¹อยู่มาคราวนั้น มีรับสั่งจากซีซาร์ ออกัสตัส ให้จดทะเบียนสำมะโนครัวทั่วทั้งแผ่นดิน

¹Now it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.

²(นี่เป็นครั้งแรกที่ได้จดทะเบียนสำมะโนครัว เมื่อคีรินิอัสเป็นเจ้าเมืองซีเรีย)

²This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

³คนทั้งปวงต่างคนต่างได้ไปขึ้นทะเบียนยังเมืองของตน

³All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.

⁴ฝ่ายโยเซฟก็ขึ้นไปจากเมืองนาซาเร็ธแคว้นกาลิลีถึงเมืองของดาวิด ชื่อเบธเลเฮมแคว้นยูเดียด้วย (เพราะว่าเขาเป็นวงศ์วานและเชื้อสายของดาวิด)

⁴Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;

⁵เขาได้ไปกับมารีย์ที่เขาได้หมั้นไว้แล้ว เพื่อจะขึ้นทะเบียนและนางมีครรภ์

⁵to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.

⁶เมื่อเขาทั้งสองยังอยู่ที่นั่น ก็ถึงเวลาที่มารีย์จะประสูติบุตร

⁶It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth.

⁷นางจึงประสูติบุตรชายหัวปี เอาผ้าอ้อมพันและวางไว้ในรางหญ้า เพราะว่าไม่มีที่ว่างให้เขาในโรงแรม

⁷She brought forth her firstborn son, and she wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.

⁸ในแถบนั้น มีคนเลี้ยงแกะอยู่ในทุ่งนา เฝ้าฝูงแกะของเขาในเวลากลางคืน

⁸There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.

⁹ดูเถิด มีทูตสวรรค์ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้ามาปรากฏแก่เขา และรัศมีขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าส่องล้อมรอบเขา และเขากลัวนัก

⁹Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

¹⁰ฝ่ายทูตสวรรค์องค์นั้นกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "อย่ากลัวเลย เพราะดูเถิด เรานำข่าวดีมายังท่านทั้งหลาย คือความปรีดียิ่งซึ่งจะมาถึงคนทั้งปวง

¹⁰The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.

¹¹เพราะว่าในวันนี้พระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของท่านทั้งหลาย คือพระคริสต์เจ้า มาบังเกิดที่เมืองดาวิด

¹¹For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

¹²นี่จะเป็นหมายสำคัญแก่ท่านทั้งหลาย คือท่านจะได้พบพระกุมารนั้นพันผ้าอ้อมนอนอยู่ในรางหญ้า"

¹²This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.”

¹³ทันใดนั้น มีชาวสวรรค์หมู่หนึ่งมาอยู่กับทูตสวรรค์องค์นั้นร่วมสรรเสริญพระเจ้าว่า

¹³Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying,

¹⁴"รัศมีภาพจงมีแด่พระเจ้าในที่สูงสุด และบนแผ่นดินโลกสันติสุขจงมีท่ามกลางมนุษย์ทั้งปวงซึ่งทรงโปรดปรานนั้น"

¹⁴“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”

¹⁵ต่อมาเมื่อทูตสวรรค์เหล่านั้นไปจากเขาขึ้นสู่สวรรค์แล้ว พวกเลี้ยงแกะได้พูดกันว่า "ให้เราไปยังเมืองเบธเลเฮม ดูเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นนั้น ซึ่งองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงแจ้งแก่เรา"

¹⁵It happened, when the angels went away from them into the sky, that the shepherds said one to another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

¹⁶เขาก็รีบไปแล้วพบนางมารีย์กับโยเซฟและพบพระกุมารนั้นนอนอยู่ในรางหญ้า

¹⁶They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.

¹⁷ครั้นเขาได้เห็นแล้ว จึงเล่าเรื่องซึ่งเขาได้ยินถึงพระกุมารนั้น

¹⁷When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.

¹⁸คนทั้งปวงที่ได้ยินก็ประหลาดใจด้วยเนื้อความที่คนเลี้ยงแกะได้บอกแก่เขา

¹⁸All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.

¹⁹ฝ่ายนางมารีย์ก็เก็บบรรดาสิ่งเหล่านี้ไว้ในใจ และรำพึงอยู่

¹⁹But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.

²⁰คนเลี้ยงแกะจึงกลับไปยกย่องสรรเสริญพระเจ้า เพราะเหตุการณ์ทั้งปวงซึ่งเขาได้ยินและได้เห็น ดังได้กล่าวไว้แก่เขาแล้ว

²⁰The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.

²¹ครั้นครบแปดวันแล้ว เป็นวันให้พระกุมารนั้นเข้าสุหนัต เขาจึงให้นามว่า เยซู ตามซึ่งทูตสวรรค์ได้กล่าวไว้ก่อนยังมิได้ปฏิสนธิในครรภ์

²¹When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

²²เมื่อวันทำพิธีชำระตัวของนางมารีย์ตามพระราชบัญญัติของโมเสสเสร็จลงแล้ว เขาทั้งหลายจึงนำพระกุมารไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็มจะถวายแด่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า

²²When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord

²³(ตามที่เขียนไว้แล้วในพระราชบัญญัติขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าว่า "บุตรชายทุกคนที่เบิกครรภ์ครั้งแรก จะได้เรียกว่าเป็นผู้บริสุทธิ์ถวายแด่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า")

²³(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), Exodus 13:2,12

²⁴และถวายเครื่องบูชาตามที่ได้ตรัสสั่งไว้แล้วในพระราชบัญญัติขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าคือ `นกเขาคู่หนึ่ง หรือนกพิราบหนุ่มสองตัว'

²⁴and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Leviticus 12:8

²⁵ดูเถิด มีชายคนหนึ่งในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มชื่อสิเมโอน เป็นคนชอบธรรมและเกรงกลัวพระเจ้า และคอยเวลาซึ่งพวกอิสราเอลจะได้รับความบรรเทาทุกข์ และพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ทรงสถิตกับท่าน

²⁵Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

²⁶พระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ได้ทรงสำแดงแก่ท่านว่า ท่านจะไม่ตายจนกว่าจะได้เห็นพระคริสต์ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า

²⁶It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. “Christ” (Greek) and “Messiah” (Hebrew) both mean “Anointed One”

²⁷สิเมโอนเข้าไปในพระวิหารโดยพระวิญญาณทรงนำ และเมื่อบิดามารดาได้นำพระกุมารเยซูเข้าไป เพื่อจะกระทำแก่พระกุมารตามธรรมเนียมแห่งพระราชบัญญัติ

²⁷He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,

²⁸สิเมโอนจึงอุ้มพระกุมาร และสรรเสริญพระเจ้าว่า

²⁸then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,

²⁹"ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า บัดนี้พระองค์ทรงให้ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ไปเป็นสุขตามพระดำรัสของพระองค์

²⁹“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;

³⁰เพราะว่าตาของข้าพระองค์ได้เห็นความรอดของพระองค์แล้ว

³¹ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงจัดเตรียมไว้ต่อหน้าบรรดาชนชาติทั้งหลาย

³²เป็นสว่างส่องแสงแก่คนต่างชาติและเป็นสง่าราศีของพวกอิสราเอล ชนชาติของพระองค์"

³²a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.”

³³ฝ่ายโยเซฟกับมารดาของพระกุมารก็ประหลาดใจ เพราะถ้อยคำซึ่งท่านได้กล่าวถึงพระกุมารนั้น

³³Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,

³⁴แล้วสิเมโอนก็อวยพรแก่เขา แล้วกล่าวแก่นางมารีย์มารดาของพระกุมารนั้นว่า "ดูก่อนท่าน ทรงตั้งพระกุมารนี้ไว้เป็นเหตุให้หลายคนในพวกอิสราเอลล้มลงหรือยกตั้งขึ้น และจะเป็นหมายสำคัญซึ่งคนปฏิเสธ

³⁴and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.

³⁵เพื่อความคิดในใจของคนเป็นอันมากจะได้ปรากฏแจ้ง (เออ ถึงจิตใจของท่านเองก็ยังจะถูกดาบแทงทะลุด้วย)"

³⁵Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

³⁶ยังมีผู้พยากรณ์หญิงคนหนึ่งชื่ออันนา บุตรสาวฟานูเอลในตระกูลอาเซอร์ นางเป็นคนชรามากแล้ว มีสามีตั้งแต่ยังเป็นสาวพรหมจารีอยู่ และอยู่ด้วยกันเจ็ดปี

³⁶There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

³⁷แล้วก็เป็นม่ายมาจนถึงอายุแปดสิบสี่ปี นางมิได้ไปจากพระวิหารเลย อยู่รับใช้พระเจ้าด้วยการถืออดอาหารและอธิษฐาน ทั้งกลางวันกลางคืน

³⁷and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.

³⁸ในขณะนั้นผู้หญิงคนนี้ก็เข้ามาขอบพระคุณองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเช่นกัน และกล่าวถึงพระกุมารให้คนทั้งปวงที่คอยการทรงไถ่กรุงเยรูซาเล็มฟัง

³⁸Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

³⁹ครั้นโยเซฟกับนางมารีย์ได้กระทำการทั้งปวงตามพระราชบัญญัติขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเสร็จแล้ว จึงกลับไปถึงนาซาเร็ธเมืองของตนในแคว้นกาลิลี

³⁹When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

⁴⁰พระกุมารนั้นก็เจริญวัย และเข้มแข็งขึ้นฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณ ประกอบด้วยสติปัญญา และพระคุณของพระเจ้าอยู่กับท่าน

⁴⁰The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

⁴¹ฝ่ายบิดามารดาเคยขึ้นไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็มในการเลี้ยงเทศกาลปัสกาทุกปีๆ

⁴¹His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.

⁴²เมื่อพระกุมารมีพระชนมายุสิบสองพรรษา เขาทั้งหลายก็ขึ้นไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็มตามธรรมเนียมการเลี้ยงนั้น

⁴²When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast,

⁴³เมื่อครบกำหนดวันเลี้ยงกันแล้ว ขณะเขากำลังกลับไป พระกุมารเยซูก็ยังค้างอยู่ในกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม ฝ่ายโยเซฟกับมารดาของพระองค์ก็ไม่รู้

⁴³and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it,

⁴⁴แต่เพราะเขาทั้งสองคิดว่าพระกุมารนั้นอยู่ในหมู่คนที่มาด้วยกัน เขาจึงเดินทางไปได้วันหนึ่ง แล้วหาพระกุมารในหมู่ญาติพี่น้องและพวกคนที่รู้จักกัน

⁴⁴but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

⁴⁵เมื่อไม่พบ พวกเขาจึงกลับไปเที่ยวหาพระองค์ที่กรุงเยรูซาเล็ม

⁴⁵When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.

⁴⁶ต่อมาครั้นหามาได้สามวันแล้ว จึงพบพระกุมารนั่งอยู่ในพระวิหารท่ามกลางพวกอาจารย์ ฟังและไต่ถามพวกอาจารย์เหล่านั้นอยู่

⁴⁶It happened after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.

⁴⁷คนทั้งปวงที่ได้ยินก็ประหลาดใจในสติปัญญาและคำตอบของพระกุมารนั้น

⁴⁷All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

⁴⁸ฝ่ายเขาทั้งสองเมื่อเห็นพระกุมารแล้วก็ประหลาดใจ มารดาจึงถามพระกุมารว่า "ลูกเอ๋ย ทำไมจึงทำแก่เราอย่างนี้ ดูเถิด พ่อกับแม่แสวงหาเป็นทุกข์นัก"

⁴⁸When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.”

⁴⁹พระกุมารจึงตอบเขาทั้งสองว่า "ท่านเที่ยวหาฉันทำไม ท่านไม่ทราบหรือว่า ฉันต้องกระทำพระราชกิจแห่งพระบิดาของฉัน"

⁴⁹He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

⁵⁰เขาทั้งสองก็ไม่เข้าใจคำซึ่งพระกุมารกล่าวแก่เขา

⁵⁰They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them.

⁵¹แล้วพระกุมารก็ลงไปกับเขาไปยังเมืองนาซาเร็ธ อยู่ใต้ความปกครองของเขา มารดาก็เก็บเรื่องราวทั้งหมดนั้นไว้ในใจ

⁵¹And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

⁵²พระเยซูก็ได้จำเริญขึ้นในด้านสติปัญญา ในด้านร่างกาย และเป็นที่ชอบจำเพาะพระเจ้า และต่อหน้าคนทั้งปวงด้วย

⁵²And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
