¹Ðến tháng bảy, khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã ở trong bổn thành mình rồi, thì dân sự hiệp lại như một người ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

¹When the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.

²Bấy giờ, Giê-sua, con trai của Giô-sa-đác, và các anh em người, là thầy tế lễ, luôn với Xô-rô-ba-bên, con trai Sa-anh-thi-ên, và các anh em người, đều chổi dậy xây cất bàn thờ Ðức Chúa Trời ở Y-sơ-ra-ên, đặng dâng của lễ thiêu tại đó, theo như đã chép trong luật pháp Môi-se, người của Ðức chúa Trời.

²Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak stood up with his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

³Chúng sợ hãi dân của xứ, nên lập lại bàn thờ trên nền cũ nó, và dâng tại đó của lễ thiêu cho Ðức Giê-hô-va, tức là của lễ thiêu buổi sớm và buổi chiều.

³In spite of their fear because of the peoples of the surrounding lands, they set the altar on its base; and they offered burnt offerings on it to Yahweh, even burnt offerings morning and evening.

⁴Chúng cũng giữ lễ lều tạm, y như đã chép, và dâng những của lễ thiêu ngày nầy kế ngày kia, theo số đã định cho mỗi ngày.

⁴They kept the feast of tents, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required;

⁵Sau ấy, chúng dâng những của lễ thiêu hằng hiến, luôn những của lễ về lễ trăng non và về các ngày lễ trọng thể biệt ra thánh cho Ðức Giê-hô-va; lại dâng các của lễ của mỗi người lạc ý dâng cho Ðức Giê-hô-va.

⁵and afterward the continual burnt offering, the offerings of the new moons, of all the set feasts of Yahweh that were consecrated, and of everyone who willingly offered a freewill offering to Yahweh.

⁶Từ ngày mồng một tháng bảy, chúng khởi dâng những của lễ thiêu cho Ðức Giê-hô-va.

⁶From the first day of the seventh month, they began to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh; but the foundation of Yahweh’s temple was not yet laid.

⁷Chúng phân cấp tiền bạc cho thợ đẽo đá và cho thợ mộc, luôn những lương thực, rượu, và dầu cho dân Si-đôn và dân Ty-rơ, đặng sai họ đem gỗ bá hương từ Li-ban đến biển Gia-phô, tùy theo chiếu của Si-ru, vua Phe-rơ-sơ.

⁷They also gave money to the masons, and to the carpenters. They also gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from Cyrus King of Persia.

⁸Năm thứ hai tháng hai, sau khi chúng đến đền của Ðức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, Xô-rô-ba-bên, con trai của Sa-anh-thi-ên, và Giê-sua, con của Giô-xa-đác, với các anh em khác của họ, là những thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, cùng hết thảy những người bị bắt làm phu tù được trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem, đều khởi làm công việc xây cất đền thờ; chúng đặt người Lê-vi, từ hai mươi tuổi sắp lên, đặng cai quản công việc xây cất đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.

⁸Now in the second year of their coming to God’s house at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began the work and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of Yahweh’s house.

⁹Bấy giờ, Giê-sua, các con trai người và anh em người, Cát-mi-ên và các con trai người, con cháu Hô-đa-via và con cháu Hê-na-đát, là người Lê-vi, với con trai và anh em của họ, đều chổi dậy đồng hiệp nhau như một, mà quản đốc những người làm việc trong nhà của Ðức Chúa Trời.

⁹Then Jeshua stood with his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in God’s house: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brothers the Levites.

¹⁰Khi các thợ xây nền đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va, thì có những thầy tế lễ đứng đó mặc áo lễ và cầm kèn, còn những người Lê-vi, con cháu A-sáp, đều cầm chập chỏa, đặng ngợi khen Ðức Giê-hô-va y như các lễ-phép của Ða-vít, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đã lập ra.

¹⁰When the builders laid the foundation of Yahweh’s temple, they set the priests in their clothing with trumpets, with the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise Yahweh, according to the directions of David king of Israel.

¹¹Chúng ca hát đối đáp mà ngợi khen cảm tạ Ðức Giê-hô-va rằng: Ðáng ngợi khen Ðức Giê-hô-va, vì Ngài là tốt lành, lòng thương xót của Ngài đối với Y-sơ-ra-ên còn đến đời đời! Cả dân sự đều kêu reo tiếng lớn, ngợi khen Ðức Giê-hô-va, bởi vì người ta xây nền đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.

¹¹They sang to one another in praising and giving thanks to Yahweh, “For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever toward Israel.” All the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised Yahweh, because the foundation of the house of Yahweh had been laid.

¹²Nhiều thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, trưởng tộc, tức là những người già cả đã thấy đền thờ trước, bèn khóc tiếng lớn trong khi người ta xây nền của đền mới tại trước mặt mình. Cũng có nhiều người khác lại la tiếng lớn vui mừng hớn hở;

¹²But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ households, the old men who had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice. Many also shouted aloud for joy,

¹³nên người ta khó phân biệt tiếng vui mừng với tiếng khóc lóc; vì dân sự la lớn tiếng lên, và tiếng ấy vẳng vẳng nghe xa.

¹³so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people; for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard far away.
