¹แล้วบรรดาชุมนุมชนนั้นก็ร้องลั่นขึ้นมา ประชาชนร้องไห้ในคืนวันนั้น

¹All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

²บรรดาคนอิสราเอลได้บ่นว่าโมเสสและอาโรน ชุมนุมชนทั้งหมดกล่าวแก่ท่านว่า "ให้เราตายเสียที่แผ่นดินอียิปต์ หรือให้เราตายเสียที่ถิ่นทุรกันดารนี้ก็ดีกว่า

²All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!

³พระเยโฮวาห์นำเราเข้ามาในประเทศนี้ให้ตายด้วยดาบทำไมเล่า ลูกเมียของเราต้องตกเป็นเหยื่อ ที่เราจะกลับไปอียิปต์ไม่ดีกว่าหรือ"

³Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: wouldn’t it be better for us to return into Egypt?”

⁴เขาพูดแก่กันและกันว่า "ให้เราตั้งคนหนึ่งขึ้นเป็นหัวหน้าแล้วกลับไปยังอียิปต์เถิด"

⁴They said one to another, “Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.”

⁵โมเสสกับอาโรนได้ซบหน้าลงถึงพื้นดินต่อหน้าที่ประชุมทั้งหมดของชุมนุมชนอิสราเอล

⁵Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

⁶และโยชูวาบุตรชายนูนกับคาเลบบุตรชายเยฟุนเนห์ เป็นผู้ที่ได้ร่วมไปสอดแนมที่แผ่นดินนั้น ได้ฉีกเสื้อผ้าของตน

⁶Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes:

⁷และกว่าวแก่บรรดาชุมนุมชนอิสราเอลว่า "แผ่นดินที่เราได้เที่ยวสอดแนมดูตลอดนั้นเป็นแผ่นดินที่ดีเหลือเกิน

⁷and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.

⁸ถ้าพระเยโฮวาห์พอพระทัยในพวกเรา พระองค์จะทรงนำเราเข้าไปในแผ่นดินนี้ และทรงประทานแก่เรา เป็นแผ่นดินที่มีน้ำนมและน้ำผึ้งไหลบริบูรณ์

⁸If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey.

⁹ขอแต่อย่าให้พวกเรากบฏต่อพระเยโฮวาห์เท่านั้น อย่ากลัวชาวแผ่นดินนั้น เพราะเขาทั้งหลายเป็นขนมของเราแล้ว ร่มฤทธิ์ของเขาก็ศูนย์ไปแล้ว พระเยโฮวาห์สถิตฝ่ายเรา อย่ากลัวเขาเลย"

⁹Only don’t rebel against Yahweh, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is removed from over them, and Yahweh is with us. Don’t fear them.”

¹⁰แต่ชุมนุมชนทั้งหมดนั้นพูดกันว่าให้เอาก้อนหินขว้างเขาเสีย ขณะนั้นสง่าราศีของพระเยโฮวาห์ปรากฏที่พลับพลาแห่งชุมนุมต่อหน้าบรรดาคนอิสราเอล

¹⁰But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. The glory of Yahweh appeared in the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.

¹¹และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "ชนชาตินี้จะสบประมาทเรานานสักเท่าใด แม้ว่าเราได้กระทำหมายสำคัญต่างๆท่ามกลางเขามาแล้ว เขาทั้งหลายจะไม่เชื่อเรานานเท่าใด

¹¹Yahweh said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?

¹²เราจะประหารเขาเสียด้วยโรคร้ายและตัดเขาเสียจากการสืบมรดก เราจะกระทำให้เจ้าเป็นประเทศใหญ่โตและแข็งแรงกว่าเขาอีก"

¹²I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”

¹³แต่โมเสสได้กราบทูลพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "ชาวอียิปต์จะได้ยินเรื่องนี้ (เพราะพระองค์ทรงพาชาตินี้ออกมาจากท่ามกลางเขาด้วยฤทธานุภาพของพระองค์)

¹³Moses said to Yahweh, “Then the Egyptians will hear it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them;

¹⁴ชาวอียิปต์จะเล่าความนั้นแก่ชาวประเทศนี้ ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ เขาทั้งหลายได้ยินว่าพระองค์สถิตท่ามกลางชนชาตินี้ ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ เขาได้เห็นพระพักตร์ของพระองค์ เมฆของพระองค์ตั้งอยู่เหนือเขาทั้งหลาย พระองค์ทรงนำเขาในเวลากลางวันด้วยเสาเมฆ และในกลางคืนด้วยเสาเพลิง

¹⁴and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Yahweh are in the midst of this people; for you Yahweh are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.

¹⁵ถ้าพระองค์จะทรงประหารชนชาตินี้ดุจคนๆเดียว ประเทศทั้งหลายที่ได้ยินกิตติศัพท์ถึงพระองค์จะพูดกันว่า

¹⁵Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

¹⁶`เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ไม่สามารถพาชนชาตินี้ไปถึงแผ่นดินที่พระองค์ทรงปฏิญาณไว้แก่เขานั้นไม่ได้ พระองค์จึงทรงประหารเขาเสียที่ในถิ่นทุรกันดาร'

¹⁶‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’

¹⁷บัดนี้ข้าพระองค์ทูลวิงวอน ขอพระองค์ทรงบันดาลให้ฤทธิ์อำนาจขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าให้ใหญ่ยิ่งดังพระสัญญาที่ว่า

¹⁷Now please let the power of the Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” be great, according as you have spoken, saying,

¹⁸`พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระพิโรธช้า ทรงอุดมในความเมตตา ทรงโปรดยกโทษความชั่วช้าและให้อภัยการละเมิด แต่ถือว่าไม่มีโทษหามิได้ ให้โทษเพราะความชั่วช้าของบิดาตกทอดไปถึงลูกหลานสามชั่วสี่ชั่วอายุ'

¹⁸‘Yahweh is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

¹⁹ขอทรงประทานอภัยความชั่วช้าของชนชาตินี้ตามความยิ่งใหญ่แห่งความเมตตาของพระองค์ ดังที่พระองค์ทรงประทานอภัยชนชาตินี้ตั้งแต่อียิปต์จนบัดนี้"

¹⁹Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and according as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

²⁰แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์จึงตรัสว่า "เราให้อภัยตามคำของเจ้า

²⁰Yahweh said, “I have pardoned according to your word:

²¹แต่แท้จริง เรามีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด และบรรดาโลกจะเต็มไปด้วยสง่าราศีของพระเยโฮวาห์แน่ฉันใด

²¹but in very deed, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Yahweh;

²²คนทั้งหลายที่ได้เห็นสง่าราศีของเรา และได้เห็นการอัศจรรย์ต่างๆที่เราได้กระทำในอียิปต์และในถิ่นทุรกันดาร และยังได้ทดลองเรามาตั้งสิบครั้ง และยังมิได้ฟังเสียงของเรา

²²because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;

²³คนเหล่านี้จะมิได้เห็นแผ่นดินที่เราปฏิญาณไว้กับปู่ยาตายายของเขาฉันนั้น คนทั้งปวงที่สบประมาทเราจะไม่ได้เห็นแผ่นดินนั้นสักคนเดียว

²³surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it:

²⁴แต่ส่วนคาเลบผู้รับใช้ของเรา เพราะมีจิตใจต่างกันและได้ตามเรามาอย่างเต็มที่ เราก็จะได้นำเขาไปถึงแผ่นดินที่เขาได้ไปมาและเชื้อสายของเขาจะได้กรรมสิทธิ์เมืองนั้น

²⁴but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went; and his seed shall possess it.

²⁵(พวกอามาเลขและพวกคานาอันอยู่ที่หว่างเขา) พรุ่งนี้เจ้าจงกลับไปในถิ่นทุรกันดารตามทางถึงทะเลแดง"

²⁵Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley: tomorrow turn, and go into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds .”

²⁶พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสและอาโรนว่า

²⁶Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

²⁷"เราจะทนชุมนุมชนชั่วร้ายนี้บ่นต่อเรานานสักเท่าใด เราได้ยินเสียงบ่นของคนอิสราเอลซึ่งเขาบ่นว่าเรา

²⁷“How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

²⁸เจ้าจงกล่าวแก่เขาว่า พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า `เรามีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด เราจะกระทำสิ่งที่เจ้าทั้งหลายบ่นให้เราได้ยินแก่เจ้าฉันนั้น

²⁸Tell them, ‘As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you:

²⁹ซากศพของเจ้าจะตกหล่นอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารนี้ จำนวนคนทั้งหมดของเจ้านับตั้งแต่อายุยี่สิบปีขึ้นไป ผู้ใดที่บ่นว่าเรา

²⁹your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,

³⁰จะไม่มีสักคนหนึ่งที่มาถึงแผ่นดินที่เราปฏิญาณว่าจะให้เจ้าอาศัยอยู่ เว้นแต่คาเลบบุตรชายเยฟุนเนห์และโยชูวาบุตรชายนูน

³⁰surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

³¹แต่ลูกเล็กที่เจ้าทั้งหลายว่าจะเป็นเหยื่อนั้นเราจะพาเขาทั้งหลายเข้าไป และเขาจะรู้จักแผ่นดินที่เจ้าทั้งหลายได้สบประมาท

³¹But your little ones, that you said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.

³²ส่วนเจ้าทั้งหลาย ศพของเจ้าจะตกหล่นอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารนี้

³²But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.

³³ลูกหลานของเจ้าทั้งหลายจะพเนจรอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารถึงสี่สิบปี เขาจะทนโทษการเล่นชู้ของเจ้า จนกว่าจำนวนซากศพของเจ้าจะอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารนี้ครบ

³³Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.

³⁴ตามจำนวนวันที่เจ้าเข้าไปสอดแนมในแผ่นดินนั้นซึ่งมีสี่สิบวัน วันหนึ่งจะเป็นปีหนึ่ง เจ้าทั้งหลายจะรับโทษความชั่วช้าของเจ้าอยู่สี่สิบปี เจ้าทั้งหลายจะทราบถึงการฝ่าฝืนคำสัญญาของเรา

³⁴After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’

³⁵เราผู้เป็นพระเยโฮวาห์ได้ลั่นวาจาแล้ว เราจะกระทำดังนั้นแก่บรรดาชุมนุมชนที่ชั่วร้ายซึ่งร่วมกันคิดต่อสู้เรา เขาจะสิ้นสุดลงในถิ่นทุรกันดาร เขาจะตายอยู่ที่นั่น"

³⁵I, Yahweh, have spoken, surely this will I do to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”

³⁶คนที่โมเสสใช้ไปสอดแนมที่แผ่นดิน ผู้ที่กลับมาเล่าความใส่ร้ายแผ่นดินนั้น ซึ่งกระทำให้บรรดาชุมนุมชนบ่นว่าโมเสส

³⁶The men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,

³⁷คนที่มารายงานความร้ายเรื่องแผ่นดินนั้นได้ตายเสียด้วยโรคภัยต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์

³⁷even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Yahweh.

³⁸แต่โยชูวาบุตรชายนูน และคาเลบบุตรชายเยฟุนเนห์ในหมู่คนที่ไปสอดแนมที่แผ่นดินยังมีชีวิตอยู่

³⁸But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.

³⁹และโมเสสเล่าข้อความนี้ให้คนอิสราเอลทั้งหมดฟัง ประชาชนก็ร้องไห้โศกเศร้ายิ่งนัก

³⁹Moses told these words to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

⁴⁰และคนทั้งปวงได้ลุกขึ้นแต่เช้า ขึ้นไปยังที่สูงบนภูเขากล่าวว่า "ดูเถิด เราทั้งหลายมาอยู่ที่นี่แล้ว เราจะเข้าไปยังที่ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสัญญาไว้ เพราะเราได้กระทำผิดแล้ว"

⁴⁰They rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place which Yahweh has promised: for we have sinned.”

⁴¹แต่โมเสสกล่าวว่า "เหตุไฉนท่านขัดขืนพระดำรัสของพระเยโฮวาห์ การนี้จะไม่สำเร็จ

⁴¹Moses said, “Why now do you disobey the commandment of Yahweh, since it shall not prosper?

⁴²อย่าขึ้นไปเลย เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์มิได้อยู่ท่ามกลางท่าน เกลือกว่าท่านทั้งหลายจะล้มตายอยู่ต่อหน้าศัตรู

⁴²Don’t go up, for Yahweh isn’t among you; that you not be struck down before your enemies.

⁴³เพราะคนอามาเลขและคนคานาอันอยู่ข้างหน้าท่าน ท่านจะล้มลงด้วยดาบ เพราะท่านได้หันกลับจากการตามพระเยโฮวาห์ พระเยโฮวาห์จะไม่สถิตท่ามกลางท่านทั้งหลาย"

⁴³For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and you shall fall by the sword: because you are turned back from following Yahweh, therefore Yahweh will not be with you.”

⁴⁴แต่เขาทั้งหลายยังบังอาจขึ้นไปที่ยังที่สูงบนเนินเขา แต่หีบพันธสัญญาแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์และโมเสสมิได้ออกจากค่าย

⁴⁴But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and Moses, didn’t depart out of the camp.

⁴⁵แล้วคนอามาเลขและคนคานาอันที่อยู่บนเนินเขานั้นได้ลงมาขับไล่เขาให้พ่ายแพ้จนไปถึงตำบลโฮรมาห์

⁴⁵Then the Amalekite came down, and the Canaanite who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down, even to Hormah.
