¹Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.

¹هرکه ایمان دارد که عیسی، مسیح است، فرزند خداست و هرکه پدر را دوست دارد، فرزند او را نیز دوست خواهد داشت.

²By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.

²ما چگونه می دانیم که فرزندان خدا را دوست داریم؟ از اینکه خدا را دوست داریم و مطابق احکام او عمل می کنیم.

³For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.

³زیرا محبت به خدا چیزی جز اطاعت از احکام او نیست و این احکام بار سنگینی نیست،

⁴For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.

⁴زیرا همۀ فرزندان خدا بر این دنیا غلبه یافته اند و ما این پیروزی را به وسیلۀ ایمان به دست آورده ایم.

⁵Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

⁵و کسی بر دنیا پیروز نمی شود مگر آن کسی که ایمان دارد که عیسی، پسر خداست!

⁶This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

⁶عیسی مسیح اوست که با آب و خون آمد. آمدن او نه تنها با آب، بلکه هم با آب و هم با خونِ خودش ثابت گردید. روح است که شهادت می دهد، زیرا روح، حق است.

⁷For there are three who testify Only a few recent manuscripts add “in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that testify on earth” :

⁷پس سه شاهد وجود دارند:

⁸the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.

⁸روح و آب و خون؛ و شهادت این سه با هم یکی است.

⁹If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God’s testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.

⁹ما که شهادت انسان را می پذیریم، با شهادت خدا که قویتر است چه خواهیم کرد؟ و این شهادتی است که او برای پسر خود داده است.

¹⁰He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn’t believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.

¹⁰هرکه به پسر خدا ایمان آورد، این شاهد را در دل خود دارد، اما هرکه شهادت خدا را قبول نکند و گواهی او را در مورد پسرش نپذیرد، خدا را دروغگو شمرده است.

¹¹The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

¹¹شهادت این است که خدا به ما زندگی ابدی داده است و این زندگی در پسر او است.

¹²He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’t have God’s Son doesn’t have the life.

¹²هرکه پسر را دارد، زندگی دارد و هر که پسر را ندارد، صاحب زندگی نیست.

¹³These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

¹³این رساله را نوشتم تا شما که به نام پسر خدا ایمان دارید، یقین داشته باشید که زندگی ابدی دارید.

¹⁴This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.

¹⁴اطمینان ما در حضور خدا این است که اگر از او چیزی بخواهیم که مطابق ارادۀ او باشد، به ما گوش می دهد.

¹⁵And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

¹⁵ما می دانیم که هرچه بخواهیم او به ما گوش می دهد. پس این را هم باید بدانیم که آنچه از او بطلبیم به ما عطا می فرماید.

¹⁶If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don’t say that he should make a request concerning this.

¹⁶اگر کسی می بیند که برادر او مرتکب گناهی شده است که منجر به مرگ نیست، باید برای او به درگاه خداوند دعا کند و اگر آن شخص مرتکب چنین گناهی نشده باشد، خدا به او زندگی خواهد بخشید. اما گناهی هم هست که به مرگ منجر می شود و من نمی گویم که در مورد آن دعا کنید.

¹⁷All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.

¹⁷البته هر خطایی گناه است، اما هر گناهی منجر به مرگ نمی شود.

¹⁸We know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him.

¹⁸ما می دانیم که آنکه از خدا تولد یافته باشد در گناه زندگی نمی کند، زیرا پسر خدا او را حفظ می کند و شیطان به او دسترسی ندارد.

¹⁹We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

¹⁹می دانیم که ما فرزندان خدا هستیم، در حالیکه تمام دنیا تحت تسلط شیطان است.

²⁰We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

²⁰ما می دانیم که پسر خدا آمده و به ما فهم آن را داده است که خدای حقیقی را بشناسیم، ما با خدای حقیقی و با پسر او عیسی مسیح متحد هستیم. این است خدای حقیقی و این است زندگی ابدی.ای فرزندان من، از بتها دوری کنید.
