¹The men of Kiriath Jearim came, and fetched up the ark of Yahweh, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Yahweh.

¹چند نفر از قِریَت یعاریم آمدند و صندوق پیمان خداوند را گرفته بخانۀ اَبِیناداب که بر تپه ای بنا یافته بود، بردند. پسرش اَلِعازار را به نگهبانی آن گماشتند.

²It happened, from the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.

²صندوق مذکور مدت بیست سال در آنجا باقی ماند. در خلال آن مدت، تمام مردم اسرائیل غمگین بودند، زیرا خداوند آن ها را فراموش کرده بود.

³Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you do return to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

³آنگاه سموئیل به قوم اسرائیل گفت: «اگر واقعاً می خواهید از صمیم دل بسوی خداوند برگردید، پس خدایان بیگانه و بت عَشتاروت را ترک کنید. تصمیم بگیرید که تنها از خداوند پیروی نمائید و فقط بندۀ او باشید. آنوقت او شما را از دست فلسطینی ها نجات می دهد.»

⁴Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Yahweh only.

⁴قوم اسرائیل قبول کرد و بتهای بَعلیم و عَشتاروت را از بین بردند و تنها به پرستش خداوند پرداختند.

⁵Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you to Yahweh.”

⁵بعد سموئیل گفت: «همۀ قوم اسرائیل را در مِصفه جمع کنید و من بحضور خداوند برای شما دعا می کنم.»

⁶They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

⁶پس آن ها همگی در مِصفه جمع شدند. از چاه آب کشیدند و بحضور خداوند ریختند. همچنان در آن روز همه روزه گرفتند و گفتند: «ما پیش خداوند گناهکار هستیم.» و در شهر مِصفه بود که سموئیل بعنوان داور انتخاب شد.

⁷When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

⁷وقتی فلسطینی ها شنیدند که قوم اسرائیل در مِصفه جمع شده اند، سپاه خود را برای حمله علیه اسرائیل فرستادند. چون قوم اسرائیل خبر شدند که فلسطینی ها آمادۀ حمله هستند، سخت به وحشت افتادند.

⁸The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t cease to cry to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”

⁸لهذا، از سموئیل خواهش کرده گفتند: «بحضور خداوند، خدای ما زاری کن که ما را از دست فلسطینی ها نجات بدهد.»

⁹Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh: and Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel; and Yahweh answered him.

⁹آنوقت سموئیل یک برۀ شیرخوار را گرفته بعنوان قربانی سوختنی و کامل بحضور خداوند تقدیم کرد. بعد از طرف مردم اسرائیل بدرگاه خداوند دعا کرد و خداوند دعای او را قبول فرمود.

¹⁰As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

¹⁰در موقعی که سموئیل مصروف اجرای مراسم قربانی سوختنی بود، فلسطینی ها برای حمله به اسرائیل نزدیکتر می شدند، اما خداوند با آواز مهیب رعد از آسمان آن ها را سراسیمه و دستپاچه ساخت و در نتیجه، قوم اسرائیل آن ها را شکست داد.

¹¹The men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them, until they came under Beth Kar.

¹¹عساکر اسرائیل آن ها را از مِصفه تا بیت کار تعقیب کرده کشته می رفتند.

¹²Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, “Ebenezer” means “stone of help.” saying, “Yahweh helped us until now.”

¹²بعد سموئیل سنگی را برداشته بین مِصفه و سِن قرار داد و آن را اَبَن عَزَر ـ یعنی، سنگ کمک ـ نامید، زیرا او گفت: «تا بحال خداوند به ما کمک کرده است!»

¹³So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel. The hand of Yahweh was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

¹³به این ترتیب، فلسطینی ها شکست خورده دیگر هرگز پای خود را در سرزمین اسرائیل ننهادند، زیرا دست انتقام خداوند تا که سموئیل زنده بود، برعلیه آن ها در کار بود.

¹⁴The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

¹⁴و شهرهای اسرائیلی، از عَقرُون تا جَت که به تصرف فلسطینی ها درآمده بودند، دوباره به دست اسرائیل افتادند. ضمناً بین اسرائیل و اموریان صلح برقرار شد.

¹⁵Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

¹⁵سموئیل تا آخر عمر بحیث داور بر مردم اسرائیل اجرای وظیفه نمود

¹⁶He went from year to year in circuit to Bethel and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.

¹⁶و هر سال به بیت ئیل، جِلجال و مِصفه می رفت و به کارهای مردم رسیدگی می کرد.بعد به خانۀ خود در رامه بر می گشت و به امور قضائی می پرداخت و در همانجا قربانگاهی برای خداوند ساخت.

¹⁷His return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel: and he built there an altar to Yahweh.
