¹ครั้งนั้นบรรดาคนเก็บภาษีและพวกคนบาปก็เข้ามาใกล้เพื่อจะฟังพระองค์

¹Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming close to him to hear him.

²ฝ่ายพวกฟาริสีและพวกธรรมาจารย์บ่นว่า "คนนี้ต้อนรับคนบาปและกินด้วยกันกับเขา"

²The Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them.”

³พระองค์จึงตรัสคำอุปมาให้เขาฟังดังต่อไปนี้ว่า

³He told them this parable.

⁴"ในพวกท่านมีคนใดที่มีแกะร้อยตัว และตัวหนึ่งหายไป จะไม่ละเก้าสิบเก้าตัวนั้นไว้ที่กลางทุ่งหญ้า และไปเที่ยวหาตัวที่หายไปนั้นจนกว่าจะได้พบหรือ

⁴ “Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn’t leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?

⁵เมื่อพบแล้วเขาก็ยกขึ้นใส่บ่าแบกมาด้วยความเปรมปรีดิ์

⁵ When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

⁶เมื่อมาถึงบ้านแล้ว จึงเชิญพวกมิตรสหายและเพื่อนบ้านให้มาพร้อมกัน พูดกับเขาว่า `จงยินดีกับข้าพเจ้าเถิด เพราะข้าพเจ้าได้พบแกะของข้าพเจ้าที่หายไปนั้นแล้ว'

⁶ When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’

⁷เราบอกท่านทั้งหลายว่า เช่นนั้นแหละ จะมีความปรีดีในสวรรค์เพราะคนบาปคนเดียวที่กลับใจใหม่ มากกว่าเพราะคนชอบธรรมเก้าสิบเก้าคนที่ไม่ต้องการกลับใจใหม่

⁷ I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.

⁸หญิงคนใดที่มีเหรียญเงินสิบเหรียญ และเหรียญหนึ่งหายไป จะไม่จุดเทียนกวาดเรือนค้นหาให้ละเอียดจนกว่าจะพบหรือ

⁸ Or what woman, if she had ten drachma A drachma coin was worth about 2 days wages for an agricultural laborer. coins, if she lost one drachma coin, wouldn’t light a lamp, sweep the house, and seek diligently until she found it?

⁹เมื่อพบแล้ว จึงเชิญเหล่ามิตรสหายและเพื่อนบ้านให้มาพร้อมกัน พูดว่า `จงยินดีกับข้าพเจ้าเถิด เพราะข้าพเจ้าได้พบเหรียญเงินที่หายไปนั้นแล้ว'

⁹ When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.’

¹⁰เช่นนั้นแหละ เราบอกท่านทั้งหลายว่า จะมีความปรีดีในพวกทูตสวรรค์ของพระเจ้า เพราะคนบาปคนเดียวที่กลับใจใหม่"

¹⁰ Even so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting.”

¹¹พระองค์ตรัสว่า "ชายคนหนึ่งมีบุตรชายสองคน

¹¹He said, “A certain man had two sons.

¹²บุตรคนน้อยพูดกับบิดาว่า `บิดาเจ้าข้า ขอทรัพย์ที่ตกเป็นส่วนของข้าพเจ้าเถิด' บิดาจึงแบ่งสมบัติให้แก่บุตรทั้งสอง

¹² The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of your property.’ He divided his livelihood between them.

¹³ต่อมาไม่กี่วัน บุตรคนน้อยนั้นก็รวบรวมทรัพย์ทั้งหมดแล้วไปเมืองไกล และได้ผลาญทรัพย์ของตนที่นั่นด้วยการเป็นนักเลง

¹³ Not many days after, the younger son gathered all of this together and traveled into a far country. There he wasted his property with riotous living.

¹⁴เมื่อใช้ทรัพย์หมดแล้วก็เกิดกันดารอาหารยิ่งนักทั่วเมืองนั้น เขาจึงเริ่มขัดสน

¹⁴ When he had spent all of it, there arose a severe famine in that country, and he began to be in need.

¹⁵เขาไปอาศัยอยู่กับชาวเมืองนั้นคนหนึ่ง และคนนั้นก็ใช้เขาไปเลี้ยงหมูที่ทุ่งนา

¹⁵ He went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.

¹⁶เขาใคร่จะได้อิ่มท้องด้วยฝักถั่วที่หมูกินนั้น แต่ไม่มีใครให้อะไรเขากิน

¹⁶ He wanted to fill his belly with the husks that the pigs ate, but no one gave him any.

¹⁷เมื่อเขารู้สำนึกตัวแล้วจึงพูดว่า `ลูกจ้างของบิดาเรามีมาก ยังมีอาหารกินอิ่มและเหลืออีก ส่วนเราจะมาตายเสียเพราะอดอาหาร

¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough to spare, and I’m dying with hunger!

¹⁸จำเราจะลุกขึ้นไปหาบิดาเรา และพูดกับท่านว่า "บิดาเจ้าข้า ข้าพเจ้าได้ผิดต่อสวรรค์และผิดต่อหน้าท่านด้วย

¹⁸ I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight.

¹⁹ข้าพเจ้าไม่สมควรจะได้ชื่อว่าเป็นลูกของท่านต่อไป ขอท่านให้ข้าพเจ้าเป็นเหมือนลูกจ้างของท่านคนหนึ่งเถิด"'

¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants.”’

²⁰แล้วเขาก็ลุกขึ้นไปหาบิดาของตน แต่เมื่อเขายังอยู่แต่ไกล บิดาแลเห็นเขาก็มีความเมตตา จึงวิ่งออกไปกอดคอจุบเขา

²⁰ “He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²¹ฝ่ายบุตรนั้นจึงกล่าวแก่บิดาว่า `บิดาเจ้าข้า ข้าพเจ้าได้บาปต่อสวรรค์และต่อสายตาของท่านด้วย ข้าพเจ้าไม่สมควรจะได้ชื่อว่าเป็นลูกของท่านอีกต่อไป'

²¹ The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²²แต่บิดาสั่งผู้รับใช้ของตนว่า `จงรีบไปเอาเสื้ออย่างดีที่สุดมาสวมให้เขา และเอาแหวนมาสวมนิ้วมือ กับเอารองเท้ามาสวมให้เขา

²² “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.

²³จงเอาลูกวัวอ้วนพีมาฆ่าเลี้ยงกัน เพื่อความรื่นเริงยินดีเถิด

²³ Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat, and celebrate;

²⁴เพราะว่าลูกของเราคนนี้ตายแล้ว แต่กลับเป็นอีก หายไปแล้ว แต่ได้พบกันอีก' เขาทั้งหลายต่างก็เริ่มมีความรื่นเริงยินดี

²⁴ for this, my son, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’ They began to celebrate.

²⁵ฝ่ายบุตรคนใหญ่นั้นกำลังอยู่ที่ทุ่งนา เมื่อเขากลับมาใกล้บ้านแล้วก็ได้ยินเสียงมโหรีและเต้นรำ

²⁵ “Now his elder son was in the field. As he came near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

²⁶เขาจึงเรียกผู้รับใช้คนหนึ่งมาถามว่า เขาทำอะไรกัน

²⁶ He called one of the servants to him, and asked what was going on.

²⁷ผู้รับใช้จึงตอบเขาว่า `น้องของท่านกลับมาแล้ว และบิดาได้ให้ฆ่าลูกวัวอ้วนพี เพราะได้ลูกกลับมาโดยสวัสดิภาพ'

²⁷ He said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and healthy.’

²⁸ฝ่ายพี่ชายก็โกรธไม่ยอมเข้าไป บิดาจึงออกมาชักชวนเขา

²⁸ But he was angry, and would not go in. Therefore his father came out, and begged him.

²⁹แต่เขาบอกบิดาว่า `ดูเถิด ข้าพเจ้าได้ปรนนิบัติท่านกี่ปีมาแล้ว และมิได้ละเมิดคำบัญชาของท่านสักข้อหนึ่งเลย แม้แต่เพียงลูกแพะสักตัวหนึ่งท่านก็ยังไม่เคยให้ข้าพเจ้า เพื่อจะเลี้ยงกันเป็นที่รื่นเริงยินดีกับเพื่อนฝูงของข้าพเจ้า

²⁹ But he answered his father, ‘Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.

³⁰แต่เมื่อลูกคนนี้ของท่าน ผู้ได้ผลาญสิ่งเลี้ยงชีพของท่านโดยคบหญิงโสเภณีมาแล้ว ท่านยังได้ฆ่าลูกวัวอ้วนพีเลี้ยงเขา'

³⁰ But when this, your son, came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’

³¹บิดาจึงตอบเขาว่า `ลูกเอ๋ย เจ้าอยู่กับเราเสมอ และสิ่งของทั้งหมดของเราก็เป็นของเจ้า

³¹ “He said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.

³²แต่สมควรที่เราจะรื่นเริงและยินดี เพราะน้องของเจ้าคนนี้ตายแล้ว แต่กลับเป็นขึ้นอีก หายไปแล้วแต่ได้พบกันอีก'"

³² But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this, your brother, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’”
