¹Giô-si-a được tám tuổi khi người lên ngôi làm vua, và cai trị ba mươi mốt năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

¹Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

²Người làm điều thiện trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, và đi theo con đường của Ða-vít, tổ phụ người, không xây về bên hữu hay là bên tả.

²He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

³Năm thứ tám đời người trị vì, khi người hãy còn trẻ tuổi, thì người khởi tìm kiếm Ðức Chúa Trời của Ða-vít, tổ phụ người; năm thứ mười hai, người khởi dọn sạch Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, trừ bỏ những nơi cao, thần A-sê-ra, tượng chạm và tượng đúc.

³For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images.

⁴Trước mặt vua, người ta phá dỡ các bàn thờ Ba-anh, đánh đổ những trụ thờ mặt trời ở trên cao bàn thờ ấy; còn thần A-sê-ra, tượng chạm và tượng đúc, thì bẻ gãy, nghiền nát nó ra, rồi rải trên mồ mả của những kẻ đã cúng tế nó.

⁴They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and the incense altars that were on high above them he cut down; and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

⁵Người cũng thiêu hài cốt của những thầy tế lễ tại trên bàn thờ các thần ấy, và dọn sạch Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem.

⁵He burnt the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.

⁶Trong các thành của Ma-na-se, của Ép-ra-im, và của Si-mê-ôn, cho đến Nép-ta-li khắp chung quanh các nơi đổ nát,

⁶He did this in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.

⁷người phá dỡ các bàn thờ và nghiền nát ra bụi những thần A-sê-ra, tượng chạm và tượng đúc, đánh đổ các trụ thờ mặt trời ở trong khắp xứ Y-sơ-ra-ên; rồi người trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem.

⁷He broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.

⁸Năm thứ mười tám đời người trị vì, sau khi đã dọn sạch xứ và đền thờ rồi, thì người sai Sa-phan, con trai A-sa-lia, Ma-a-xê-gia, quan cai thành, và Giô-a, con trai Giô-a-cha, quan thái sử, đặng sửa sang đền của Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời người.

⁸Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of Yahweh his God.

⁹Các người ấy đi đến cùng Hinh-kia, thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm, giao cho người tiền bạc đã đem vào đền Ðức Chúa Trời, tức tiền bạc mà người Lê-vi, kẻ giữ cửa, đã nhận nơi tay người Ma-na-se, người Ép-ra-im, và nơi những kẻ còn sót lại trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, cùng nhận nơi cả Giu-đa, Bên-gia-min và những dân cư thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.

⁹They came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into God’s house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

¹⁰Chúng giao bạc ấy nơi tay những người coi sóc công việc của đền Ðức Giê-hô-va; họ phát cho các thợ đặng tu bổ, sửa sang đền thờ:

¹⁰They delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of Yahweh; and the workmen who labored in the house of Yahweh gave it to mend and repair the house;

¹¹tức giao cho các nhà thuộc về đền mà các vua Giu-đa đã phá hủy.

¹¹even to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy cut stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

¹²Các thợ ấy đều làm công việc cách thành tâm. Kẻ quản đốc các thợ ấy là Gia-hát và Ô-ba-đia, hai người Lê-vi thuộc về dòng Mê-ra-ri; Xa-cha-ri và Mê-su-lam về dòng Kê-hát, cùng mấy người Lê-vi khác, đánh nhạc khí giỏi.

¹²The men did the work faithfully: and their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and others of the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music.

¹³Chúng cũng quản đốc kẻ khiêng gánh, và coi sóc những người làm đủ mọi thứ công việc; còn những ký lục, quan cai và kẻ canh cửa đều là người Lê-vi.

¹³Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all who did the work in every kind of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.

¹⁴Khi người ta đem bạc đã đem vào đền Ðức Giê-hô-va ra, thì Hinh-kia, thầy tế lễ, tìm được cuốn sách luật pháp của Ðức Giê-hô-va truyền lại bởi Môi-se.

¹⁴When they brought out the money that was brought into the house of Yahweh, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of Yahweh given by Moses.

¹⁵Hinh-kia cất tiếng lên nói với thơ ký Sa-phan rằng: Ta có tìm được cuốn sách luật pháp ở trong đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va. Rồi Hinh-kia giao sách ấy cho Sa-phan.

¹⁵Hilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

¹⁶Sa-phan đem sách đó cho vua; rồi người cũng tâu với vua rằng: Mọi việc giao nơi tay các tôi tớ vua thì họ đương làm.

¹⁶Shaphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, “All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.

¹⁷Chúng đã lấy bạc tìm được trong đền Ðức Giê-hô-va ra, và đã giao nơi tay các đốc công và những người làm công việc.

¹⁷They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of Yahweh, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.”

¹⁸Thơ ký Sa-phan lại tâu với vua rằng: Thầy tế lễ Hinh-kia có trao cho tôi một cuốn sách. Sa-phan bèn đọc tại trước mặt vua.

¹⁸Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered me a book.” Shaphan read therein before the king.

¹⁹Xảy khi vua nghe các lời luật pháp rồi, thì xé áo mình.

¹⁹It happened, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he tore his clothes.

²⁰Vua truyền lịnh cho Hinh-kia, A-hi-cam, con trai của Sa-phan, Áp-đôn, con trai của Mi-ca, Sa-phan, thơ ký, và A-sa-gia, quan cận thần vua, mà rằng:

²⁰The king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

²¹Hãy vì ta, vì các người Y-sơ-ra-ên và vì người Giu-đa còn sót lại, mà đi cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va về các lời phán của sách này đã tìm lại được vì cơn giận của Ðức Giê-hô-va đã giáng trên chúng ta thật lớn thay, bởi các tổ phụ ta không gìn giữ lời phán của Ðức Giê-hô-va, và chẳng làm theo các điều đã chép trong sách này.

²¹“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of Yahweh that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Yahweh, to do according to all that is written in this book.”

²²Hinh-kia và các kẻ vua sai đi đến Hun-đa, nữ tiên tri, vợ của Sa-lum, là người giữ áo lễ, con trai của Tô-cát, cháu Hát-ra; bà ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem trong quận thứ nhì; chúng nói với bà theo các lời vua đã phán.

²²So Hilkiah, and they whom the king had commanded, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter;) and they spoke to her to that effect.

²³Bà bèn nói với chúng rằng: Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ -r-ên phán như vầy: Hãy nói cùng người đã sai các ngươi đến cùng ta rằng:

²³She said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

²⁴Ðức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: nầy ta sẽ khiến các tai vạ giáng trên chỗ này và trên dân ở chỗ này, tức là các sự rủa sả chép trong sách mà người ta đã đọc trước mặt vua Giu-đa.

²⁴“Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.

²⁵Bởi vì chúng đã lìa bỏ ta, xông hương cho các tà thần, lấy các công việc tay chúng nó làm mà chọc giận ta; nên cơn thạnh nộ ta sẽ đổ ra trên chỗ này, không hề nguôi.

²⁵Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched.’”’

²⁶Còn vua Giu-đa đã sai các ngươi đi cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va, các ngươi hãy nói cho người như vầy: Về các lời ngươi đã nghe, Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên có phán như vầy:

²⁶But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, thus you shall tell him, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: “As touching the words which you have heard,

²⁷Khi ngươi nghe lời ta phán nghịch cùng chỗ này, và nghịch cùng dân cư nó, thì ngươi có lòng mềm mại, hạ mình xuống trước mặt ta, xé áo ngươi, và khóc lóc tại trước mặt ta; bởi vậy cho nên ta cũng có nghe ngươi.

²⁷because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,” says Yahweh.

²⁸Kìa, ta sẽ khiến ngươi về cùng tổ phụ ngươi, ngươi sẽ được chôn bình an, và mắt ngươi sẽ chẳng thấy các tai vạ ta toan giáng xuống trên chốn này cùng trên dân cư nó. Chúng bèn tâu lại cho vua những lời ấy.

²⁸“Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring on this place, and on its inhabitants.”’” They brought back word to the king.

²⁹Vua bèn sai người nhóm các trưởng lão Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem.

²⁹Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

³⁰Ðoạn, vua đi lên đền Ðức Giê-hô-va, có hết thảy người Giu-đa, dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem, những thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, và cả dân sự, từ nhỏ đến lớn, đều đi theo người; người đọc cho chúng nghe các lời của sách giao ước đã tìm được trong đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va,

³⁰The king went up to the house of Yahweh, and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of Yahweh.

³¹Vua đứng tại chỗ mình, lập giao ước trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, hứa đi theo Ðức Giê-hô-va, hết lòng hết ý gìn giữ các điều răn, chứng cớ, và luật lệ của Ngài, đặng làm trọn lời giao ước giao ước đã chép trong sách ấy.

³¹The king stood in his place, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.

³²Người cũng khiến những người ở Giê-ru-sa-lem và Bên-gia-min ưng theo giao ước ấy. Vậy, dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem đều làm theo giao ước của Ðức Chúa Trời, là Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ họ.

³²He caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand. The inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

³³Giô-si-a cất hết thảy sự gớm ghiếc khỏi các xứ thuộc về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và buộc hết thảy những người ở xứ Y-sơ-ra-ên phải phục sự Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của họ. Trọn đời Giô-si-a, chúng hằng theo Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ họ, chẳng lìa bỏ Ngài.

³³Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Yahweh their God. All his days they didn’t depart from following Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
