1เมื่อเจ้านั่งลงรับประทานกับผู้ครอบครองบ้านเมือง จงสังเกตให้ดีว่าอะไรอยู่ข้างหน้าเจ้า
1When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you;
2ถ้าเจ้าเป็นคนตะกละ เจ้าจงจ่อมีดไว้ที่คอของเจ้า
2put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite.
3อย่าปรารถนาของโอชะของท่าน เพราะมันเป็นอาหารที่หลอกลวง
3Don’t be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.
4อย่าทำงานเพื่อมั่งมี จงเลิกพึ่งสติปัญญาของตนเอง
4Don’t weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.

10อย่าโยกย้ายเสาเขตเก่าแก่ หรือเข้าไปในไร่นาของคนกำพร้าพ่อ
10Don’t move the ancient boundary stone. Don’t encroach on the fields of the fatherless:
11เพราะพระผู้ไถ่ของเขาแข็งแรง พระองค์จะว่าคดีของเขาต่อสู้เจ้า
11for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.

14เจ้าจะตีเขาด้วยไม้เรียว แล้วเจ้าจะช่วยชีวิตของเขาให้รอดจากนรก

18Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off.
19บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย จงฟัง และจงฉลาดเถิด และนำใจของเจ้าไปในทางนั้น
19Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!
20อย่าอยู่ท่ามกลางคนดื่มเหล้าองุ่น หรือท่ามกลางคนตะกละที่กินเนื้อ
20Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat:
21เพราะคนขี้เมาและคนตะกละจะมาถึงความยากจน และความง่วงเหงาจะเอาผ้าขี้ริ้วห่มคนนั้น
21for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
22จงฟังบิดาของเจ้าผู้ให้กำเนิดเจ้า และอย่าดูหมิ่นมารดาของเจ้าเมื่อนางแก่
22Listen to your father who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.
23จงซื้อความจริงและอย่าขายไปเสีย จงซื้อปัญญา คำสั่งสอน และความเข้าใจ
23Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.
24บิดาของคนชอบธรรมจะเปรมปรีดิ์อย่างยิ่ง บุคคลผู้ให้กำเนิดบุตรที่ฉลาดจะยินดีเพราะเขา
24The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.
25บิดามารดาของเจ้าจะยินดี และผู้ที่คลอดเจ้าก็จะเปรมปรีดิ์
25Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!
26บุตรชายของเราเอ๋ย ขอใจของเจ้าให้เราเถอะ และให้ตาของเจ้าสังเกตดูทางทั้งหลายของเรา
26My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.
27เพราะหญิงแพศยาเป็นหลุมลึก และหญิงสัญจรเป็นเหมือนบ่อแคบ
27For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28นางหมอบคอยอยู่เหมือนคอยเหยื่อ และเพิ่มคนละเมิดขึ้นท่ามกลางมนุษย์
28Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.
29ใครที่ร้องโอย ใครที่ร้องอุย ใครที่มีการวิวาท ใครที่มีการร้องคราง ใครที่มีบาดแผลปราศจากเหตุ ใครที่มีตาแดง
29Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30คือบรรดาผู้ที่นั่งแช่อยู่กับเหล้าองุ่น บรรดาผู้ที่ไปแสวงหาเหล้าประสม
30Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.
31อย่ามองดูเหล้าองุ่นเมื่อมันมีสีแดง เมื่อเป็นประกายในถ้วย และลงไปคล่องๆ
31Don’t look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.
32ณ ที่สุดมันกัดเหมือนงู และมันฉกเอาเหมือนงูทับทาง
32In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper.
33ตาของเจ้าจะมองดูหญิงชั่ว และใจของเจ้าจะพูดตลบตะแลง
33Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.
34เออ เจ้าจะเป็นเหมือนคนที่นอนอยู่กลางทะเล อย่างคนที่นอนอยู่บนเสากางใบ
34Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
35เจ้าจะว่า "เขาตีข้า แต่ข้าไม่เจ็บ เขาทุบข้า แต่ข้าไม่รู้สึก ข้าจะตื่นเมื่อไรหนอ ข้าจะแสวงการดื่มอีก"
