¹Follow after love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

¹پس همیشه در پی محبت باشید و در عین حال مشتاق دریافت عطایای روح القدس و مخصوصاً عطیۀ پیشگویی باشید،

²For he who speaks in another language speaks not to men, but to God; for no one understands; but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.

²زیرا کسی که به زبان ها سخن می گوید، روی سخن او با خداست نه با مردم، چون دیگران آنچه را که او می گوید نمی فهمند. زیرا او با قدرت روح القدس اسرار خدا را به زبان می آورد،

³But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation, and consolation.

³اما از طرف دیگر آنکه پیشگویی می کند، برای تقویت و تشویق و تسلی دیگران با آن ها سخن می گوید.

⁴He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly.

⁴کسی که به زبان ها سخن می گوید، تنها خود را تقویت می کند، ولی کسی که پیشگویی می کند، کلیسا را تقویت می نماید.

⁵Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but rather that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.

⁵اگر همۀ شما به زبان ها سخن گوئید خوشحالم، ولی بهتر می دانم که همۀ شما پیشگویی کنید؛ زیرا اهمیت کسی که پیشگویی می کند، از کسی که به زبان ها سخن می گوید بیشتر است، مگر اینکه کسی بتواند سخن او را ترجمه نماید تا کلیسا تقویت شود.

⁶But now, brothers, The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?

⁶پس ای برادران، اگر من پیش شما بیایم و به زبان ها سخن بگویم چه نفعی برای شما خواهم داشت؟ هیچ! مگر اینکه برای شما مکاشفه ای یا معرفتی یا پیامی یا تعلیمی از جانب خدا بیاورم.

⁷Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they didn’t give a distinction in the sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped?

⁷حتی سازهای بی جان مثل نی یا چنگ، اگر بطور شمرده و واضح نواخته نشوند، چگونه شنوندگان درک نمایند که آهنگ آن ها چیست؟

⁸For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war?

⁸باز هم اگر شیپور صدایی نامفهوم بدهد، کیست که خود را آمادۀ جنگ سازد؟

⁹So also you, unless you uttered by the tongue words easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air.

⁹همچنین اگر شما به زبان ها سخنان نامفهوم بگوئید، چگونه دیگران بفهمند چه می گوئید؟ دراین صورت سخنان شما باد هوا خواهد بود.

¹⁰There are, it may be, so many kinds of sounds in the world, and none of them is without meaning.

¹⁰در دنیا، زبان های مختلف بسیار است، اما هیچ یک از آن ها بی معنی نیست.

¹¹If then I don’t know the meaning of the sound, I would be to him who speaks a foreigner, and he who speaks would be a foreigner to me.

¹¹اما اگر من زبانی را که با آن صحبت می شود، نفهمم نسبت به گویندۀ آن بیگانه خواهم بود و او نیز نسبت به من بیگانه است.

¹²So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the building up of the assembly.

¹²چون شما اشتیاق دارید صاحب عطایای روح باشید، بکوشید بیشتر عطایایی را بیابید که باعث تقویت و پیشرفت کلیسا می باشد.

¹³Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret.

¹³بنابراین آن کسی که به زبان ها سخن می گوید، باید دعا کند که قادر به ترجمۀ پیام خود باشد.

¹⁴For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

¹⁴زیرا اگر من به زبان ها دعا کنم، روح من مشغول دعاست ولی عقل من در آن نقشی ندارد.

¹⁵What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

¹⁵پس چه کنم؟ من با روح خود دعا می کنم و در عین حال با عقل و فهم خود نیز دعا خواهم کرد و به همین طریق سرود حمد خواهم خواند، یعنی با روح خود و با فکر خود نیز.

¹⁶Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, seeing he doesn’t know what you say?

¹⁶در غیر این صورت اگر خدا را در روح سپاسگزاری می کنید، آن کسی که دارای هدایای روح نیست، چگونه نسبت به دعای سپاسگزاری شما آمین بگوید، زیرا او آنچه را که شما می گوئید نمی فهمد.

¹⁷For you most certainly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up.

¹⁷قبول دارم که به طرز جالبی سپاسگزاری می کنید، ولی اگر باعث تقویت دیگران نیست چه فایده!

¹⁸I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all.

¹⁸خدا را شکر که من بیش از همۀ شما به زبان ها سخن می گویم،

¹⁹However in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.

¹⁹اما در عبادت کلیسایی گفتن پنج کلمۀ با معنی را برای تعلیم دیگران، از گفتن ده هزار کلمه به زبانی نامفهوم بهتر می دانم.

²⁰Brothers, don’t be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature.

²⁰ای برادران، در عقل مانند کودکان نباشید؛ اما نسبت به بدی و شرارت مثل یک نوزاد بمانید و در عقل اشخاص بالغ باشید.

²¹In the law it is written, “By men of strange languages and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people. Not even thus will they hear me, says the Lord.” Isaiah 28:11-12

²¹در تورات نوشته شده است:«خداوند می گوید که من به زبان های بیگانه و از لبان بیگانگان با این قوم سخن خواهم گفت و با وجود این آن ها به من گوش نخواهند داد.»

²²Therefore other languages are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe.

²²مطابق این کلام، عطیۀ زبان ها نشانه ای است برای بی ایمانان نه برای ایمانداران، حال آنکه پیشگویی برای ایمانداران است، نه برای بی ایمانان.

²³If therefore the whole assembly is assembled together and all speak with other languages, and unlearned or unbelieving people come in, won’t they say that you are crazy?

²³پس اگر تمام کلیسا جمع شوند و به زبان ها سخن بگویند و در همان وقت اشخاصی که بی اطلاع یا بی ایمان باشند به مجلس شما وارد شوند، آیا آن ها نخواهند گفت که همۀ شما دیوانه هستید؟

²⁴But if all prophesy, and someone unbelieving or unlearned comes in, he is reproved by all, and he is judged by all.

²⁴اما اگر همۀ شما پیشگویی کنید و شخص نو ایمان یا بی ایمان به مجلس شما داخل شود، آنچه را او می شنود، او را به گناهانش آگاه می سازد و به وسیلۀ سخنانی که می شنود داوری می شود،

²⁵And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed. So he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.

²⁵و اندیشه های پنهانی او فاش خواهد شد و به زانو درآمده خدا را پرستش خواهد کرد و اعتراف می کند که واقعاً خدا در میان شماست.

²⁶What is it then, brothers? When you come together, each one of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has another language, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to build each other up.

²⁶ای برادران، منظور من چیست؟ مقصودم این است که وقتی دور هم جمع می شوید، هرکس سرودی یا تعلیمی یا مکاشفه ای یا سخنی به زبان ها یا ترجمۀ زبان را داشته باشد، همۀ اینها باید به منظور تقویت همه انجام شود.

²⁷If any man speaks in another language, let it be two, or at the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret.

²⁷و اگر می خواهید به زبان ها سخن گوئید، دو یا سه نفر بیشتر نباشد و یکی بعد از دیگری سخن بگوید و آن هم با ترجمه باشد.

²⁸But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the assembly, and let him speak to himself, and to God.

²⁸اگر ترجمه کننده ای در آنجا حاضر نباشد، هیچ کس نباید در مجلس کلیسا به زبان ها صحبت کند، مگر اینکه صحبت او بین او و خدا باشد.

²⁹Let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern.

²⁹آن دو یا سه نفری که قرار است پیشگویی کنند، صحبت نمایند و دیگران دربارۀ گفتار ایشان قضاوت کنند.

³⁰But if a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first keep silent.

³⁰اما اگر مکاشفه ای به یکی از حاضران مجلس برسد، آن کسی که مشغول سخن گفتن است خاموش شود.

³¹For you all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted.

³¹به این ترتیب شما می توانید یکی بعد از دیگری برای تعلیم و تقویت همه سخن بگوئید،

³²The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets,

³²زیرا عطیۀ پیشگویی باید تحت اختیار گویندۀ آن باشد،

³³for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the assemblies of the saints,

³³چون خدا، خدای هرج و مرج نیست، بلکه خدای نظم و آرامش است. چنانکه در تمام کلیساهای مقدسین رواج است.

³⁴let your wives keep silent in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as the law also says.

³⁴زنان در کلیسا خاموش باشند، زیرا اجازۀ سخن گفتن ندارند؛ بلکه مطابق آنچه تورات نیز می گوید، زنان مُطیع باشند.

³⁵If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a woman to chatter in the assembly.

³⁵اگر می خواهند دربارۀ امری چیزی بدانند، در خانه از شوهران خود بپرسند، زیرا برای زن شایسته نیست که در کلیسا سخن بگوید.

³⁶What? Was it from you that the word of God went out? Or did it come to you alone?

³⁶آیا گمان می کنید که پیام خدا از شما شروع شده است؟ و یا پیام او تنها به شما رسیده است؟

³⁷If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.

³⁷اگر کسی خود را نبی بخواند یا دارای عطایای روحانی دیگر بداند، باید تصدیق کند که آنچه را می نویسم امر خداوند است.

³⁸But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

³⁸و اگر کسی به این امر بی اعتنایی کند، نسبت به او نیز بی اعتنایی خواهد شد.

³⁹Therefore, brothers, desire earnestly to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking with other languages.

³⁹خلاصه ای برادران من، شوق به عطیۀ پیشگویی داشته باشید و در عین حال سخن گفتن به زبان ها را منع نکنید.اما همۀ کارها باید با نظم و ترتیب انجام شود.

⁴⁰Let all things be done decently and in order.
