1It happened, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
1وقتی سموئیل به سن پیری رسید، پسران خود را بعنوان داور بر مردم اسرائیل مقرر کرد.
2Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah: they were judges in Beersheba.
2نام پسر اول او یوئیل و از دومی اَبیّاه بود که در محکمۀ بئرشِبع داور بودند.
3His sons didn’t walk in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.
3مگر پسرانش براه او نرفتند. آن ها برای منفعت شخصی خود کار کرده رشوت می گرفتند و عدالت را پایمال می نمودند.
4Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel to Ramah;
4پس همه ریش سفیدان قوم یکجا شده پیش سموئیل به رامه رفتند
5and they said to him, “Behold, you are old, and your sons don’t walk in your ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
5و به او گفتند: «خودت پیر و سالخورده شده ای و پسرانت هم براه تو نمی روند، بنابران، ما می خواهیم که ما هم مثل اقوام دیگر پادشاهی داشته باشیم تا بر ما حکومت کند.»
6But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” Samuel prayed to Yahweh.
6سموئیل از این حرف آن ها که گفتند: «ما پادشاه می خواهیم»، بسیار متأثر شد، بنابران، بحضور خداوند دعا کرده از او مشورت خواست.
7Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.
7خداوند به سموئیل فرمود: «برو، هرچه می گویند قبول کن. آن ها می خواهند مرا ترک کنند نه ترا و میل ندارند که از این ببعد پادشاه آن ها باشم.
8According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also to you.
8از همان روزی که آن ها را از کشور مصر خارج کردم، همیشه سرکشی کرده اند و پیرو خدایان دیگر بوده اند. حالا با تو هم همان معامله را می کنند.
9Now therefore listen to their voice: however you shall protest solemnly to them, and shall show them the way of the king who shall reign over them.”
9پس برو و خواهش آن ها را بجا آور، اما به آن ها اخطار کن و از رفتار و شخصیت پادشاهی که بر آن ها حکومت بکند، آن ها را با خبر ساز.»
10Samuel told all the words of Yahweh to the people who asked of him a king.
10سموئیل آنچه را که خداوند فرموده بود به کسانی که از او پادشاه می خواستند گفت.
11He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them to him, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots;
11«طرز حکومت پادشاه به این ترتیب می باشد: او پسران شما را بوظیفۀ شاطری و بحیث سوارکار می گمارد تا پیشاپیش عرادۀ او بروند.
12and he will appoint them to him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.
12صاحب منصبان نظامی را به رتبه های مختلف مقرر می کند تا سپاه او را در جنگ رهبری نمایند. بعضی را مأمور می سازد که زمین های او را قلبه و محصولات او را درو کنند و تجهیزات نظامی و پرزه جات عراده های او را بسازند.
13He will take your daughters to be perfumers, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
13دختران تان را برای عطرسازی، آشپزی و نان پزی می برد.
14He will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive groves, even their best, and give them to his servants.
14بهترین زمین های زراعتی، باغهای انگور و زیتون شما را گرفته به خدمتگاران خود می بخشد.
15He will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
15ده فیصد غله و انگور تان را به مأمورین و ملازمین خود می دهد.
16He will take your male servants, and your female servants, and your best young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work.
16غلامان، کنیزان، بهترین حیوانات گله و خرهای شما را بغرض کارهای شخصی خود می گیرد.
17He will take the tenth of your flocks: and you shall be his servants.
17ده فیصد رمۀ شما را هم گرفته خود تان را غلام خود می سازد.
18You shall cry out in that day because of your king whom you shall have chosen you; and Yahweh will not answer you in that day.”
18در آن روز از دست پادشاهی که برای خود انتخاب کرده اید، فریاد و فغان خواهید کرد، اما خداوند به داد تان نخواهد رسید.»
19But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No; but we will have a king over us,
19با همۀ این دلایل باز هم مردم اصرار کردند و گفتند: «ما یک پادشاه می خواهیم،
20that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.”
20چون آرزو داریم که مثل اقوام دیگر باشیم. او بر ما سلطنت کند و رهبر ما در جنگ باشد.»
21Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Yahweh.
21وقتی سموئیل سخنان آن ها را شنید همه را بحضور خداوند عرض کرد.خداوند به سموئیل فرمود: «هرچه مردم می خواهند بکن. برو برای شان پادشاهی انتخاب نما.» سموئیل به مردم گفت که فعلاً به خانه های خود برگردند.
22Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and make them a king.” Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Every man go to his city.”
22خداوند به سموئیل فرمود: «هرچه مردم می خواهند بکن. برو برای شان پادشاهی انتخاب نما.» سموئیل به مردم گفت که فعلاً به خانه های خود برگردند.
