¹Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite:

¹رامه تایم صوفیم شهری بود در کوهستان افرایم. در این شهر مردی زندگی می کرد بنام اَلقانَه از قبیلۀ افرایم که پدرش یِروحَم، پدر کلانش الیهو و از خانوادۀ توحو پسر صوف بود.

²and he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

²اَلقانَه دو زن داشت به نامهای حَنّه و فَنِینه. فَنِینه دارای اولاد بود، ولی حَنّه اولاد نداشت.

³This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. of Armies in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.

³اَلقانَه هر سال برای عبادت و ادای قربانی بحضور خداوند قادر مطلق از شهر خود به شیلوه می رفت. در آنجا دو پسر عیلی بنامهای حُفنی و فینِحاس بعنوان کاهنان خداوند اجرای وظیفه می کردند.

⁴When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

⁴اَلقانَه هر وقتیکه قربانی می کرد، از گوشت آن به زن خود فَنِینه و همه پسران و دختران خود یک حصه می داد.

⁵but to Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but Yahweh had shut up her womb.

⁵اما چون حَنّه را دوست داشت و هم بخاطریکه آن زن بی اولاد بود، به او یک حصه اضافه تر می داد.

⁶Her rival provoked her severely, to make her fret, because Yahweh had shut up her womb.

⁶چون خداوند حَنّه را از داشتن اولاد بی بهره ساخته بود، فَنِینه، رقیب او همیشه او را طعنه می داد و جگرش را خون می کرد.

⁷As he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Yahweh, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.

⁷این کار هر ساله تکرار می شد. هر وقتیکه به عبادتگاه خداوند می رفت، فَنِینه ریشخندش می کرد و او را بگریه می آورد و در نتیجه، چیزی نمی خورد.

⁸Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

⁸شوهرش از او می پرسید: «چرا گریه می کنی و چیزی نمی خوری؟ چرا ناحق خود را جگرخون می سازی؟ آیا من برای تو از ده پسر زیادتر نیستم؟»

⁹So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh’s temple.

⁹یک شب زمانی که در شیلوه بودند، حَنّه بعد از صرف غذا برخاست و بیرون رفت. عیلی کاهن در پیش دروازۀ عبادتگاه خداوند نشسته بود.

¹⁰She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, and wept bitterly.

¹⁰حَنّه در حالیکه با سوز دل بدرگاه خدا دعا می کرد، زار زار می گریست

¹¹She vowed a vow, and said, “Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

¹¹و در همان حال نذر گرفت و گفت: «ای خداوند قادر مطلق، بر منِ غمزده رحم نما. دعایم را بپذیر و پسری به من عطا فرما و قول می دهم که او را وقف تو کنم و تا که زنده باشد، موی سر او تراشیده نشود.»

¹²It happened, as she continued praying before Yahweh, that Eli saw her mouth.

¹²حَنّه در حالیکه هنوز دعا می کرد، عیلی متوجه او شد و دید که لبهایش حرکت می کند.

¹³Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

¹³چون حَنّه در دل خود دعا می کرد، صدایش شنیده نمی شد و تنها لبهایش تکان می خورد. عیلی فکر کرد که او مست است.

¹⁴Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you.”

¹⁴به حَنّه گفت: «مستی تا بکی؟ شرابت را از خود دور کن.» حَنّه جواب داد:

¹⁵Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.

¹⁵«نخیر آقا، نه مست هستم و نه شراب خورده ام، بلکه شخص مصیبت زده ای هستم که با خداوند خود راز و نیاز می کنم.

¹⁶Don’t count your handmaid for a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”

¹⁶فکر نکنی که من یک زن هرجائی هستم. من از بخت بد خود می نالم.»

¹⁷Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”

¹⁷عیلی گفت: «بسلامت برو! خدای اسرائیل بمرادت برساند.»

¹⁸She said, “Let your handmaid find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way, and ate; and her facial expression wasn’t sad any more.

¹⁸حَنّه گفت: «از لطفی که به این کنیزت داری، تشکر می کنم.» بعد حَنّه بخانه رفت. کمی غذا خورد و دیگر آثار غم در چهره اش دیده نمی شد.

¹⁹They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before Yahweh, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Yahweh remembered her.

¹⁹صبح وقت روز دیگر همه برخاستند و به عبادت خداوند پرداختند. بعد به خانۀ خود در شهر رامه بر گشتند. اَلقانَه با زن خود، حَنّه همبستر شد. خداوند دعای قبلی حَنّه را قبول فرمود،

²⁰It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, Samuel sounds like the Hebrew for “heard by God.” saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”

²⁰زیرا پس از مدتی حَنّه حامله شد و پسری بدنیا آورد و او را سموئیل (یعنی، خواسته از خدا) نامید، زیرا گفت: «از خداوند خواسته ام.»

²¹The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

²¹آنگاه اَلقانَه با تمام خانواده اش به شیلوه رفتند تا مراسم قربانی سالانه را بحضور خداوند تقدیم کنند و همچنان نذر خود را هم بدهند.

²²But Hannah didn’t go up; for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Yahweh, and stay there forever.”

²²اما حَنّه با آن ها نرفت و به شوهر خود گفت: «بمجردیکه طفل از شیر جدا شد او را می برم و وقف عبادتگاه خداوند می کنم و تا که زنده است در همانجا بماند.»

²³Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Yahweh establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.

²³اَلقانَه گفت: «بسیار خوب، صبر کن تا طفل از شیر جدا شود، بعد هرچه که رضای خداوند باشد، ما قبول داریم.» پس حَنّه همانجا ماند و تا که طفل از شیر جدا شد، از او پرستاری کرد.

²⁴When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him to Yahweh’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.

²⁴بعد طفل خود را که هنوز بسیار کوچک بود، گرفته با یک گوسالۀ سه ساله، یک جوال آرد و یک مشک شراب به عبادتگاه خداوند در شیلوه رفت.

²⁵They killed the bull, and brought the child to Eli.

²⁵در آنجا گوساله را ذبح کرد و طفل را پیش عیلی برد

²⁶She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Yahweh.

²⁶و گفت: «آقا، آیا مرا بخاطر داری؟ من همان زن هستم که دیدی در همینجا ایستاده بودم و بدربار خداوند دعا می کردم.

²⁷For this child I prayed; and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.

²⁷و این طفل را که می بینی از او می خواستم و او دعایم را پذیرفت و بمرادم رساند.حالا می خواهم او را وقف خداوند کنم و تا که زنده است در خدمت او باشد.» پس همگی خداوند را در همانجا پرستش کردند.

²⁸Therefore also I have granted him to Yahweh. As long as he lives he is granted to Yahweh.” He worshiped Yahweh there.

²⁸حالا می خواهم او را وقف خداوند کنم و تا که زنده است در خدمت او باشد.» پس همگی خداوند را در همانجا پرستش کردند.
