¹สุภาษิตของซาโลมอน โอรสของดาวิด กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอล

¹The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:

²เพื่อให้บรรลุปัญญาและคำสั่งสอน เพื่อให้เข้าใจถ้อยคำแห่งความเข้าใจ

²to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;

³เพื่อให้รับคำสั่งสอนในเรื่องสติปัญญา ในเรื่องความเที่ยงธรรม ความยุติธรรมและความเที่ยงตรง

³to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;

⁴เพื่อให้ความหยั่งรู้แก่คนเขลา ให้ความรู้และความเฉลียวฉลาดแก่คนหนุ่ม

⁴to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:

⁵ทั้งปราชญ์จะได้ยินและเพิ่มพูนการเรียนรู้ และคนที่มีความเข้าใจจะได้คำปรึกษาที่ฉลาด

⁵that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:

⁶เพื่อให้เข้าใจสุภาษิตและปริศนา ทั้งถ้อยคำของปราชญ์และปริศนาที่ลึกลับของเขา

⁶to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.

⁷ความยำเกรงพระเยโฮวาห์เป็นบ่อเกิดของความรู้ คนโง่ย่อมดูหมิ่นปัญญาและคำสั่งสอน

⁷The fear of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

⁸บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงฟังคำสั่งสอนของพ่อเจ้า และอย่าละทิ้งกฎเกณฑ์ของแม่เจ้า

⁸My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:

⁹เพราะทั้งสองนั้นจะเป็นมาลัยงามสวมศีรษะของเจ้า เป็นจี้ห้อยคอของเจ้า

⁹for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.

¹⁰บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย ถ้าคนบาปล่อชวนเจ้า อย่าได้ยอมตาม

¹¹ถ้าเขาว่า "มากับพวกเราเถิด ให้เราหมอบคอยเอาเลือดคน ให้เราซุ่มดักคนไร้ผิดเล่นเถิด

¹¹If they say, “Come with us, Let’s lay in wait for blood; let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;

¹²ให้เรากลืนเขาทั้งเป็นอย่างแดนผู้ตาย และกลืนเขาทั้งตัวอย่างคนเหล่านั้นที่ลงไปสู่ปากแดน

¹²let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. , and whole, like those who go down into the pit.

¹³เราจะพบของประเสริฐทุกอย่าง เราจะบรรจุเรือนของเราให้เต็มด้วยของที่ริบได้

¹³We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with spoil.

¹⁴จงเข้าส่วนกับพวกเรา เราทุกคนจะมีเงินถุงเดียวกัน"

¹⁴You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse.”

¹⁵บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย อย่าเดินในทางนั้นกับเขา จงยับยั้งเท้าของเจ้าจากวิถีของเขา

¹⁵My son, don’t walk in the way with them. Keep your foot from their path,

¹⁶เพราะว่าเท้าของเขาวิ่งไปหาความชั่วร้าย และเขารีบเร่งไปทำให้โลหิตตก

¹⁶for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

¹⁷เพราะที่จะขึงข่ายไว้ให้นกเห็น ก็ไร้ผล

¹⁸แต่คนเหล่านี้หมอบคอยโลหิตของตนเอง เขาซุ่มดักชีวิตของเขาเอง

¹⁸but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

¹⁹ทางของบรรดาผู้ที่หากำไรด้วยความทารุณโหดร้ายก็อย่างนี้แหละ คือมันย่อมคร่าเอาชีวิตของเจ้าของนั้นเอง

¹⁹So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

²⁰ปัญญาร้องเสียงดังอยู่ที่ถนน เธอเปล่งเสียงของเธอตามถนน

²⁰Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.

²¹เธอร้องออกมาที่ชุมนุมชนใหญ่สุด ที่ทางเข้าประตูเมือง เธอกล่าวถ้อยคำของเธออยู่ในเมืองว่า

²¹She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:

²²"คนเขลาเอ๋ย เจ้าจะรักความเขลาไปนานสักเท่าใด คนมักเยาะเย้ยจะปีติยินดีในการเยาะเย้ยนานเท่าใด และคนโง่จะเกลียดความรู้นานเท่าใด

²²“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?

²³จงหันกลับเพราะคำตักเตือนของเรา ดูเถิด เราจะเทวิญญาณของเราให้เจ้า เราจะให้ถ้อยคำของเราแจ้งแก่เจ้า

²³Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

²⁴เพราะเราได้เรียกแล้วและเจ้าปฏิเสธ เราเหยียดมือออกและไม่มีใครสนใจ

²⁴Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;

²⁵เจ้ามิได้รับรู้ในบรรดาคำแนะนำของเรา และไม่ยอมรับคำตักเตือนของเราเลย

²⁵but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;

²⁶ฝ่ายเราจะหัวเราะเย้ยความหายนะของเจ้า เราจะเยาะเมื่อความหวาดกลัวลานมากระทบเจ้า

²⁶I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;

²⁷เมื่อความหวาดกลัวของเจ้ามาถึงอย่างการรกร้างว่างเปล่า และความพินาศของเจ้ามาถึงอย่างลมบ้าหมู เมื่อความซึมเศร้าและความปวดร้าวมาถึงเจ้า

²⁷when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.

²⁸แล้วเขาจะทูลเรา แต่เราจะไม่ตอบ เขาจะแสวงหาเราอย่างขยันขันแข็ง แต่จะไม่พบเรา

²⁸Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

²⁹เพราะว่าเขาเกลียดความรู้ และไม่เลือกเอาความยำเกรงพระเยโฮวาห์

²⁹because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.

³⁰เขาไม่รับคำแนะนำของเราเลย แต่กลับดูหมิ่นคำตักเตือนของเราทั้งสิ้น

³⁰They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.

³¹เพราะฉะนั้นเขาจะกินผลแห่งทางของเขา และอิ่มด้วยกลวิธีของเขาเอง

³¹Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.

³²เพราะการหันกลับของคนโง่จะฆ่าเขา และความเจริญของคนโง่จะทำลายเขา

³²For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

³³แต่บุคคลผู้ฟังเราจะอยู่อย่างปลอดภัย เขาจะอยู่อย่างสุขสงบปราศจากความคิดพรั่นพรึงในความชั่วร้าย"

³³But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
