1ถ้าพระเยโฮวาห์มิได้ทรงสร้างบ้าน บรรดาผู้ที่สร้างก็เหนื่อยเปล่า ถ้าพระเยโฮวาห์มิได้ทรงเฝ้าอยู่เหนือนคร คนยามตื่นอยู่ก็เหนื่อยเปล่า
1Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.
2เป็นการเหนื่อยเปล่าที่ท่านลุกขึ้นแต่เช้ามืด นอนดึก และกินอาหารแห่งความเศร้าโศก เพราะพระองค์ประทานแก่ผู้ที่รักของพระองค์ให้หลับสบาย
2It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.
3ดูเถิด บุตรทั้งหลายเป็นมรดกจากพระเยโฮวาห์ ผู้บังเกิดจากครรภ์เป็นรางวัลของพระองค์
3Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward.
4บุตรทั้งหลายที่เกิดเมื่อเขายังหนุ่มก็เหมือนลูกธนูในมือนักรบ
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth.
5ชายใดๆที่มีลูกธนูเต็มแล่งก็เป็นสุข เขาจะไม่ต้องละอาย แต่เขาจะพูดกับศัตรูของเขาที่ประตูเมือง
5Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won’t be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
