¹Sau các việc này và sự thành tín này, thì San-chê-ríp loán đến trong xứ Giu-đa, vây các thành bền vững, có ý hãm lấy nó.

¹After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

²Khi Ê-xê-chia thấy San-chê-ríp đã đến, toan hãm đánh Giê-ru-sa-lem,

²When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

³thì người hội nghị với các quan trưởng và những người mạnh dạn đặng ngăn nước suối ở ngoài thành; họ bèn giúp đỡ người.

³he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city; and they helped him.

⁴Dân sự nhóm lại đông, chận các suối và các khe chảy giữ xứ, mà rằng: Làm gì để cho vua A-si-ri đến, thấy có nước nhiều?

⁴So many people gathered together, and they stopped all the springs, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?”

⁵Người tự can đảm, xây đắp vách thành đã bị hư lủng, xây nó lên đến tận tháp; rồi lại xây một cái vách khác ở phía ngoài; người làm cho vững chắc Mi-lô ở trong thành Ða-vít và chế nhiều cây lao cùng khiên.

⁵He took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.

⁶Người lập những quan tướng trên dân sự, rồi hiệp lập chúng lại gần mình tại phố bên cửa thành, nói động lòng chúng, mà rằng:

⁶He set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the broad place at the gate of the city, and spoke comfortably to them, saying,

⁷Khá vững lòng bền chí, chớ sợ, chớ kinh hãi trước mặt vua A-si-ri và đám quân đông đảo theo người; vì có một Ðấng ở cùng chúng ta thắng hơn kẻ ở với họ:

⁷“Be strong and courageous, don’t be afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him.

⁸với người chỉ một cánh tay xác thịt; còn với chúng ta có Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của chúng ta đặng giúp đỡ và chiến tranh thế cho chúng ta. Dân sự bèn nương cậy nơi lời của Ê-xê-chia, vua Giu-đa.

⁸With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Yahweh our God to help us, and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

⁹Sau việc ấy, San-chê-ríp, vua A-si-ri, với cả đạo binh của người hãy còn vây La-ki, có sai các đầy tớ người đến Ê-xê-chia và dân Giu-đa ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, mà nói rằng:

⁹After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,

¹⁰San-chê-ríp, vua A-si-ri, nói như vầy: Các ngươi nương cậy điều gì, mà chịu ở vậy trong thành Giê-ru-sa-lem như thế?

¹⁰Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?

¹¹Ê-xê-chia nói rằng: Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta sẽ giải cứu chúng ta khỏi tay vua A-si-ri, ấy há chẳng phải người dỗ dành các ngươi đặng phó các ngươi đói khát cho chết hay sao?

¹¹Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘Yahweh our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?’

¹²Chớ thì chẳng phải chính Ê-xê-chia này đã cất những nơi cao và bàn thờ của Ngài, rồi biểu dân Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem rằng: Các ngươi khá thờ lạy trước một bàn thờ, và chỉ xông hương tại trên đó mà thôi?

¹²Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn incense?’

¹³Các ngươi há chẳng biết điều ta và tổ phụ ta đã làm cho các dân thiên hạ sao? Các thần của những dân tộc thiên hạ, há giải cứu xứ chúng nó được khỏi tay ta ư?

¹³Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?

¹⁴Nội trong các thần của những dân tộc mà tổ phụ ta đã diệt hết đi, há có thần nào giải cứu dân mình cho khỏi tay ta chăng? Dễ có một mình Thần các ngươi giải cứu các ngươi được khỏi tay ta chớ!

¹⁴Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?

¹⁵Vậy bây giờ, chớ để Ê-xê-chia phỉnh gạt, khuyên dụ các ngươi như thế, và các ngươi chớ tin người; vì chẳng có thần của dân nào nước nào giải cứu dân mình được khỏi tay ta hay là khỏi tay tổ phụ ta; huống chi Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay ta!

¹⁵Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, neither believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”

¹⁶Các đầy tớ người lại còn nói nghịch cùng Giê-hô-va là Ðức Chúa Trời thật, và nghịch cùng Ê-xê-chia, là tôi tớ Ngài.

¹⁶His servants spoke yet more against Yahweh God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

¹⁷Người cũng viết thơ sỉ nhục Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, và nói phạm đến Ngài mà rằng: Hễ thần của các dân tộc thiên hạ chẳng giải cứu dân mình khỏi tay ta thế nào, thì thần của Ê-xê-chia cũng chẳng giải cứu được dân sự người khỏi tay ta thế ấy.

¹⁷He also wrote letters insulting Yahweh, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”

¹⁸Chúng la lớn lên, nói bằng tiếng Giu-đa cho dân Giê-ru-sa-lam ở trên vách thành, đặng làm cho chúng sợ hoảng, để hãm lấy thành.

¹⁸They cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

¹⁹Chúng lại nói về Ðức Chúa Trời của Giê-ru-sa-lem, như thể các thần của dân thiên hạ đều là công việc của tay người ta làm ra.

¹⁹They spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.

²⁰Vua Ê-xê-chia, và tiên tri Ê-sai, con trai A-mốt, cầu nguyện về việc này, và kêu la thấu đến trời.

²⁰Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.

²¹Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn sai một thiên sứ diệt những người mạnh dạn, các quan trưởng và các quan tướng ở trong trại quân của vua A-si-ri. người trở về trong xứ mình, mặt hổ thẹn; và khi người vào trong miễu thần mình, có những kẻ bởi lòng người sanh ra đều lấy gươm giết người tại đó.

²¹Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came forth from his own bowels killed him there with the sword.

²²Như vậy Ðức Giê-hô-va cứu Ê-xê-chia và dân cư thành Giê-ru-sa-lem khỏi tay San-chê-ríp, vua A-si-ri, và khỏi tay mọi người khác, cùng phù hộ cho chúng bốn bên.

²²Thus Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.

²³Có nhiều người đem những lễ vật đến dâng cho Ðức Giê-hô-va tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, và những vật quí báu cho Ê-xê-chia, vua Giu-đa; nên từ khi ấy về sau, người được tôn cao trước mặt các nước.

²³Many brought gifts to Yahweh to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

²⁴Trong lúc ấy, Ê-xê-chia bị đau hòng chết; người cầu nguyện Ðức Giê-hô-va, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng người, và ban cho người một dấu lạ.

²⁴In those days Hezekiah was sick even to death: and he prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.

²⁵Nhưng Ê-xê-chia chẳng báo đáp lại ơn Chúa mà người đã lãnh, vì lòng người tự cao; bèn có cơn thạnh nộ của Chúa nổi lên cùng người, cùng Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem.

²⁵But Hezekiah didn’t render again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.

²⁶Song Ê-xê-chia hạ sự tự cao trong lòng mình xuống, người và dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem cũng vậy, nên trong đời Ê-xê-chia, cơn thạnh nộ của Ðức Giê-hô-va không giáng trên chúng.

²⁶Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Yahweh didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

²⁷Ê-xê-chia được rất giàu rất sang; người cất những kho để trử bạc, vàng, đá quí, thuốc thơm, khiên, và các thứ khí giới tốt đẹp;

²⁷Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor: and he provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all kinds of goodly vessels;

²⁸những lẫm đặng chứa ngũ cốc, rượu, và dầu; những chuồng để nhốt các thứ thú vật, bầy chiên, và bầy bò.

²⁸storehouses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.

²⁹Người cũng xây những thành, có nhiều bầy chiên và bò; vì Ðức Chúa Trời ban cho người rất nhiều của cải.

²⁹Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance.

³⁰Ấy là Ê-xê-chia này lấp nguồn trên của nước Ghi-hôn, và dẫn nó chảy ngầm dưới đất qua phía tây của thành Ða-vít. Trong mọi việc Ê-xê-chia được hanh thông.

³⁰This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the city of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

³¹Song khi sứ giả mà vua Ba-by-lôn sai đến người đặng hỏi thăm dấu lạ đã xảy ra trong xứ, thì Ðức Chúa Trời tạm lìa bỏ người đặng thử người, để cho biết mọi điều ở trong lòng người.

³¹However concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

³²Các công việc khác của Ê-xê-chia, và những việc thiện của người, đều chép trong sách dị tượng của Ê-sai, đấng tiên tri, con trai của A-mốt, và trong sách các vua Giu-đa và Y-sơ-ra-ên.

³²Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

³³Ê-xê-chia an giấc cùng tổ phụ mình, người ta chôn người trong lăng tẩm cao của con cháu Ða-vít; cả Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem đều tôn kính người lúc người thác; Ma-na-se, con trai người, cai trị thế cho người.

³³Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
