1 Samuel

4

1The word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and encamped beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines encamped in Aphek.
1 Yr oedd gair Samuel yn air i Israel gyfan. Aeth Israel i ryfel yn erbyn y Philistiaid a gwersyllu ger Eben-eser, a'r Philistiaid yn gwersyllu yn Affec.
2The Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was struck before the Philistines; and they killed of the army in the field about four thousand men.
2 Wedi i'r Philistiaid drefnu eu byddin yn erbyn Israel, aeth yn frwydr, a threchwyd Israel gan y Philistiaid; lladdwyd tua phedair mil o'r fyddin ar faes y gad.
3When the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has Yahweh struck us today before the Philistines? Let us get the ark of the covenant of Yahweh out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us, and save us out of the hand of our enemies.”
3 Pan ddychwelodd y bobl i'r gwersyll, holodd henuriaid Israel, "Pam y trawodd yr ARGLWYDD ni heddiw o flaen y Philistiaid? Cymerwn atom o Seilo arch cyfamod yr ARGLWYDD, a doed i'n plith i'n hachub o law ein gelynion."
4So the people sent to Shiloh; and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh of Armies, who sits above the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
4 Anfonodd y bobl i Seilo a chymryd oddi yno arch cyfamod ARGLWYDD y Lluoedd sydd 'i orsedd ar y cerwbiaid. Yno hefyd, gydag arch cyfamod Duw, yr oedd dau fab Eli, Hoffni a Phinees.
5When the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
5 Pan gyrhaeddodd arch cyfamod yr ARGLWYDD i'r gwersyll, gwaeddodd yr Israeliaid i gyd bloedd uchel nes bod y ddaear yn datseinio.
6When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, “What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” They understood that the ark of Yahweh had come into the camp.
6 Clywodd y Philistiaid y floedd a gofyn, "Beth yw'r floedd fawr hon a glywir yng ngwersyll yr Hebreaid?" Wedi iddynt ddeall mai arch cyfamod yr ARGLWYDD oedd wedi cyrraedd i'r gwersyll,
7The Philistines were afraid, for they said, “God has come into the camp.” They said, “Woe to us! For there has not been such a thing before.
7 ofnodd y Philistiaid, oherwydd dweud yr oeddent, "Daeth duw i'r gwersyll." Ac meddent, "Gwae ni! Oherwydd ni fu peth fel hyn erioed o'r blaen.
8Woe to us! Who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
8 Gwae ni! Pwy a'n gwared ni o law'r duwiau nerthol hyn? Dyma'r duwiau a drawodd yr Eifftiaid phob math o bla yn yr anialwch.
9Be strong, and behave like men, O you Philistines, that you not be servants to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Strengthen yourselves like men, and fight!”
9 Byddwch yn gryf a gwrol, O Philistiaid, rhag i chwi fynd yn gaeth i'r Hebreaid fel y buont hwy i chwi; ie, byddwch yn wrol ac ymladd."
10The Philistines fought, and Israel was struck, and they fled every man to his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
10 Ymladdodd y Philistiaid, a threchwyd Israel, a ffodd pawb adref. Bu lladdfa fawr iawn, a syrthiodd deng mil ar hugain o wu375?r traed Israel.
11The ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
11 Hefyd cymerwyd arch Duw, a bu farw Hoffni a Phinees, dau fab Eli.
12There ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn, and with earth on his head.
12 Y diwrnod hwnnw rhedodd un o wu375?r Benjamin o'r frwydr a chyrraedd Seilo 'i ddillad wedi eu rhwygo a phridd ar ei ben.
13When he came, behold, Eli was sitting on his seat by the road watching; for his heart trembled for the ark of God. When the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
13 Pan ddaeth, dyna lle'r oedd Eli yn eistedd ar sedd gerllaw'r ffordd yn disgwyl, am ei fod yn bryderus iawn am arch Duw. Pan ddaeth y dyn a chyhoeddi'r newydd yn y ddinas, bu llefain drwy'r ddinas.
14When Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, “What does the noise of this tumult mean?” The man hurried, and came and told Eli.
14 A phan glywodd Eli su373?n y llefain, holodd, "Beth yw'r cynnwrf yma?" Yna brysiodd y dyn, a dod ac adrodd yr hanes wrth Eli.
15Now Eli was ninety-eight years old; and his eyes were set, so that he could not see.
15 Yr oedd Eli'n naw deg ac wyth oed, a'i lygaid wedi pylu fel na fedrai weld.
16The man said to Eli, “I am he who came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army.” He said, “How did the matter go, my son?”
16 A dywedodd y dyn wrth Eli, "Myfi sydd wedi dod o'r frwydr; heddiw y ffois o'r gad." Yna gofynnodd iddo, "Beth yw'r newydd, fy machgen?"
17He who brought the news answered, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.”
17 Atebodd y cennad, "Ffodd Israel o flaen y Philistiaid, a bu lladdfa fawr ymysg y bobl hefyd; y mae dy ddau fab, Hoffni a Phinees wedi marw, ac arch Duw wedi ei chymryd."
18It happened, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck broke, and he died; for he was an old man, and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.
18 Pan soniodd am arch Duw, syrthiodd Eli yn wysg ei gefn oddi ar y sedd gerllaw'r porth, a thorri ei wddf a marw, oherwydd yr oedd yn hen ac yn ddyn trwm. Yr oedd wedi barnu Israel am ddeugain mlynedd.
19His daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered. When she heard the news that the ark of God was taken, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth; for her pains came on her.
19 Yr oedd ei ferch-yng-nghyfraith, gwraig Phinees, yn feichiog ac yn agos i esgor. Pan glywodd hi'r newydd fod arch Duw wedi ei chymryd a bod ei thad-yng-nghyfraith a'i gu373?r wedi marw, crymodd ac esgorodd, oherwydd daeth ei gwewyr arni.
20About the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, “Don’t be afraid; for you have given birth to a son.” But she didn’t answer, neither did she regard it.
20 Ac fel yr oedd hi'n marw, dywedodd y merched oedd o'i chwmpas, "Paid ag ofni, rwyt ti wedi esgor ar fab." Nid atebodd hi na chymryd sylw,
21She named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel”; because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
21 ond enwi'r bachgen, Ichabod, a dweud, "Ciliodd gogoniant o Israel," oherwydd colli arch Duw a'i thad-yng-nghyfraith a'i gu373?r.
22She said, “The glory has departed from Israel; for the ark of God is taken.”
22 Dyna a ddywedodd, "Ciliodd gogoniant o Israel, oherwydd cymryd arch Duw."
