1Samuel said to Saul, “Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of Yahweh.
1سموئیل به شائول گفت: «خداوند مرا فرستاد که تاج سلطنت را بر سرت بگذارم تا پادشاه اسرائیل باشی. حالا به پیام خداوند قادر مطلق گوش بده
2Thus says Yahweh of Armies, ‘I have marked that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.
2که چنین می فرماید: وقتی که مردم اسرائیل از مصر خارج شدند و می خواستند از سرزمین عمالیق عبور کنند، آن مردم مانع عبور آن ها شدند، بنابران، می خواهم عمالیقیان را بخاطر این کار شان جزا بدهم.
3Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
3پس برو همۀ آن مردم را از بین ببر. زن و مرد، اطفال و کودکان شیرخوار، گاو، گوسفند، شتر و خرهای شان را هم زنده مگذار.»
4Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
4پس شائول سپاه خود را در طَلایم برای جنگ آماده کرد. تعداد عساکر او دو صد هزار پیاده به شمول ده هزار نفر از یهودا بود.
5Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
5شائول به شهر عمالیق داخل شده در یک وادی کمین گرفت.
6Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
6بعد به قَینی ها پیغام فرستاده گفت: «از مردم عمالیق جدا شوید ورنه شما هم با آن ها هلاک خواهید شد، زیرا وقتی که مردم اسرائیل از مصر خارج شدند، شما با آن ها با مهربانی و خوبی رفتار کردید.» پس قَینی ها از مردم عمالیق جدا شدند.
7Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.
7آنگاه شائول به عمالیقیان حمله کرده همه را از حویله تا شور که در شرق مصر است به قتل رساند.
8He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
8اَجاج، پادشاه عمالیق را زنده دستگیر کرد و دیگران را با دَم شمشیر از بین بُرد.
9But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the cattle, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn’t utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
9اما شائول و مردان او اَجاج را نکشتند و همچنین بهترین گوسفندان، گاوها و حیوانات چاق و چله و بره ها و اجناس قیمتی را از بین نبردند. تنها اشیای ناچیز و بی ارزش را نابود کردند.
10Then the word of Yahweh came to Samuel, saying,
10بعد خداوند به سموئیل فرمود: «من از اینکه شائول را به پادشاهی برگزیدم، پشیمان هستم، زیرا او از من اطاعت نمی کند و فرمان مرا بجا نمی آورد.» سموئیل بسیار غمگین و متأثر شد و تمام شب بحضور خداوند گریه و زاری کرد.
11“It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.
11بعد صبحِ وقتِ روز دیگر خواست که بدیدن شائول برود. کسی به او گفت که شائول به کَرمَل رفت تا یک منار یادگار برای خود بسازد و از آنجا به جِلجال رفته است.
12Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”
12سموئیل بالاخره شائول را یافت و شائول به او گفت: «خدا به تو برکت بدهد. ببین من فرمان خداوند را بجا آوردم.»
13Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, “You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”
13سموئیل گفت: «پس اینهمه صدای گوسفند و بانگ گاوها چیست که می شنوم؟»
14Samuel said, “Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”
14شائول جواب داد: «آن ها را از مردم عمالیق به غنیمت گرفته اند. مردان من بهترین گوسفندان و گاوها را نکشتند تا برای خداوند، خدای ما قربانی کنند، مگر همه چیزهای دیگر را بکلی از بین بردیم.»
15Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”
15سموئیل به شائول گفت: «خاموش باش! بشنو که خداوند دیشب به من چه فرمود.» شائول گفت: «خوب، بگو.»
16Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh has said to me last night.” He said to him, “Say on.”
16سموئیل جواب داد: «آن وقتی که تو حتی در نظر خودت شخص ناچیزی بودی، خدا ترا بحیث فرمانروای قوم اسرائیل برگزید و تاج شاهی را بر سرت گذاشت.
17Samuel said, “Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;
17او ترا مأمور ساخته فرمود: «برو عمالیقیان گناهکار را نابود کن و تا وقتی بجنگ که همه هلاک شوند.»
18and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’
18پس چرا از فرمان خداوند اطاعت نکردی؟ چرا دست به تاراج و چپاول زدی و کاری را که در نظر خداوند زشت بود بعمل آوردی؟» شائول در جواب گفت:
19Why then didn’t you obey the voice of Yahweh, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh?”
19«من از امر خداوند اطاعت نمودم. وظیفه ای را که به من سپرده بود، با کمال و تمام اجراء کردم. اَجاج، پادشاه عمالیقیان را اسیر کرده آوردم و مردم عمالیق را بکلی از بین بردم.
20Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
20اما مردم از من خواستند که به آن ها اجازه بدهم بهترین گوسفندان، گاوها و اموالی را که باید از بین می بردند برای خود نگهدارند تا برای خداوند، خدایت در جِلجال قربانی کنند.»
21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and cattle, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God in Gilgal.”
21سموئیل گفت: «آیا خداوند از دادن قربانیها و نذرها خوشنود و راضی می شود یا از اطاعت از او؟ اطاعت بهتر از قربانی کردن است. فرمانبرداری بمراتب خوبتر از چربوی قوچ است.
22Samuel said, “Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
22نافرمانی مثل جادوگری، گناه است. سرکشی مانند شرارت و بت پرستی است. چون تو از فرمان خداوند پیروی نکردی، بنابران، او هم ترا از مقام سلطنت طرد کرده است.»
23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, he has also rejected you from being king.”
23شائول به گناه خود اعتراف کرده گفت: «بلی، من گناهکارم. از فرمان خداوند و حرف تو سرپیچی کرده ام، زیرا من از مردم ترسیدم و مطابق میل آن ها رفتار نمودم.
24Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
24اما خواهش می کنم که گناه مرا ببخشی و همراه من بروی تا خداوند را پرستش کنم.»
25Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.”
25سموئیل جواب داد: «فایده ای ندارد! زیرا تو امر خدا را بجا نیاوردی و خداوند هم ترا از مقام سلطنتِ اسرائیل خلع کرده است.»
26Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of Yahweh, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
26وقتی سموئیل می خواست از پیش او برود، شائول دست بدامن ردای او انداخت و آن پاره شد.
27As Samuel turned about to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.
27سموئیل گفت: «می بینی، امروز خداوند، سلطنت اسرائیل را از تو پاره و جدا کرد و آن را به یک نفر دیگر که از تو بهتر است داد.
28Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.
28و آن خدائی که عظمت و جلال اسرائیل است، دروغ نمی گوید و ارادۀ خود را تغییر نمی دهد، زیرا او بشر نیست که تغییر عقیده بدهد.»
29Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”
29شائول بازهم زاری کرده گفت: «درست است که من گناه کرده ام، اما اقلاً با رفتن خود همراه من برای پرستش خداوند، خدایت، پیش مو سفیدان قوم و مردم اسرائیل مرا محترم بدار.»
30Then he said, “I have sinned: yet please honor me now before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship Yahweh your God.”
30سرانجام سموئیل راضی شد و با او رفت.
31So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.
31بعد سموئیل گفت: «اَجاج، پادشاه عمالیقیان را بحضور من بیاورید.» اَجاج خوشحال و خندان آمد و گفت: «شکر که خطر مرگ از سرم گذشت.»
32Then Samuel said, “Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”
32سموئیل اظهار داشت: «همانطوریکه شمشیر تو مادران را بی اولاد کرد، مادر تو هم مانند همان مادران بی اولاد می شود.» این را گفت و اَجاج را در حضور خداوند در جِلجال قطعه قطعه کرد.
33Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!” Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.
33سموئیل از آنجا به رامه رفت و شائول هم به خانۀ خود به جِبعَه برگشت.سموئیل شائول را تا روز مرگش دیگر ندید، ولی همیشه بخاطر او غمگین بود و خداوند از اینکه شائول را به مقام سلطنت اسرائیل برگزیده بود، اظهار تأسف می کرد.
34Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
34سموئیل شائول را تا روز مرگش دیگر ندید، ولی همیشه بخاطر او غمگین بود و خداوند از اینکه شائول را به مقام سلطنت اسرائیل برگزیده بود، اظهار تأسف می کرد.
35Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul: and Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
