¹ต่อมาเมื่อพระองค์เสด็จเข้าไปในบ้านของขุนนางคนหนึ่งในพวกฟาริสีในวันสะบาโต จะเสวยพระกระยาหาร เขาทั้งหลายคอยมองดูพระองค์

¹It happened, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him.

²ดูเถิด มีชายคนหนึ่งเป็นโรคมานน้ำอยู่ต่อพระพักตร์พระองค์

²Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him.

³พระเยซูจึงตรัสถามพวกบาเรียนและพวกฟาริสีว่า "ถ้าจะรักษาคนป่วยในวันสะบาโตจะผิดพระราชบัญญัติหรือไม่"

³Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

⁴เขาทั้งหลายก็นิ่งอยู่ พระองค์ทรงรับและรักษาคนนั้นให้หาย แล้วก็ให้เขาไป

⁴But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go.

⁵พระองค์จึงตรัสกับเขาทั้งหลายว่า "คนไหนในพวกท่าน ถ้าจะมีลาหรือวัวตกบ่อ จะไม่รีบฉุดลากมันออกในวันสะบาโตหรือ"

⁵He answered them, “Which of you, if your son TR reads “donkey” instead of “son” or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”

⁶เขาทั้งหลายตอบข้อนี้ไม่ได้

⁶They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.

⁷ฝ่ายพระองค์เมื่อทอดพระเนตรเห็นคนทั้งหลายที่รับเชิญนั้นได้เลือกเอาที่อันมีเกียรติ พระองค์จึงตรัสคำอุปมาแก่เขาว่า

⁷He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,

⁸"เมื่อผู้ใดเชิญท่านไปในการเลี้ยงสมรส อย่าเอนกายลงในที่อันมีเกียรติ เกลือกว่าเขาได้เชิญคนมีเกียรติมากกว่าท่านอีก

⁸ “When you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,

⁹และเจ้าภาพที่ได้เชิญท่านทั้งสองนั้นจะมาพูดกับท่านว่า `จงให้ที่นั่งแก่ท่านผู้นี้เถิด' แล้วท่านจะต้องเริ่มเลื่อนลงมาที่ต่ำได้รับความอดสู

⁹ and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.

¹⁰แต่เมื่อท่านได้รับเชิญแล้ว จงไปเอนกายลงในที่ต่ำก่อน เพื่อว่าเมื่อเจ้าภาพที่ได้เชิญท่านมาพูดกับท่านว่า `สหายเอ๋ย เชิญเลื่อนไปนั่งที่อันมีเกียรติ' แล้วท่านจะได้เกียรติต่อหน้าคนทั้งหลายที่เอนกายลงรับประทานด้วยกันนั้น

¹⁰ But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.

¹¹เพราะว่าทุกคนที่ได้ยกตัวขึ้นจะต้องถูกเหยียดลง และผู้ที่ถ่อมตัวลงนั้นจะได้รับการยกขึ้น"

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

¹²ฝ่ายพระองค์ตรัสกับคนที่เชิญพระองค์ว่า "เมื่อท่านจะทำการเลี้ยง จะเป็นกลางวันหรือเวลาเย็นก็ตาม อย่าเชิญเฉพาะเหล่ามิตรสหาย หรือพี่น้องหรือญาติหรือเพื่อนบ้านที่มั่งมี เกลือกว่าเขาจะเชิญท่านอีก และท่านจะได้รับการตอบแทน

¹²He also said to the one who had invited him, “When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.

¹³แต่เมื่อท่านทำการเลี้ยง จงเชิญคนจน คนพิการ คนง่อย คนตาบอด

¹³ But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;

¹⁴และท่านจะเป็นสุขเพราะว่าเขาไม่มีอะไรจะตอบแทนท่าน ด้วยว่าท่านจะได้รับตอบแทนเมื่อคนชอบธรรมเป็นขึ้นมาจากความตายแล้ว"

¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”

¹⁵ฝ่ายคนหนึ่งที่เอนกายลงรับประทานด้วยกัน เมื่อได้ยินคำเหล่านั้นจึงทูลพระองค์ว่า "ผู้ที่จะรับประทานอาหารในอาณาจักรของพระเจ้าก็เป็นสุข"

¹⁵When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will feast in the Kingdom of God!”

¹⁶พระองค์ตรัสกับเขาว่า "ยังมีชายคนหนึ่งได้ทำการเลี้ยงใหญ่ และได้เชิญคนเป็นอันมาก

¹⁶But he said to him, “A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.

¹⁷เมื่อถึงเวลาเลี้ยงแล้ว เขาก็ใช้ผู้รับใช้ของตนไปบอกคนทั้งหลายที่ได้รับเชิญไว้แล้วว่า `เชิญมาเถิด เพราะสิ่งสารพัดเตรียมไว้พร้อมแล้ว'

¹⁷ He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’

¹⁸บรรดาคนทั้งหลายก็เริ่มพากันขอตัว คนแรกบอกเขาว่า `ข้าพเจ้าได้ซื้อนาไว้และจะต้องไปดูนานั้น ข้าพเจ้าขอตัวเถอะ'

¹⁸ They all as one began to make excuses. “The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’

¹⁹อีกคนหนึ่งว่า `ข้าพเจ้าได้ซื้อวัวไว้ห้าคู่และจะต้องไปลองดูวัวนั้น ข้าพเจ้าขอตัวเถอะ'

¹⁹ “Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’

²⁰อีกคนหนึ่งว่า `ข้าพเจ้าพึ่งแต่งงานใหม่ เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าไปไม่ได้'

²⁰ “Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’

²¹ผู้รับใช้นั้นจึงกลับมาเล่าเนื้อความให้นายฟัง นายก็โกรธ จึงสั่งผู้รับใช้ว่า `จงออกไปโดยเร็วตามถนนใหญ่และตรอกน้อยในเมือง พาคนจน คนพิการ คนง่อย และคนตาบอดเข้ามาที่นี่'

²¹ “That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’

²²แล้วผู้รับใช้จึงบอกว่า `นายเจ้าข้า ข้าพเจ้าได้กระทำตามท่านสั่งแล้ว และยังมีที่ว่างอยู่'

²² “The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’

²³นายจึงสั่งผู้รับใช้นั้นว่า `จงออกไปตามทางใหญ่และและรั้วต้นไม้ทั้งหลาย และเร่งเร้าเขาให้เข้ามาเพื่อเรือนของเราจะเต็ม

²³ “The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

²⁴เพราะเราบอกเจ้าว่า ในพวกคนทั้งหลายที่ได้รับเชิญไว้นั้น ไม่มีสักคนหนึ่งจะได้ลิ้มเครื่องของเราเลย'"

²⁴ For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper.’”

²⁵คนเป็นอันมากได้ไปกับพระองค์ พระองค์จึงทรงเหลียวหลังตรัสกับเขาว่า

²⁵Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,

²⁶"ถ้าผู้ใดมาหาเรา และไม่ชังบิดามารดา บุตรภรรยา และพี่น้องชายหญิง แม้ทั้งชีวิตของตนเองด้วย ผู้นั้นจะเป็นสาวกของเราไม่ได้

²⁶ “If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard or, hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.

²⁷ผู้ใดมิได้แบกกางเขนของตนตามเรามา ผู้นั้นจะเป็นสาวกของเราไม่ได้

²⁷ Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.

²⁸ด้วยว่าในพวกท่านมีผู้ใดเมื่อปรารถนาจะสร้างป้อม จะไม่นั่งลงคิดราคาดูเสียก่อนว่า จะมีพอสร้างให้สำเร็จได้หรือไม่

²⁸ For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?

²⁹เกรงว่าเมื่อลงรากแล้ว และกระทำให้สำเร็จไม่ได้ คนทั้งปวงที่เห็นจะเริ่มเยาะเย้ยเขา

²⁹ Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,

³⁰ว่า `คนนี้ตั้งต้นก่อ แต่ทำให้สำเร็จไม่ได้'

³⁰ saying, ‘This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’

³¹หรือมีกษัตริย์องค์ใดเมื่อจะยกกองทัพไปทำสงครามกับกษัตริย์อื่น จะมิได้นั่งลงคิดดูก่อนหรือว่า ที่ตนมีพลทหารหมื่นหนึ่งจะสู้กับกองทัพที่ยกมารบสองหมื่นนั้นได้หรือไม่

³¹ Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

³²ถ้าสู้ไม่ได้ เมื่อยังอยู่ห่างกันก็จะใช้พวกทูตไปขอเป็นไมตรีกัน

³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.

³³ก็เช่นนั้นแหละ ทุกคนในพวกท่านที่มิได้สละสิ่งสารพัดที่ตนมีอยู่ จะเป็นสาวกของเราไม่ได้

³³ So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

³⁴เกลือเป็นสิ่งดี แต่ถ้าแม้เกลือนั้นหมดรสเค็มไปแล้ว จะทำให้กลับเค็มอีกอย่างไรได้

³⁴ Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it?

³⁵จะใช้เป็นปุ๋ยใส่ดินก็ไม่ได้ จะหมักไว้กับกองมูลสัตว์ทำปุ๋ยก็ไม่ได้ แต่เขาก็ทิ้งเสียเท่านั้น ใครมีหู จงฟังเถิด"

³⁵ It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
