1ชื่อเสียงดีเป็นสิ่งควรเลือกยิ่งกว่าความมั่งคั่งมากมาย และซึ่งเป็นที่โปรดปรานก็ยิ่งกว่ามีเงินหรือทอง
1A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.
2คนมั่งคั่งและยากจนประชุมพร้อมกัน พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสร้างเขาทั้งสิ้น
2The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.
3คนหยั่งรู้เห็นอันตรายและซ่อนตัวของเขาเสีย แต่คนเขลาเดินเรื่อยไปและรับโทษ
3A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
4บำเหน็จของความถ่อมใจและความยำเกรงพระเยโฮวาห์ คือความมั่งคั่ง เกียรติและชีวิต
4The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.
5หนามและบ่วงอยู่ในทางของคนตลบตะแลง บุคคลที่ระแวดระวังจิตใจตนเองจะอยู่ไกลเสียจากสิ่งเหล่านี้
5Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
6จงฝึกเด็กในทางที่เขาควรจะเดินไป และเมื่อเขาชราแล้ว เขาจะไม่พรากจากทางนั้น
6Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
7คนมั่งคั่งปกครองเหนือคนยากจน และคนขอยืมก็เป็นทาสของคนให้ยืม
7The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
8บุคคลผู้หว่านความชั่วช้าจะเกี่ยวความหายนะ และไม้ถือแห่งความดุเดือดของเขาจะล้มเหลว
8He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
9บุคคลที่มีตาแสดงใจกว้างขวางก็จะรับพร เพราะเขาแบ่งส่วนอาหารของเขาแก่คนยากจน
9He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
10จงขับคนมักเยาะเย้ยออกไปเสีย แล้วการวิวาทจะหมดไป เออ การวิวาทและการดูแคลนจะหยุดลง
10Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11บุคคลที่รักใจบริสุทธิ์ เพราะเหตุริมฝีปากของเขามีกรุณาคุณ กษัตริย์จะได้เป็นมิตรของเขา
11He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend.
12พระเนตรพระเยโฮวาห์เฝ้าอยู่เหนือความรู้ แต่พระองค์ทรงคว่ำถ้อยคำของคนละเมิด
12The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13คนเกียจคร้านกล่าวว่า "มีสิงโตอยู่ข้างนอก ข้าจะถูกฆ่าตามถนน"
13The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”
14ปากของหญิงชั่วเป็นหลุมลึก บุคคลซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระพิโรธจะตกลงในที่นั้น
14The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Yahweh’s wrath will fall into it.
15ความโง่ถูกผูกมัดอยู่ในใจของเด็ก แต่ไม้เรียวที่ตีสอนก็ขับมันให้ห่างไปจากเขา
15Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16บุคคลผู้บีบบังคับคนยากจนเพื่อเพิ่มทรัพย์ศฤงคารของตน และผู้ที่เพิ่มให้แก่คนมั่งคั่ง จะมาถึงความขัดสนอย่างแน่นอน
16Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
17เอียงหูของเจ้าและฟังถ้อยคำของปราชญ์ และเอาใจใส่ความรู้ของเรา
17Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.
18เพราะถ้าเจ้ารักษาถ้อยคำและความรู้นั้นไว้ในตัวเจ้า ก็จะเป็นความชื่นใจแก่เจ้า แล้วทั้งสองจะมั่นคงในริมฝีปากของเจ้า
18For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
19เพื่อความไว้วางใจของเจ้าจะอยู่ในพระเยโฮวาห์ เราให้แจ้งประจักษ์แก่เจ้าในวันนี้แม้แก่ตัวเจ้าเอง
19That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you.
20เราได้เขียนให้เจ้าถึงสิ่งวิเศษนัก ถึงเรื่องการปรึกษาและความรู้แล้วมิใช่หรือ
20Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
21เพื่อให้เจ้าทราบถึงความแน่นอนของถ้อยคำแห่งความจริง เพื่อเจ้าจะได้ให้คำตอบที่จริงแก่ผู้ที่ใช้เจ้าไป
21To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22อย่าปล้นคนยากจน เพราะเขาเป็นคนยากจน หรือบีบคั้นคนทุกข์ใจที่ประตูเมือง
22Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
23เพราะว่าพระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงว่าความแทนเขา และริบชีวิตของผู้ที่ริบเขา
23for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24อย่าเป็นมิตรกับคนที่มักโกรธ หรือไปกับคนขี้โมโห
24Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:
25เกรงว่าเจ้าจะเรียนรู้ทางของเขา และพัวพันจิตใจเจ้าเข้าในบ่วง
25lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.
26อย่าเป็นพวกที่เป็นผู้ค้ำประกัน อย่าเป็นพวกผู้เป็นประกันหนี้สิน
26Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
27ถ้าเจ้าไม่มีอะไรชำระเขา ทำไมจึงควรให้เขาเอาที่นอนไปจากใต้ตัวเจ้าเล่า
27If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
28อย่าย้ายหลักเขตเก่าแก่ซึ่งบรรพบุรุษของเจ้าได้ปักไว้
28Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.
29เจ้าเห็นคนที่ขยันในงานของเขาหรือ เขาจะได้เข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์ เขาจะไม่ยืนอยู่ต่อหน้าคนต่ำต้อย
29Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
