1The ark of Yahweh was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
1صندوق پیمان خداوند مدت هفت ماه در کشور فلسطینی ها ماند.
2The Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, “What shall we do with the ark of Yahweh? Show us with which we shall send it to its place.”
2فلسطینی ها کاهنان و فالگیران خود را فراخوانده گفتند: «با صندوق پیمان خداوند چه کنیم؟ نظریه بدهید که با چه تحفه ای آنرا دوباره بجایش بفرستیم.»
3They said, “If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, don’t send it empty; but by all means return him a trespass offering: then you shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.”
3آن ها گفتند: «اگر می خواهید آنرا بفرستید دست خالی روان نکنید، بلکه آنرا حتماً همراه با صدقۀ گناه بفرستید، در آن صورت شفا می یابید و اگر شفا نیابید، پس معلوم می شود که این بلا از جانب خدا نیست.»
4Then they said, “What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him?” They said, “Five golden tumors, and five golden mice, for the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.
4پرسیدند: «صدقۀ گناه چیست؟» آن ها جواب دادند: «پنج مجسمۀ طلائی از دُمَل و پنج مجسمۀ طلائی از موش را، یعنی یک عدد بخاطر هر یک از حاکمان فلسطینی ها بفرستید، زیرا همین بلا بر سر شما و حاکمان تان آمد.
5Therefore you shall make images of your tumors, and images of your mice that mar the land; and you shall give glory to the God of Israel: perhaps he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.
5شما بايد مجسمهء موشها و دمل را که کشور ما ويران می کنند بسازيد. برعلاوه به خدای اسرائیل حمد و ثنا بفرستید، زیرا ممکن است بار دیگر بلائی بر سر شما و خدای تان بیاورد.
6Why then do you harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had worked wonderfully among them, didn’t they let the people go, and they departed?
6شما نباید مانند مردم مصر و فرعون سرسخت و سرکش باشید، زیرا آن ها از فرمان خدا اطاعت نکردند و به قوم اسرائیل اجازۀ خروج ندادند، بنابران، خداوند آن ها را با بلاهای گوناگون از بین برد.
7“Now therefore take and prepare yourselves a new cart, and two milk cows, on which there has come no yoke; and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them;
7پس بروید و یک کراچی نو را آماده کنید و دو گاو شیری را که یوغ بر گردن شان مانده نشده باشد، به آن کراچی ببندید. گوساله های شان را از آن ها جدا کنید و به طویله برگردانید.
8and take the ark of Yahweh, and lay it on the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which you return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by its side; and send it away, that it may go.
8بعد صندوق پیمان خداوند را بر کراچی بار کنید و مجسمه های طلائی دُمَل و موشها را که بعنوان صدقۀ گناه می فرستید در یک صندوق جداگانه گذاشته در پهلوی صندوق پیمان خداوند قرار دهید. آنگاه گاوها را بگذارید که براه خود بروند.
9Behold; if it goes up by the way of its own border to Beth Shemesh, then he has done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us; it was a chance that happened to us.”
9اگر گاوها از سرحد کشور ما عبور کنند و بطرف بیت شمش بروند، آنگاه می دانیم که خدا آن بلای مدهش را بر سر ما آورد. و اگر به آن راه نروند، پس معلوم است که آن بلاها اتفاقی بوده دست خدا در آن ها دخالتی نداشته است.»
10The men did so, and took two milk cows, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home;
10مردم قرار هدایتی که برای شان داده شده بود عمل کردند. دو گاو شیری را گرفته به کراچی بستند و گوساله های شان را در طویله از آن ها جدا نمودند.
11and they put the ark of Yahweh on the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their tumors.
11صندوق پیمان خداوند را بر عراده بار کردند و همچنان صندوقچه ای را که در آن مجسمه های طلائی دُمَل و موشها بودند در پهلویش قرار دادند.
12The cows took the straight way by the way to Beth Shemesh; they went along the highway, lowing as they went, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them to the border of Beth Shemesh.
12آنگاه گاوها بانگ زده به شاهراه داخل شدند و مستقیماً به طرف بیت شمش حرکت کردند. سرکردگان فلسطینی ها تا سرحد بیت شمش بدنبال آن ها رفتند.
13They of Beth Shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.
13در این وقت مردم بیت شمش مشغول درو کردن گندم بودند. وقتیکه چشم شان بر صندوق افتاد از دیدن آن بسیار خوشحال شدند.
14The cart came into the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they split the wood of the cart, and offered up the cows for a burnt offering to Yahweh.
14کراچی در مزرعۀ شخصی بنام یوشع که از باشندگان بیت شمش بود، داخل شد و در آنجا در کنار یک سنگ بزرگ توقف کرد. مردم چوب کراچی را شکستاندند و با آن آتش روشن کردند و گاوها را به عنوان قربانی سوختنی کشتند.
15The Levites took down the ark of Yahweh, and the coffer that was with it, in which the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth Shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day to Yahweh.
15چند نفر از قبیلۀ لاوی آمدند و صندوق پیمان خداوند و صندوق حاوی مجسمه های طلائی دُمَل و موشها را گرفته بر آن سنگ بزرگ قرار دادند. مردم بیت شمش در همان روز قربانی های سوختنی و قربانی های دیگر هم بحضور خداوند تقدیم کردند.
16When the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.
16پس از آنکه پنج حاکم فلسطینی ها آن مراسم را دیدند، همان روز به عَقرُون برگشتند.
17These are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering to Yahweh: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;
17آن پنج مجسمۀ طلائی دُمَل که فلسطینی ها بعنوان صدقۀ گناه به پیشگاه خداوند فرستادند، از طرف پنج حاکم شهرهای مهم اَشدُود، غزه، اَشقَلُون، جَت و عَقرُون بودند.
18and the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fortified cities and of country villages, even to the great stone, whereon they set down the ark of Yahweh. That stone remains to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh.
18مجسمه های طلائی موش از پنج شهر مستحکم و دهاتی که به وسیلۀ پنج حاکم فلسطینی ها اداره می شدند، نمایندگی می کردند. سنگ بزرگی که بالای آن صندوق پیمان خداوند را قرار دادند، تا به امروز در مزرعۀ یوشع باقی است.
19He struck of the men of Beth Shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of Yahweh, he struck of the people fifty thousand seventy men; and the people mourned, because Yahweh had struck the people with a great slaughter.
19اما خداوند هفتاد نفر از مردم بیت شمش را کشت، زیرا آن ها در صندوق پیمان خداوند نگاه کردند. و مردم بخاطری که خداوند آن هفتاد نفر را هلاک کرد، ماتم گرفتند
20The men of Beth Shemesh said, “Who is able to stand before Yahweh, this holy God? To whom shall he go up from us?”
20و گفتند: «کیست که بتواند بحضور خدای مقدس، خداوند متعال بایستد و این صندوق را از اینجا بکجا بفرستیم؟»بنابران، آن ها قاصدانی را با این پیغام پیش مردم قِریَت یعاریم فرستادند: «فلسطینی ها صندوق پیمان خداوند را واپس روان کردند. بیائید آنرا پیش خود ببرید.»
21They sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath Jearim, saying, “The Philistines have brought back the ark of Yahweh; come down, and bring it up to yourselves.”
21بنابران، آن ها قاصدانی را با این پیغام پیش مردم قِریَت یعاریم فرستادند: «فلسطینی ها صندوق پیمان خداوند را واپس روان کردند. بیائید آنرا پیش خود ببرید.»
