1It happened, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, that Joab led forth the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. Joab struck Rabbah, and overthrew it.
1در بهار سال، یعنی در موسمی که پادشاهان اکثراً برای جنگ می روند، یوآب با قوای خود شهرهای عمونیان را تار و مار ساخت. شهر رَبه را محاصره و فتح کرد. در عین حال، خود داود در اورشلیم ماند. یوآب به شهر رَبه حمله و آنرا به خرابه ای تبدیل کرد.
2David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set on David’s head: and he brought forth the spoil of the city, exceeding much.
2وقتی داود به آنجا آمد، تاج پادشاه شان را گرفت و بر سر خود گذاشت. وزن طلای آن تاج در حدود سی و چهار کیلوگرام و با جواهرات قیمتی مزین شده بود. داود غنیمت زیادی با خود بُرد
3He brought forth the people who were therein, and cut them with saws, and with iron picks, and with axes. David did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
3و باشندگان آن شهر را هم اسیر گرفت و از آن ها با اره، تیشه و تبر کار می گرفت. به این ترتیب، با تمام شهرهای عمونیان همین معامله را کرد. بعد داود و همه سپاه اسرائیل به اورشلیم برگشتند.
4It happened after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines: then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, of the sons of the giant; and they were subdued.
4جنگ دیگر آن ها با فلسطینی ها بود. این جنگ در جازِر بوقوع پیوست و سِبکای حوشاتی، سِفای را که یک غول پیکر فلسطینی بود، کشت و در نتیجه فلسطینی ها شکست خوردند.
5There was again war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
5باز در یک جنگ دیگر با فلسطینی ها، اَلحانان، پسر یاعیر، لحمی را که برادر جُلیات جتی بود و نیزه ای به اندازۀ چوب کارگاه بافندگی داشت، بقتل رساند.
6There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were twenty-four, six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was born to the giant.
6در یک جنگ دیگر مردی قوی هیکل که دارای بیست و چهار انگشت و پنجه بود، یعنی شش انگشت در هر دست و شش پنجه در هر پا داشت و او هم یکی از غول پیکرهای فلسطینی بود،
7When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother killed him.
7وقتی مردم اسرائیل را تحقیر کرد، یُوناتان، پسر شِمعا، برادر داود، او را کشت.این سه مرد غول پیکر که به دست داود و عساکر او کشته شدند، از نسل غول پیکران جَت بودند.
8These were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
