1Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem to his mother’s brothers, and spoke with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,
1 Aeth Abimelech fab Jerwbbaal i Sichem at frodyr ei fam, a dweud wrthynt hwy ac wrth holl dylwyth ei fam,
2“Please speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.”
2 "Yr wyf am i chwi ofyn i holl ben-aethiaid Sichem, 'Prun sydd orau gennych, cael eich llywodraethu gan yr holl ddeg a thrigain o feibion Jerwbbaal, ynteu cael eich llywodraethu gan un dyn? Cofiwch hefyd fy mod i o'r un asgwrn a chnawd chwi.'"
3His mother’s brothers spoke of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, “He is our brother.”
3 Fe siaradodd brodyr ei fam amdano yng nghlyw holl benaethiaid Sichem, a dweud yr holl bethau hyn, ac yr oedd eu calon yn tueddu tuag at Abimelech am eu bod yn meddwl, "Y mae'n frawd i ni."
4They gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Baal Berith, with which Abimelech hired vain and light fellows, who followed him.
4 Rhoesant iddo ddeg a thrigain o ddarnau arian o deml Baal-berith, ac hwy fe gyflogodd Abimelech ddynion ofer a gwyllt i'w ddilyn.
5He went to his father’s house at Ophrah, and killed his brothers the sons of Jerubbaal, being seventy persons, on one stone: but Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.
5 Aeth i du375? ei dad yn Offra, a lladd ar yr un maen bob un o'i frodyr, sef deng mab a thrigain Jerwbbaal. Ond arbedwyd Jotham, mab ieuengaf Jerwbbaal, am iddo ymguddio.
6All the men of Shechem assembled themselves together, and all the house of Millo, and went and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar that was in Shechem.
6 Yna daeth holl benaethiaid Sichem a phawb o Beth-milo ynghyd, a mynd a gwneud Abimelech yn frenin, ger y dderwen a osodwyd i fyny yn Sichem.
7When they told it to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said to them, “Listen to me, you men of Shechem, that God may listen to you.
7 Pan ddywedwyd hyn wrth Jotham, fe aeth ef a sefyll ar gopa Mynydd Garisim a gweiddi'n uchel. Meddai wrthynt, "Gwrandewch arnaf fi, chwi benaethiaid Sichem, er mwyn i Dduw wrando arnoch chwithau.
8The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said to the olive tree, ‘Reign over us.’
8 Daeth y coed at ei gilydd i eneinio un o'u plith yn frenin.
9“But the olive tree said to them, ‘Should I leave my fatness, with which by me they honor God and man, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’
9 Dywedasant wrth yr olewydden, 'Bydd di yn frenin arnom.' Ond atebodd yr olewydden, 'A adawaf fi fy mraster, yr anrhydeddir Duw a dynion trwyddo, a mynd i lywodraethu ar y coed?'
10“The trees said to the fig tree, ‘Come and reign over us.’
10 Yna dywedodd y coed wrth y ffigysbren, 'Tyrd di; bydd yn frenin arnom.'
11“But the fig tree said to them, ‘Should I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’
11 Atebodd y ffigysbren, 'A adawaf fi fy melystra a'm ffrwyth hyfryd, a mynd i lywodraethu ar y coed?'
12“The trees said to the vine, ‘Come and reign over us.’
12 Dywedodd y coed wrth y winwydden, 'Tyrd di; bydd yn frenin arnom.'
13“The vine said to them, ‘Should I leave my new wine, which cheers God and man, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’
13 Ond atebodd y winwydden, 'A adawaf fi fy ngwin melys, sy'n llonni Duw a dyn, a mynd i lywodraethu ar y coed?'
14“Then all the trees said to the bramble, ‘Come and reign over us.’
14 Yna dywedodd yr holl goed wrth y fiaren, 'Tyrd di; bydd yn frenin arnom.'
15“The bramble said to the trees, ‘If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’
15 Ac meddai'r fiaren wrth y coed, 'Os ydych o ddifrif am f'eneinio i yn frenin arnoch, dewch a llochesu yn fy nghysgod. Onid e, fe ddaw tn allan o'r fiaren a difa cedrwydd Lebanon.'
16“Now therefore, if you have dealt truly and righteously, in that you have made Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him according to the deserving of his hands
16 "Yn awr, a ydych wedi gweithredu'n onest a chydwybodol wrth wneud Abimelech yn frenin? A ydych wedi delio'n deg Jerwbbaal a'i deulu? Ai'r hyn a haeddai a wnaethoch iddo?
17(for my father fought for you, and risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:
17 Oherwydd brwydrodd fy nhad drosoch, a mentro'i einioes a'ch achub o law Midian;
18and you have risen up against my father’s house this day, and have slain his sons, seventy persons, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother);
18 ond heddiw yr ydych wedi codi yn erbyn tu375? fy nhad a lladd ei feibion, deg a thrigain o wu375?r, ar un maen. Yr ydych wedi gwneud Abimelech, mab ei gaethferch, yn frenin ar benaethiaid Sichem, am ei fod yn frawd i chwi.
19if you then have dealt truly and righteously with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:
19 Os ydych wedi delio'n onest a chydwybodol Jerwbbaal a'i deulu heddiw, llawenhewch yn Abimelech, a bydded iddo yntau lawenhau ynoch chwi.
20but if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.”
20 Onid e, aed tn allan o Abimelech a difa penaethiaid Sichem a Beth-milo; hefyd aed tn allan o benaethiaid Sichem a Beth-milo a difa Abimelech."
21Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and lived there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.
21 Yna ciliodd Jotham, a ffoi i Beer ac aros yno, o gyrraedd ei frawd Abimelech.
22Abimelech was prince over Israel three years.
22 Wedi i Abimelech deyrnasu am dair blynedd ar Israel,
23God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:
23 anfonodd Duw ysbryd cynnen rhwng Abimelech a phenaethiaid Sichem, a throesant yn annheyrngar iddo.
24that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and that their blood might be laid on Abimelech their brother, who killed them, and on the men of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to kill his brothers.
24 Digwyddodd hyn er mwyn i'r trais a wnaed ar ddeng mab a thrigain Jerwbbaal, a'r tywallt gwaed, ddisgyn ar eu brawd Abimelech, a'u lladdodd, ac ar benaethiaid Sichem, a fu'n ei gynorthwyo i ladd ei frodyr.
25The men of Shechem set an ambush for him on the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all who came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.
25 Gosododd penaethiaid Sichem rai ar bennau'r mynyddoedd i wylio amdano; yr oeddent hwy'n ysbeilio pawb a ddi heibio iddynt ar y ffyrdd, a dywedwyd am hyn wrth Abimelech.
26Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brothers, and went over to Shechem; and the men of Shechem put their trust in him.
26 Pan ddaeth Gaal fab Ebed a'i gymrodyr drosodd i Sichem, enillodd ymddiriedaeth penaethiaid Sichem.
27They went out into the field, and harvested their vineyards, and trod the grapes, and held festival, and went into the house of their god, and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.
27 Wedi iddynt fod allan yn y maes yn cynaeafu eu gwinllannoedd ac yn sathru'r grawnwin, cadwasant u373?yl o lawenydd a mynd i deml eu duw gan fwyta ac yfed, ac yna difenwi Abimelech.
28Gaal the son of Ebed said, “Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Isn’t he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? Serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: but why should we serve him?
28 Ac meddai Gaal fab Ebed, "Pwy yw Abimelech a phwy yw pobl Sichem, fel ein bod ni yn ei wasanaethu ef? Oni ddylai mab Jerwbbaal a'i oruchwyliwr Sebul wasanaethu gwu375?r Hemor tad Sichem? Pam y dylem ni ei wasanaethu ef?
29Would that this people were under my hand! Then I would remove Abimelech.” He said to Abimelech, “Increase your army, and come out!”
29 O na fyddai'r bobl yma dan fy awdurdod i! Mi symudwn i Abimelech. Dywedwn wrtho, 'Cynydda dy fyddin a thyrd allan.'"
30When Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.
30 Pan glywodd Sebul, goruchwyliwr y ddinas, eiriau Gaal fab Ebed, fe wylltiodd.
31He sent messengers to Abimelech craftily, saying, “Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brothers have come to Shechem; and behold, they incite the city against you.
31 Anfonodd negeswyr at Abimelech i Aruma a dweud, "Edrych, y mae Gaal fab Ebed a'i gymrodyr wedi dod i Sichem, ac yn troi'r dref yn d'erbyn.
32Now therefore, go up by night, you and the people who are with you, and lie in wait in the field:
32 Yn awr, cychwyn di liw nos gyda'r bobl sydd gennyt, ac ymguddia allan yn y wlad;
33and it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, you shall rise early, and rush on the city; and behold, when he and the people who are with him come out against you, then may you do to them as you shall find occasion.”
33 yna, yfory ar godiad haul, gwna gyrch cynnar ar y dref, a phan ddaw ef a'r bobl sydd gydag ef allan i'th gyfarfod, gwna dithau iddo orau y medri."
34Abimelech rose up, and all the people who were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.
34 Cych-wynnodd Abimelech a'r holl bobl oedd gydag ef liw nos, ac ymguddio yn bedair mintai yn erbyn Sichem.
35Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people who were with him, from the ambush.
35 Pan aeth Gaal fab Ebed allan a sefyll ym mynediad porth y dref, cododd Abimelech a'r dynion oedd gydag ef o'u cuddfan.
36When Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, “Behold, people are coming down from the tops of the mountains.” Zebul said to him, “You see the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.”
36 Gwelodd Gaal y bobl a dywedodd wrth Sebul, "Edrych, y mae pobl yn dod i lawr o gopaon y mynyddoedd." Ond dywedodd Sebul wrtho, "Gweld cysgod y mynyddoedd fel pobl yr wyt."
37Gaal spoke again and said, “Behold, people are coming down by the middle of the land, and one company comes by the way of the oak of Meonenim.”
37 Yna dywedodd Gaal eto, "Y mae yna bobl yn dod i lawr o ganol y wlad, ac un fintai'n dod o gyfeiriad Derwen y Swynwyr."
38Then Zebul said to him, “Now where is your mouth, that you said, ‘Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?’ Isn’t this the people that you have despised? Please go out now and fight with them.”
38 Atebodd Sebul, "Ple'n awr, ynteu, y mae dy geg fawr oedd yn dweud, 'Pwy yw Abimelech, fel ein bod ni yn ei wasanaethu?' Onid dyma'r fyddin y buost yn ei dilorni? Allan thi yn awr i ymladd hi!"
39Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
39 Arweiniodd Gaal benaethiaid Sichem allan, ac ymladd ag Abimelech.
40Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many fell wounded, even to the entrance of the gate.
40 Aeth Abimelech ar ei l, a ffodd yntau; ond cwympodd llawer yn glwyfedig hyd at fynediad y porth.
41Abimelech lived at Arumah: and Zebul drove out Gaal and his brothers, that they should not dwell in Shechem.
41 Arhosodd Abimelech yn Aruma, a gyrrwyd Gaal a'i gymrodyr ymaith gan Sebul rhag iddynt aros yn Sichem.
42It happened on the next day, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.
42 Trannoeth aeth pobl Sichem allan i'r maes, a hysbyswyd Abimelech.
43He took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field; and he looked, and behold, the people came forth out of the city; He rose up against them, and struck them.
43 Cymerodd yntau fyddin, a'i rhannu'n dair mintai ac ymguddio yn y maes, a phan welodd y bobl yn dod allan o'r dref, cododd yn eu herbyn a'u taro.
44Abimelech, and the companies that were with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and the two companies rushed on all who were in the field, and struck them.
44 Ymosododd Abimelech a'r fintai oedd gydag ef, a sefyll ym mynediad porth y dref, ac yr oedd dwy fintai yn ymosod ar bawb oedd yn y maes ac yn eu taro.
45Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and killed the people who were therein: and he beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
45 Brwydrodd Abimelech yn erbyn y dref ar hyd y diwrnod hwnnw, a chipiodd hi a lladd y bobl oedd ynddi. Distrywiodd y dref a'i hau halen.
46When all the men of the tower of Shechem heard of it, they entered into the stronghold of the house of Elberith.
46 Pan glywodd holl benaethiaid Tu373?r Sichem, aethant i ddaeargell teml El-berith.
47It was told Abimelech that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.
47 Dywedwyd wrth Abimelech fod penaethiaid Tu373?r Sichem i gyd wedi ymgasglu,
48Abimelech went up to Mount Zalmon, he and all the people who were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it up, and laid it on his shoulder: and he said to the people who were with him, “What you have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done!”
48 ac aeth ef a phawb o'r fyddin oedd gydag ef i Fynydd Salmon. Cymerodd Abimelech un o'r bwyeill yn ei law, a thorri cangen o'r coed, a'i chodi a'i gosod ar ei ysgwydd. Yna dywedodd wrth y bobl oedd gydag ef, "Brysiwch, gwnewch yr un fath mi."
49All the people likewise each cut down his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them at the base of the stronghold, and set the stronghold on fire on them; so that all the people of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
49 Felly torrodd pob un o'r bobl ei gangen a dilyn Abimelech; rhoesant hwy dros y ddaeargell, a'i llosgi uwch eu pennau. Bu farw pawb oedd yn Nhu373?r Sichem, oddeutu mil o wu375?r a gwragedd.
50Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.
50 Yna aeth Abimelech i Thebes a gwersyllu yn ei herbyn a'i hennill.
51But there was a strong tower within the city, and there fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut themselves in, and went up to the roof of the tower.
51 Yr oedd tu373?r cadarn yng nghanol y dref, a ffodd y gwu375?r a'r gwragedd i gyd yno, a holl benaethiaid y dref, a chloi arnynt ac esgyn i do'r tu373?r.
52Abimelech came to the tower, and fought against it, and drew near to the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
52 Daeth Abimelech at y tu373?r, ac ymladd yn ei erbyn; ac wrth iddo agosu at fynediad y tu373?r i'w losgi,
53A certain woman cast an upper millstone on Abimelech’s head, and broke his skull.
53 taflodd rhyw wraig faen melin i lawr ar ben Abimelech a dryllio'i benglog.
54Then he called hastily to the young man his armor bearer, and said to him, “Draw your sword, and kill me, that men not say of me, ‘A woman killed him.’ His young man thrust him through, and he died.”
54 Ar unwaith galwodd ei lanc, a oedd yn cludo'i arfau, a dweud wrtho, "Tyn dy gleddyf a lladd fi, rhag iddynt ddweud amdanaf mai gwraig a'm lladdodd." Felly trywanodd ei lanc ef, a bu farw.
55When the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man to his place.
55 Pan welodd yr Israeliaid fod Abimelech wedi marw, aeth pawb adref.
56Thus God requited the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did to his father, in killing his seventy brothers;
56 Felly y talodd Duw i Abimelech am y drygioni a wnaeth i'w dad trwy ladd ei ddeg brawd a thrigain.
57and all the wickedness of the men of Shechem did God requite on their heads: and on them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
57 Hefyd talodd Duw yn l holl ddrygioni pobl Sichem, a disgynnodd arnynt felltith Jotham fab Jerwbbaal.
