¹ประชาชนทั้งปวงได้ชุมนุมพร้อมหน้ากันที่ถนนซึ่งอยู่หน้าประตูน้ำ และเขาบอกเอสราธรรมาจารย์ให้นำหนังสือพระราชบัญญัติของโมเสส ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบัญชาแก่อิสราเอลนั้นมา

¹All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that was before the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Yahweh had commanded to Israel.

²เอสราปุโรหิตได้นำพระราชบัญญัติมาหน้าชุมนุมชน ทั้งชายและหญิง และบรรดาผู้ที่ฟังเข้าใจได้ ณ วันต้นของเดือนที่เจ็ด

²Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.

³และท่านหันหน้าไปทางถนนซึ่งอยู่หน้าประตูน้ำ อ่านตั้งแต่เช้าตรู่จนเที่ยงวัน ต่อหน้าผู้ชายผู้หญิงกับบรรดาผู้ที่ฟังเข้าใจได้ และประชาชนก็ตะแคงหูฟังหนังสือพระราชบัญญัติ

³He read therein before the broad place that was before the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.

⁴เอสราธรรมาจารย์ยืนอยู่บนแท่นไม้ ซึ่งเขาทำไว้เพื่อการนี้ ข้างๆท่านมีมัททีธิยาห์ เชมา อานายาห์ อุรีอาห์ ฮิลคียาห์และมาอาสอาห์ยืนอยู่ข้างขวามือของท่าน กับมีเปดายาห์ มิชาเอล มัลคิยาห์ ฮาชูม ฮัชบัดดานาห์ เศคาริยาห์และเมชุลลามอยู่ข้างซ้ายมือของท่าน

⁴Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

⁵และเอสราได้เปิดหนังสือต่อสายตาของประชาชนทั้งปวง (เพราะท่านอยู่สูงกว่าประชาชนทั้งปวงนั้น) เมื่อท่านเปิดหนังสือประชาชนทั้งหมดก็ยืนขึ้น

⁵Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

⁶เอสราสรรเสริญพระเยโฮวาห์ พระเจ้าใหญ่ยิ่ง และประชาชนทั้งปวงตอบว่า "เอเมน เอเมน" พร้อมกับยกมือขึ้น และเขาทั้งหลายโน้มตัวลงนมัสการพระเยโฮวาห์ ซบหน้าลงถึงดิน

⁶and Ezra blessed Yahweh, the great God. All the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped Yahweh with their faces to the ground.

⁷อนึ่งเยชูอา บานี เชเรบิยาห์ ยามีน อักขูบ ชับเบธัย โฮดียาห์ มาอาเสอาห์ เคลิทา อาซาริยาห์ โยซาบาด ฮานัน เปไลยาห์และพวกคนเลวี ได้ช่วยประชาชนให้เข้าใจพระราชบัญญัติ ฝ่ายประชาชนก็ยังอยู่ในที่ของตน

⁷Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stayed in their place.

⁸และเขาทั้งหลายอ่านจากหนังสือ จากพระราชบัญญัติของพระเจ้าเป็นตอนๆ และเขาก็แปลความ ประชาชนจึงเข้าใจข้อความที่อ่านนั้น

⁸They read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.

⁹และเนหะมีย์ที่เป็นผู้ว่าราชการ และเอสราปุโรหิตและธรรมาจารย์ และคนเลวีผู้สอนประชาชน ได้พูดกับประชาชนทั้งปวงว่า "วันนี้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์แด่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลาย อย่าคร่ำครวญหรือร้องไห้" เพราะประชาชนได้ร้องไห้เมื่อเขาได้ยินถ้อยคำของพระราชบัญญัติ

⁹Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, “This day is holy to Yahweh your God. Don’t mourn, nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.

¹⁰แล้วท่านพูดกับเขาทั้งหลายว่า "ไปเถิด ไปรับประทานไขมัน และดื่มน้ำหวาน และส่งส่วนอาหารไปให้คนที่ไม่มีอะไรเตรียมไว้ เพราะว่าวันนี้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์แด่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา อย่าโศกเศร้าเลย เพราะความชื่นบานของตนในพระเยโฮวาห์เป็นกำลังของท่าน"

¹⁰Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved; for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.”

¹¹บรรดาคนเลวีจึงให้ประชาชนทั้งปวงเงียบ กล่าวว่า "จงนิ่งเสีย เพราะวันนี้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์ อย่าทุกข์โศกเลย"

¹¹So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, “Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be grieved.”

¹²และประชาชนทั้งปวงจึงไปกินและดื่มและส่งส่วนอาหาร เปรมปรีดิ์กันเป็นที่ยิ่ง เพราะเขาทั้งหลายเข้าใจถ้อยคำซึ่งประกาศให้เขาฟังนั้น

¹²All the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.

¹³ณ วันที่สอง ประมุขของบรรพบุรุษแห่งประชาชนทั้งปวง พร้อมกับบรรดาปุโรหิตและคนเลวีมาหาเอสราธรรมาจารย์พร้อมกัน เพื่อจะศึกษาถ้อยคำของพระราชบัญญัติ

¹³On the second day were gathered together the heads of fathers’ households of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, to Ezra the scribe, even to give attention to the words of the law.

¹⁴และเขาเห็นเขียนไว้ในพระราชบัญญัติว่า พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงบัญชาโดยทางโมเสสว่า ประชาชนอิสราเอลควรจะอยู่เพิงระหว่างเทศกาลเลี้ยงในเดือนที่เจ็ด

¹⁴They found written in the law, how that Yahweh had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;

¹⁵และเขาควรจะประกาศและป่าวร้องในหัวเมืองทั้งปวง และในเยรูซาเล็มว่า "จงออกไปที่ภูเขา และนำกิ่งมะกอกเทศ กิ่งไม้สน กิ่งต้นน้ำมันเขียว ใบอินทผลัม และกิ่งไม้ใบดกอื่นๆ เพื่อทำเพิง ดังที่ได้เขียนไว้"

¹⁵and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, and branches of wild olive, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.”

¹⁶ประชาชนจึงออกไป เอากิ่งไม้เหล่านั้นมาและทำเพิงสำหรับตัวต่างอยู่บนหลังคาบ้านของตน และตามลานบ้านของตน และในลานพระนิเวศของพระเจ้า และในถนนที่ประตูน้ำ และในถนนที่ประตูเอฟราอิม

¹⁶So the people went out, and brought them, and made themselves booths, everyone on the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of God’s house, and in the broad place of the water gate, and in the broad place of the gate of Ephraim.

¹⁷และชุมนุมชนทั้งปวง ผู้ได้กลับมาจากการเป็นเชลยได้ทำเพิงและพักอยู่ในเพิง เขามีความเปรมปรีดิ์ยิ่งนัก เพราะตั้งแต่สมัยของเยชูอาบุตรชายนูนถึงวันนั้นประชาชนอิสราเอลไม่ได้กระทำเลย

¹⁷All the assembly of those who had come again out of the captivity made booths, and lived in the booths; for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.

¹⁸และทุกวันท่านอ่านจากหนังสือพระราชบัญญัติของพระเจ้า ตั้งแต่วันแรกจนวันสุดท้าย เขาถือเทศกาลเลี้ยงอยู่เจ็ดวัน และในวันที่แปดมีการประชุมอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ตามระเบียบปฏิบัติ

¹⁸Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.
