¹คราวนั้นเมื่อฝูงชนพากันมามากมายและไม่มีอาหารกิน พระเยซูจึงทรงเรียกเหล่าสาวกของพระองค์มาตรัสแก่เขาว่า

¹In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them,

²"เราสงสารคนเหล่านี้ เพราะเขาค้างอยู่กับเราได้สามวันแล้วและไม่มีอาหารจะกิน

² “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three days, and have nothing to eat.

³ถ้าเราจะให้เขากลับไปบ้านเมื่อยังอดอาหารอยู่ เขาจะหิวโหยสิ้นแรงตามทาง เพราะว่าบางคนมาไกล"

³ If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way.”

⁴เหล่าสาวกของพระองค์จึงทูลตอบพระองค์ว่า "ในถิ่นทุรกันดารนี้จะหาอาหารให้เขากินอิ่มได้ที่ไหน"

⁴His disciples answered him, “From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?”

⁵พระองค์ตรัสถามเขาว่า "พวกท่านมีขนมปังกี่ก้อน" เขาทูลว่า "มีเจ็ดก้อน"

⁵He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.”

⁶พระองค์จึงตรัสสั่งประชาชนให้นั่งลงที่พื้นดิน แล้วทรงรับขนมปังเจ็ดก้อนนั้น ทรงขอบพระคุณ แล้วจึงทรงหักส่งให้เหล่าสาวกให้เขาแจก เหล่าสาวกจึงแจกให้ประชาชน

⁶He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.

⁷และเขามีปลาเล็กๆอยู่บ้าง พระองค์จึงขอบพระคุณ แล้วสั่งให้เอาปลานั้นแจกด้วย

⁷They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.

⁸คนทั้งปวงได้รับประทานจนอิ่มและเศษอาหารที่เหลือนั้นเขาเก็บได้เจ็ดกระบุง

⁸They ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over.

⁹คนที่รับประทานนั้นมีประมาณสี่พัน แล้วพระองค์ตรัสสั่งให้เขาไป

⁹Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.

¹⁰ในทันใดนั้น พระองค์ก็เสด็จลงเรือกับเหล่าสาวกของพระองค์ มาถึงเขตเมืองดาลมานูธา

¹⁰Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the region of Dalmanutha.

¹¹พวกฟาริสีออกมาและเริ่มโต้เถียงกับพระองค์ ขอพระองค์แสดงหมายสำคัญจากฟ้าสวรรค์ หมายจะทดลองพระองค์

¹¹The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, and testing him.

¹²พระองค์ทรงถอนพระทัยแล้วตรัสว่า "คนยุคนี้แสวงหาหมายสำคัญทำไม เราบอกความจริงแก่เจ้าทั้งหลายว่า จะไม่โปรดให้หมายสำคัญแก่คนยุคนี้"

¹²He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, “Why does this generation The word translated “generation” here (genea) could also be translated “people,” “race,” or “family.” seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

¹³แล้วพระองค์เสด็จไปจากเขา และลงเรือข้ามฟากไปอีก

¹³He left them, and again entering into the boat, departed to the other side.

¹⁴ฝ่ายเหล่าสาวกลืมเอาขนมปังไป และในเรือเขามีขนมปังอยู่ก้อนเดียวเท่านั้น

¹⁴They forgot to take bread; and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.

¹⁵พระองค์ทรงกำชับเหล่าสาวกว่า "จงสังเกตและระวังเชื้อแห่งพวกฟาริสีและเชื้อแห่งเฮโรดให้ดี"

¹⁵He warned them, saying, “Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

¹⁶เหล่าสาวกจึงปรึกษากันว่า "เพราะเหตุที่เราไม่มีขนมปัง"

¹⁶They reasoned with one another, saying, “It’s because we have no bread.”

¹⁷เมื่อพระเยซูทรงทราบจึงตรัสแก่เขาว่า "เหตุไฉนพวกท่านจึงปรึกษากันและกันถึงเรื่องไม่มีขนมปัง ท่านยังไม่รู้และไม่เข้าใจหรือ ใจของท่านยังแข็งกระด้างหรือ

¹⁷Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, “Why do you reason that it’s because you have no bread? Don’t you perceive yet, neither understand? Is your heart still hardened?

¹⁸มีตาแล้วยังไม่เห็นหรือ มีหูแล้วยังไม่ได้ยินหรือ ท่านทั้งหลายจำไม่ได้หรือ

¹⁸ Having eyes, don’t you see? Having ears, don’t you hear? Don’t you remember?

¹⁹เมื่อเราหักขนมปังห้าก้อนให้แก่คนห้าพันคนนั้น ท่านทั้งหลายเก็บเศษที่เหลือนั้นได้กี่กระบุง" เขาทูลตอบพระองค์ว่า "ได้สิบสองกระบุง"

¹⁹ When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Twelve.”

²⁰"เมื่อแจกขนมปังเจ็ดก้อนให้แก่คนสี่พันคนนั้น ท่านทั้งหลายเก็บเศษที่เหลือได้กี่กระบุง" เขาทูลตอบว่า "ได้เจ็ดกระบุง"

²⁰ “When the seven loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Seven.”

²¹พระองค์จึงตรัสแก่เขาว่า "เป็นไฉนพวกท่านยังไม่เข้าใจ"

²¹He asked them, “Don’t you understand, yet?”

²²พระองค์จึงไปยังเมืองเบธไซดา เขาพาชายตาบอดคนหนึ่งมาหาพระองค์ ทูลอ้อนวอนขอพระองค์ให้โปรดถูกต้องคนนั้น

²²He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him.

²³พระองค์ได้ทรงจูงมือคนตาบอดออกไปนอกหมู่บ้าน เมื่อได้ทรงบ้วนน้ำลายลงที่ตาคนนั้น และวางพระหัตถ์บนเขาแล้ว พระองค์จึงตรัสถามเขาว่า เขาเห็นสิ่งใดบ้างหรือไม่

²³He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.

²⁴คนนั้นเงยหน้าดูแล้วทูลว่า "ข้าพระองค์แลเห็นคนเหมือนต้นไม้เดินไปเดินมา"

²⁴He looked up, and said, “I see men; for I see them like trees walking.”

²⁵พระองค์จึงวางพระหัตถ์บนตาเขาอีก แล้วให้เขาเงยหน้าดู และตาของเขาก็หายเป็นปกติ แลเห็นคนทั้งหลายได้ชัดเจน

²⁵Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.

²⁶พระองค์จึงตรัสสั่งคนนั้นให้กลับตรงไปยังบ้านของตน แล้วกำชับว่า "อย่าเข้าไปในหมู่บ้าน หรือเล่าให้ใครในหมู่บ้านนั้นฟังเลย"

²⁶He sent him away to his house, saying, “Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”

²⁷พระเยซูได้เสด็จกับเหล่าสาวกของพระองค์ ออกไปยังหมู่บ้านแขวงซีซารียา ฟีลิปปี เมื่ออยู่ตามทางนั้น พระองค์ตรัสถามเหล่าสาวกว่า "คนทั้งหลายพูดกันว่าเราเป็นผู้ใด"

²⁷Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?”

²⁸เขาทูลตอบว่า "เขาว่าเป็นยอห์นผู้ให้รับบัพติศมา แต่บางคนว่าเป็นเอลียาห์ และคนอื่นว่าเป็นคนหนึ่งในพวกศาสดาพยากรณ์"

²⁸They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others: one of the prophets.”

²⁹พระองค์จึงตรัสถามเขาว่า "ฝ่ายพวกท่านเล่าว่าเราเป็นผู้ใด" เปโตรทูลตอบพระองค์ว่า "พระองค์ทรงเป็นพระคริสต์"

²⁹He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

³⁰แล้วพระองค์ทรงกำชับห้ามเหล่าสาวกไม่ให้บอกผู้ใดถึงพระองค์

³⁰He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.

³¹พระองค์จึงทรงเริ่มกล่าวสอนสาวกว่า บุตรมนุษย์จะต้องทนทุกข์ทรมานหลายประการ พวกผู้ใหญ่ พวกปุโรหิตใหญ่ และพวกธรรมาจารย์จะปฏิเสธพระองค์ และพระองค์จะต้องถูกประหารชีวิต แต่ในวันที่สามพระองค์จะทรงเป็นขึ้นมาใหม่

³¹He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

³²คำเหล่านี้พระองค์ตรัสโดยเปิดเผย ฝ่ายเปโตรจึงจับพระองค์ แล้วเริ่มทูลห้ามพระองค์

³²He spoke to them openly. Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

³³พระองค์จึงทรงหันพระพักตร์ดูเหล่าสาวกของพระองค์ แล้วทรงติเปโตรว่า "อ้ายซาตาน จงถอยไปข้างหลังเรา เพราะเจ้ามิได้คิดตามพระดำริของพระเจ้า แต่ตามความคิดของมนุษย์"

³³But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”

³⁴และเมื่อพระองค์ทรงร้องเรียกประชาชนกับเหล่าสาวกของพระองค์ให้เข้ามาแล้ว จึงตรัสแก่เขาว่า "ถ้าผู้ใดจะใคร่ตามเรามา ให้ผู้นั้นเอาชนะตัวเอง และรับกางเขนของตนแบกและตามเรามา

³⁴He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

³⁵เพราะว่าผู้ใดใคร่จะเอาชีวิตรอด ผู้นั้นจะเสียชีวิต แต่ผู้ใดจะเสียชีวิตเพราะเห็นแก่เราและข่าวประเสริฐ ผู้นั้นจะได้ชีวิตรอด

³⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

³⁶เพราะถ้าผู้ใดจะได้สิ่งของสิ้นทั้งโลก แต่ต้องสูญเสียจิตวิญญาณของตน ผู้นั้นจะได้ประโยชน์อะไร

³⁶ For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

³⁷เพราะว่าผู้นั้นจะนำอะไรไปแลกเอาจิตวิญญาณของตนกลับคืนมา

³⁷ For what will a man give in exchange for his life?

³⁸เหตุฉะนั้น ถ้าผู้ใดมีความอายเพราะเราและถ้อยคำของเราในชั่วอายุนี้ ซึ่งประกอบด้วยการล่วงประเวณีและการผิดบาป บุตรมนุษย์ก็จะมีความอายเพราะผู้นั้น ในเวลาเมื่อพระองค์จะเสด็จมาด้วยสง่าราศีแห่งพระบิดาของพระองค์ และด้วยเหล่าทูตสวรรค์ผู้บริสุทธิ์"

³⁸ For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
