¹ทุกคนจงยอมอยู่ใต้บังคับของผู้ที่มีอำนาจ เพราะว่าไม่มีอำนาจใดเลยที่มิได้มาจากพระเจ้า และผู้ที่ทรงอำนาจนั้นพระเจ้าทรงแต่งตั้งขึ้น

¹Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.

²เหตุฉะนั้นผู้ที่ขัดขืนอำนาจนั้นก็ขัดขืนผู้ซึ่งพระเจ้าทรงแต่งตั้งขึ้น และผู้ที่ขัดขืนนั้นจะต้องถูกพิพากษาลงโทษ

²Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.

³เพราะว่าผู้ครอบครองนั้นไม่น่ากลัวเลยสำหรับคนที่ทำความดี แต่ว่าเป็นที่น่ากลัวสำหรับคนที่ทำความชั่ว ท่านไม่อยากจะกลัวผู้มีอำนาจหรือ ถ้าเช่นนั้นก็จงประพฤติแต่ความดี แล้วท่านจะได้รับการสรรเสริญจากผู้มีอำนาจนั้น

³For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same,

⁴เพราะว่าผู้ครอบครองนั้นเป็นผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้าเพื่อให้ประโยชน์แก่ท่าน แต่ถ้าท่านทำการชั่วก็จงกลัวเถิด เพราะว่าผู้ครอบครองนั้นหาได้ถือดาบไว้เฉยๆไม่ ท่านเป็นผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้า จะเป็นผู้ลงพระอาชญาแทนพระเจ้าแก่ทุกคนที่ประพฤติชั่ว

⁴for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.

⁵เหตุฉะนั้นท่านจะต้องอยู่ในบังคับบัญชา มิใช่เพราะเกรงพระอาชญาสิ่งเดียว แต่เพราะจิตที่สำนึกผิดและชอบด้วย

⁵Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.

⁶เพราะเหตุผลอันเดียวกันท่านจึงได้เสียส่วยสาอากรด้วย เพราะว่าผู้มีอำนาจนั้นเป็นผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้า และปฏิบัติหน้าที่นี้อยู่

⁶For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, attending continually on this very thing.

⁷เหตุฉะนั้นท่านทั้งหลายจงให้แก่ทุกคนตามที่เขาควรจะได้รับ ส่วยอากรควรจะให้แก่ผู้ใด จงให้แก่ผู้นั้น ภาษีควรจะให้แก่ผู้ใด จงให้แก่ผู้นั้น ความยำเกรงควรจะให้แก่ผู้ใด จงให้แก่ผู้นั้น เกียรติยศควรจะให้แก่ผู้ใด จงให้แก่ผู้นั้น

⁷Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.

⁸อย่าเป็นหนี้อะไรใคร นอกจากความรักซึ่งมีต่อกัน เพราะว่าผู้ที่รักคนอื่นก็ทำให้พระราชบัญญัติสำเร็จแล้ว

⁸Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

⁹พระบัญญัติกล่าวว่า `อย่าล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขา อย่ากระทำการฆาตกรรม อย่าลักทรัพย์ อย่าเป็นพยานเท็จ อย่าโลภ' ทั้งพระบัญญัติอื่นๆก็รวมอยู่ในข้อนี้คือ `ท่านจงรักเพื่อนบ้านเหมือนรักตนเอง'

⁹For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not give false testimony,” “You shall not covet,” TR adds “You shall not give false testimony,” Exodus 20:13-15,17; Deuteronomy 5:17-19,21 and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Leviticus 19:18

¹⁰ความรักไม่ทำอันตรายเพื่อนบ้านเลย เหตุฉะนั้นความรักจึงเป็นที่ให้พระราชบัญญัติสำเร็จแล้ว

¹⁰Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

¹¹นอกจากนี้ท่านควรจะรู้กาลสมัยว่า บัดนี้เป็นเวลาที่เราควรจะตื่นจากหลับแล้ว เพราะว่าเวลาที่เราจะรอดนั้นใกล้กว่าเวลาที่เราได้เริ่มเชื่อนั้น

¹¹Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.

¹²กลางคืนล่วงไปมากแล้ว และรุ่งเช้าก็ใกล้เข้ามา เหตุฉะนั้นเราจงเลิกการกระทำของความมืด และจงสวมเครื่องอาวุธของความสว่าง

¹²The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.

¹³เราจงประพฤติตัวให้เหมาะสมกับเวลากลางวัน มิใช่เลี้ยงเสพสุราเมามาย มิใช่หยาบโลนลามก มิใช่วิวาทริษยากัน

¹³Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.

¹⁴แต่ท่านทั้งหลายจงประดับตัวด้วยพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้า และอย่าจัดเตรียมอะไรไว้บำเรอเนื้อหนัง เพื่อจะให้สำเร็จตามความปรารถนาของเนื้อหนังนั้น

¹⁴But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
