¹Năm thứ mười hai đời A-cha, vua Giu-đa, thì Ô-sê, con trai Ê-la, lên làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, tại Sa-ma-ri; người cai trị chín năm.

¹In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel for nine years.

²Người làm điều ác trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, song chẳng bằng các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên trước người.

²He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him.

³Sanh-ma-na-sa, vua A-si-ri, đi lên hãm đánh Ô-sê; người bị thần phục Sanh-ma-na-sa và đóng thuế cho người.

³Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute.

⁴Nhưng vua A-si-ri thấy Ô-sê toan mưu phản; vì Ô-sê có sai sứ giả đến Sô, vua Ê-díp-tô, và không nộp thuế cho vua A-si-ri như người hằng năm đã làm; vua A-si-ri bèn bắt người xiềng lại, và hạ ngục.

⁴The king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

⁵Ðoạn, vua A-si-ri đi lên xâm chiếm cả xứ, đến vây Sa-ma-ri trong ba năm.

⁵Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

⁶Năm thứ chín đời Ô-sê, vua A-si-ri hãm lấy Sa-ma-ri, đem dân Y-sơ-ra-ên sang qua A-si-ri, lập họ ở tại Cha-la và trên bờ Cha-bo, sông của Gô-xan, cùng trong các thành nước Mê-đi.

⁶In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

⁷Vả, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phạm tội cùng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của họ, là Ðấng đã rút họ ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, và khỏi tay hà hiếp của Pha-ra-ôn, vua Ê-díp-tô; chúng đã kính thờ các thần khác

⁷It was so, because the children of Israel had sinned against Yahweh their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

⁸theo thói tục của các dân tộc mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và theo lệ mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã định.

⁸and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made.

⁹Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm lén những việc bất chánh nghịch cùng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của chúng, xây dựng những nơi cao trong khắp các thành họ, từ tháp vọng canh cho đến thành kiên cố,

⁹The children of Israel did secretly things that were not right against Yahweh their God: and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city;

¹⁰dựng lên những trụ thờ trên các nỗng cao và dưới những cây rậm.

¹⁰and they set them up pillars and Asherim on every high hill, and under every green tree;

¹¹Tại trên các nơi cao, chúng xông hương y như các dân tộc mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt họ, phạm những việc gian ác, và chọc giận Ðức Giê-hô-va.

¹¹and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the nations whom Yahweh carried away before them; and they worked wicked things to provoke Yahweh to anger;

¹²Chúng hầu việc những hình tượng mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã cấm chúng rằng: Các ngươi chớ thờ chúng nó.

¹²and they served idols, of which Yahweh had said to them, “You shall not do this thing.”

¹³Song Ðức Giê-hô-va cậy miệng các đấng tiên tri và những kẻ tiên kiến mà khuyên Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa rằng: Khá từ bỏ đường ác của các ngươi, hãy gìn giữ điều răn và luật lệ ta, tùy theo các mạng lịnh ta cậy những tiên tri, là tôi tớ ta, mà truyền cho tổ phụ các ngươi.

¹³Yet Yahweh testified to Israel, and to Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

¹⁴Nhưng chúng không muốn nghe, cứng cổ mình, y như các tổ phụ của chúng không có lòng tin Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của họ.

¹⁴Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who didn’t believe in Yahweh their God.

¹⁵Chúng khinh bỏ các luật lệ và giao ước Ngài đã lập cùng tổ phụ họ, và những lời chứng mà Ngài đã phán với họ. Chúng đi theo các thần hư không, và trở thành hư không, bắt chước các dân tộc ở chung quanh mình, mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã cấm làm theo gương của chúng nó.

¹⁵They rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom Yahweh had commanded them that they should not do like them.

¹⁶Chúng khinh bỏ hết thảy giới mạnh của Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời mình, tự đúc lấy hai tượng bò con, cùng làm thần tượng A-sê-ra, thờ lạy hết thảy cơ binh trên trời, và thờ phượng Ba-anh.

¹⁶They forsook all the commandments of Yahweh their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Baal.

¹⁷Chúng cũng đưa con trai con gái mình qua lửa, dùng tà thuật, tin bói khoa, chuyên làm điều dữ trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, để chọc giận Ngài.

¹⁷They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁸Bởi cớ ấy, Ðức Giê-hô-va rất nổi giận dữ cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, xua đùa chúng khỏi trước mặt Ngài; chỉ còn lại chi phái Giu-đa mà thôi.

¹⁸Therefore Yahweh was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

¹⁹Chính Giu-đa cũng không vâng giữ các điều răn của Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa trời của họ; bèn đi theo những lệ luật mà Y-sơ-ra-ên đã lập.

¹⁹Also Judah didn’t keep the commandments of Yahweh their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

²⁰Thế thì, Ðức Giê-hô-va từ bỏ cả dòng dõi Y-sơ-ra-ên, làm khốn khổ họ, và phó họ vào tay các kẻ cướp giựt, cho đến phải lưu đày cách xa mặt Ngài.

²⁰Yahweh rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

²¹Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phân rẽ nhà Ða-vít, tôn Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát, làm vua; người quyến dụ Y-sơ-ra-ên bội nghịch Ðức Giê-hô-va, và khiến cho họ phạm tội lớn.

²¹For he tore Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin.

²²Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều đi trong hết thảy tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am đã phạm, chẳng từ bỏ chút nào,

²²The children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they didn’t depart from them;

²³cho đến ngày Ðức Giê-hô-va đày đuổi họ khỏi trước mặt Ngài, y như Ngài đã phán bởi miệng của các tiên tri, tôi tớ Ngài. Vậy, Y-sơ-ra-ên bị cất khỏi xứ mình, lưu đày qua A-si-ri cho đến ngày nay.

²³until Yahweh removed Israel out of his sight, as he spoke by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

²⁴Vua A-si-ri đem người ở Ba-by-lôn, Cu-tha, A-va, Ha-mát và Sê-phạt-va-im, đặt ở trong các thành của Sa-ma-ri, thế cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Chúng chiếm lấy nước Sa-ma-ri, và ở trong các thành nó.

²⁴The king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and lived in the cities of it.

²⁵Khi chúng bắt đầu trú ngụ tại đó, thì không kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va, nên Ðức Giê-hô-va sai sư tử đến giết mấy người trong bọn chúng.

²⁵So it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didn’t fear Yahweh: therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them.

²⁶Người ta bèn nói với vua A-si-ri rằng: Các dân mà vua đã đem qua đặt trong các thành của Sa-ma-ri không biết lệ thờ phượng thần của xứ, vì vậy thần đó có sai sư tử đến giết họ, tại họ không biết lệ thờ lạy thần của xứ vậy.

²⁶Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The nations which you have carried away, and placed in the cities of Samaria, don’t know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they don’t know the law of the god of the land.”

²⁷Vua A-si-ri liền truyền lịnh rằng: Trong những thầy tế lễ mà các ngươi đã bắt ở đó đem qua đây, các ngươi hãy lấy một người, dẫn về ở tại trong xứ đó đặng dạy lệ thờ lạy thần của xứ.

²⁷Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, “Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.”

²⁸Ấy vậy một kẻ trong những thầy tế lễ mà chúng đã bắt ở Sa-ma-ri đem đi trở về, ở tại Bê-tên, và dạy dỗ dân sự phải thờ lạy Ðức Giê-hô-va làm sao.

²⁸So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.

²⁹Song mỗi dân tộc đều tạo thần riêng cho mình, đặt nó trong những chùa miễu tại trên các nơi cao mà dân Sa-ma-ri đã dựng lên, tức dân tộc nào đặt thần mình trong thành nấy.

²⁹However every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived.

³⁰Dân Ba-by-lôn tạo hình tượng Su-cốt-Bê-nốt; dân Cút, tạo hình tượng Nẹt-ganh; dân Ha-mát tạo hình tượng A-si-ma;

³⁰The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

³¹dân A-vim tạo hình tượng Níp-ca và Tạt-tác; dân Sê-phạt-va-im thiêu con cái mình trong lửa cho A-tra-mê-léc và A-na-mê-léc, hai thần của dân Sê-phạt-va-im.

³¹and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

³²Chúng kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va, nhưng chọn những người trong bọn mình lập làm thầy tế lễ về các nơi cao; những thầy tế lễ ấy vì chúng dâng những của tế lễ tại trong chùa miễu của các nơi cao đó.

³²So they feared Yahweh, and made to them from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

³³Các dân tộc ấy kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va, song cũng hầu việc các thần mình, theo thói tục của những dân tộc mà họ bị dời ra khỏi đó.

³³They feared Yahweh, and served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

³⁴Ngày nay, chúng hãy còn làm theo thói tục cũ mình. Chúng không kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va, chẳng vâng giữ hoặc thói tục, hoặc luật pháp, hay là điều răn truyền cho con cháu Gia-cốp, mà Ngài đặt tên là Y-sơ-ra-ên.

³⁴To this day they do what they did before: they don’t fear Yahweh, neither do they follow their statutes, or their ordinances, or the law or the commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

³⁵Ðức Giê-hô-va đã lập giao ước với chúng, truyền dạy chúng rằng: Các ngươi chớ kính sợ các thần khác, chớ thờ lạy, hầu việc chúng nó, và đừng tế lễ chúng nó.

³⁵with whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;

³⁶Nhưng các ngươi khá kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va, là Ðấng dùng đại năng, và cánh tay giơ thẳng ra, đem các ngươi ra khỏi Ê-díp-tô; Ðấng đó các ngươi phải kính sợ thờ lạy, và dâng của lễ cho.

³⁶but you shall fear Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall bow yourselves to him, and you shall sacrifice to him.

³⁷Các luật lệ, điều răn, qui tắc, và mạng lịnh mà Ngài chép cho các ngươi, các ngươi khá gìn giữ làm theo đời đời, chớ nên kính sợ các thần khác.

³⁷The statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forevermore. You shall not fear other gods.

³⁸Các ngươi chẳng nên quên giao ước mà ta lập với các ngươi; chớ kính sợ các thần khác;

³⁸You shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you; neither shall you fear other gods.

³⁹nhưng khá kính sợ, Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của các ngươi, Ngài sẽ giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay các kẻ thù nghịch.

³⁹But you shall fear Yahweh your God; and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.”

⁴⁰Dầu vậy, các dân tộc ấy không nghe theo, nhưng còn làm theo thói tục cũ của mình.

⁴⁰However they did not listen, but they did what they did before.

⁴¹Như vậy, các dân tộc ấy kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va và cũng hầu việc những hình tượng chạm của mình; tổ phụ chúng nó làm thế nào, thì con cái cháu chắt chúng nó cũng hãy còn làm thế ấy cho đến ngày nay.

⁴¹So these nations feared Yahweh, and served their engraved images. Their children likewise, and their children’s children, as their fathers did, so they do to this day.
