครกับกองทัพมีทหารหนึ่งหมื่นห้าพันคน เป็นกองทัพชาวตะวันออกที่เหลืออยู่ทั้งหมด เพราะว่าผู้ที่ถือดาบล้มตายเสียหนึ่งแสนสองหมื่นคน

¹⁰Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the children of the east; for there fell one hundred twenty thousand men who drew sword.

¹¹กิเดโอนขึ้นไปตามทางสัญจรของคนที่อาศัยในเต็นท์ ทิศตะวันออกของเมืองโนบาห์และเมืองโยกเบฮาห์เข้าโจมตีกองทัพได้แล้ว เพราะว่ากองทัพคิดว่าพ้นภัย

¹¹Gideon went up by the way of those who lived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and struck the army; for the army was secure.

¹²เศบาห์และศัลมุนนาก็หนีไป กิเดโอนก็ไล่ติดตามไปจับเศบาห์กับศัลมุนนากษัตริย์พวกมีเดียนทั้งสององค์ได้ และทำกองทัพทั้งหมดให้แตกตื่น

¹²Zebah and Zalmunna fled; and he pursued after them; and he took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and confused all the army.

¹³ฝ่ายกิเดโอนบุตรชายโยอาชก็กลับจากการศึกก่อนดวงอาทิตย์ขึ้น

¹³Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres.

¹⁴จับชายหนุ่มชาวเมืองสุคคทได้คนหนึ่ง จึงซักถามเขา ชายคนนี้ก็เขียนชื่อเจ้านายและพวกผู้ใหญ่ของเมืองสุคคทให้ รวมเจ็ดสิบเจ็ดคนด้วยกัน

¹⁴He caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and its elders, seventy-seven men.

¹⁵กิเดโอนจึงมาหาชาวเมืองสุคคทกล่าวว่า "จงมาดูเศบาห์และศัลมุนนา ซึ่งเมื่อก่อนเจ้าเยาะเย้ยเราว่า `มือของเศบาห์และของศัลมุนนาอยู่ในมือเจ้าแล้วหรือ เราจะได้เลี้ยงทหารที่เหน็ดเหนื่อยของเจ้าด้วยขนมปัง'"

¹⁵He came to the men of Succoth, and said, “See Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?’”

¹⁶กิเดโอนก็จับพวกผู้ใหญ่ในเมืองเอาหนามใหญ่แห่งถิ่นกันดาร และหนามย่อยด้วย มาสั่งสอนชาวเมืองสุคคท

¹⁶He took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

¹⁷ท่านก็พังป้อมเมืองเปนูเอล และประหารชีวิตชาวเมืองเสีย

¹⁷He broke down the tower of Penuel, and killed the men of the city.

¹⁸ท่านจึงถามเศบาห์และศัลมุนนาว่า "คนที่เจ้าฆ่าเสียที่ทาโบร์เป็นคนแบบไหน" เขาตอบว่า "ท่านเป็นอย่างไร เขาก็เป็นอย่างนั้น เป็นเหมือนราชบุตรทุกคน"

¹⁸Then he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?” They answered, “They were like you. Each one resembled the children of a king.”

¹⁹กิเดโอนจึงกล่าวว่า "คนเหล่านั้นเป็นพี่น้องท้องเดียวกันกับเรา พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ฉันใด ถ้าเจ้าไว้ชีวิตเขา เราก็จะไม่ประหารชีวิตเจ้าแน่ฉันนั้น"

¹⁹He said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As Yahweh lives, if you had saved them alive, I would not kill you.”

²⁰แล้วท่านสั่งเยเธอร์บุตรหัวปีของท่านว่า "จงลุกขึ้นฆ่าเขาทั้งสองเสีย" แต่หนุ่มคนนั้นไม่ยอมชักดาบออก ด้วยว่าเขากลัว เพราะเขายังหนุ่มอยู่

²⁰He said to Jether his firstborn, “Get up, and kill them!” But the youth didn’t draw his sword; for he was afraid, because he was yet a youth.

²¹ฝ่ายเศบาห์กับศัลมุนนาจึงว่า "ท่านลุกขึ้นฟันเราเองซิ เป็นผู้ใหญ่เท่าใดกำลังก็แข็งเท่านั้น" กิเดโอนก็ลุกขึ้นฆ่าเศบาห์และศัลมุนนาเสีย แล้วเก็บเครื่องประดับที่คออูฐของเขาไว้

²¹Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, “Rise and fall on us; for as the man is, so is his strength.” Gideon arose, and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels’ necks.

²²ครั้งนั้นคนอิสราเอลก็เรียนกิเดโอนว่า "ขอจงปกครองพวกข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายเถิด ทั้งตัวท่านและลูกหลานของท่านสืบไปด้วย เพราะว่าท่านได้ช่วยเราทั้งหลายให้พ้นจากมือของมีเดียน"

²²Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you, and your son, and your son’s son also; for you have saved us out of the hand of Midian.”

²³กิเดโอนจึงตอบเขาทั้งหลายว่า "เราจะไม่ปกครองท่านทั้งหลาย และบุตรชายของเราก็จะไม่ปกครองท่านทั้งหลาย พระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงปกครองท่านทั้งหลายเอง"

²³Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you. Yahweh shall rule over you.”

²⁴กิเดโอนก็บอกคนเหล่านั้นว่า "เราจะขอสิ่งหนึ่งจากท่านทั้งหลาย คือขอให้ทุกคนถวายตุ้มหูซึ่งริบมาได้นั้น" (ด้วยว่าคนเหล่านั้นมีตุ้มหูทองคำเพราะเป็นชนอิชมาเอล)

²⁴Gideon said to them, “I would make a request of you, that you would give me every man the earrings of his spoil.” (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

²⁵เขาก็เรียนตอบท่านว่า "เราทั้งหลายเต็มใจจะให้" เขาก็ปูผ้าลง วางตุ้มหูซึ่งริบมาได้นั้นไว้ที่นั่น

²⁵They answered, “We will willingly give them.” They spread a garment, and every man threw the earrings of his spoil into it.

²⁶ตุ้มหูทองคำซึ่งท่านขอได้นั้นมีน้ำหนักหนึ่งพันเจ็ดร้อยเชเขลทองคำ นอกจากนี้ยังมีเครื่องประดับ จี้และฉลององค์สีม่วงซึ่งกษัตริย์พวกมีเดียนทรง ทั้งเครื่องผูกคออูฐด้วย

²⁶The weight of the golden earrings that he requested was one thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold, besides the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple clothing that was on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

²⁷กิเดโอนก็เอาทองคำนี้ทำเป็นรูปเอโฟดเก็บไว้ที่เมืองของท่านคือโอฟราห์ และบรรดาคนอิสราเอลก็เล่นชู้กับรูปนี้กระทำให้เป็นบ่วงดักกิเดโอนและวงศ์วานของท่าน

²⁷Gideon made an ephod of it, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel played the prostitute after it there; and it became a snare to Gideon, and to his house.

²⁸ดังนี้แหละพวกมีเดียนก็พ่ายแพ้ต่อหน้าคนอิสราเอล ไม่อาจยกศีรษะขึ้นอีกได้เลย และแผ่นดินก็พักสงบอยู่ในสมัยของกิเดโอนถึงสี่สิบปี

²⁸So Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, and they lifted up their heads no more. The land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon.

²⁹ฝ่ายเยรุบบาอัลบุตรชายของโยอาชก็ไปอาศัยอยู่ในบ้านของตน

²⁹Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and lived in his own house.

³⁰กิเดโอนมีบุตรชายเกิดจากบั้นเอวของท่านเจ็ดสิบคน เพราะท่านมีภรรยาหลายคน

³⁰Gideon had seventy sons conceived from his body; for he had many wives.

³¹เมียน้อยของกิเดโอนที่อยู่ ณ เมืองเชเคมก็คลอดบุตรชายให้ท่านคนหนึ่งด้วย ท่านตั้งชื่อว่าอาบีเมเลค

³¹His concubine who was in Shechem, she also bore him a son, and he named him Abimelech.

³²กิเดโอนบุตรชายของโยอาชมีอายุชราลงมากก็สิ้นชีวิต เขาฝังท่านไว้ที่เมืองโอฟราห์ของคนอาบีเยเซอร์ ในอุโมงค์ฝังศพโยอาชบิดาของท่าน

³²Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the tomb of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

³³อยู่มาเมื่อกิเดโอนสิ้นชีวิตแล้ว คนอิสราเอลก็หันกลับอีก และเล่นชู้กับพระบาอัล ถือว่าบาอัลเบรีทเป็นพระของเขาทั้งหลาย

³³It happened, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and played the prostitute after the Baals, and made Baal Berith their god.

³⁴คนอิสราเอลมิได้ระลึกถึงพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของตน ผู้ทรงช่วยเขาให้พ้นมือศัตรูทั้งหลายรอบด้าน

³⁴The children of Israel didn’t remember Yahweh their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side;

³⁵เขามิได้แสดงความเมตตาแก่ครอบครัวเยรุบบาอัล คือกิเดโอน เป็นการตอบแทนความดีทั้งสิ้นซึ่งกิเดโอนได้กระทำแก่คนอิสราเอล

³⁵neither did they show kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shown to Israel.
