¹Joash was seven years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah, of Beersheba.

¹یوآش هفت ساله بود که پادشاه شد و مدت چهل سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد. نام مادرش زِبیه و از باشندگان بئرشِبع بود.

²Joash did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

²یوآش در سراسر دوران عمر یَهویاداع کاهن، با اعمال نیک خود رضایت خداوند را حاصل کرد.

³Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he became the father of sons and daughters.

³یَهویاداع برای او دو زن گرفت که از آن ها دارای چند پسر و دختر شد.

⁴It happened after this, that Joash intended to restore the house of Yahweh.

⁴بعد از مدتی یوآش تصمیم گرفت که عبادتگاه خداوند را ترمیم کند.

⁵He gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money to repair the house of your God from all Israel from year to year. See that you expedite this matter.” However the Levites didn’t do it right away.

⁵بنابران، کاهنان و لاویان را جمع کرد و به آن ها گفت: «به تمام شهرهای یَهُودا بروید و برای ترمیم عبادتگاه خداوند اعانه جمع کنید و هرچه زودتر در این کار عجله نمائید.» اما لاویان معطل شدند.

⁶The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of Yahweh, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the tent of the testimony?”

⁶پس پادشاه یَهُوداع کاهن را بحضور خود خواند و به او گفت: «چرا لاویان را نفرستادی تا مالیه ای را که موسی، خدمتگار خداوند، بر مردم اسرائیل وضع کرده است از یَهُودا و اورشلیم جمع کنند و برای خیمۀ حضور خداوند بیاورند؟»

⁷For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of the house of Yahweh to the Baals.

⁷(پسران عتَلیای شریر به عبادتگاه خداوند هجوم برده و تمام اشیای مقدس آنرا وقف معبد بَعل کرده بودند.)

⁸So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of Yahweh.

⁸پادشاه امر کرد که صندوقی بسازند و در بیرون دروازۀ عبادتگاه بگذارند.

⁹They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for Yahweh the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

⁹آنگاه به تمام شهرهای یَهُودا اعلان کرد تا مالیه ای را که موسی، خدمتگار خداوند، در بیابان بر مردم اسرائیل وضع کرده بود، بیاورند.

¹⁰All the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

¹⁰پس تمام سرکردگان قوم و مردم با کمال خوشی آنقدر پول آوردند که صندوق لبالب پُر شد.

¹¹It was so, that whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

¹¹هر وقتیکه صندوق پُر می شد، لاویان آنرا برای مأمورین شاه می بردند. در آنجا منشی شاه، مأمورین و رئیس کاهنان صندوق را خالی می کردند و آنرا دوباره بجایش می فرستادند. این کار همه روزه صورت می گرفت و به این ترتیب، پول زیادی جمع شد.

¹²The king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of Yahweh; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of Yahweh, and also such as worked iron and brass to repair the house of Yahweh.

¹²بعد پادشاه و یَهویاداع پول را به کسانی که مسئول ترمیم عبادتگاه خداوند بودند، دادند تا از آن پول اجورۀ معمار و نجار و دیگر کسانی که کارهای مسگری و آهنگری را می کردند، بپردازند.

¹³So the workmen worked, and the work of repairing went forward in their hands, and they set up God’s house in its state, and strengthened it.

¹³پس کارگران شروع به کار کردند و کار ترمیم به انجام رسید و عبادتگاه خداوند از حالت اولیه اش هم بهتر و مستحکمتر شد.

¹⁴When they had made an end, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for the house of Yahweh, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in the house of Yahweh continually all the days of Jehoiada.

¹⁴وقتیکه کار ترمیم تمام شد، بقیۀ پول را برای پادشاه و یَهویاداع بردند و از آن پول ظروف طلا و نقره، از قبیل قاشق، کاسه و آلاتی که جهت قربانی سوختنی به کار می رفتند، برای عبادتگاه خداوند ساختند و تا که یَهویاداع زنده بود، همیشه قربانی سوختنی در عبادتگاه خداوند تقدیم می شد.

¹⁵But Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died; one hundred thirty years old was he when he died.

¹⁵یَهویاداع پیر و سالخورده شد و وقتیکه فوت کرد یکصد و سی ساله بود.

¹⁶They buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

¹⁶چون او در اسرائیل و برای خداوند خدمات بزرگی کرده بود، بنابران او را در شهر داود در مقبرۀ پادشاهان دفن کردند.

¹⁷Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king listened to them.

¹⁷بعد از وفات یَهویاداع، رهبران یَهُودا پیش پادشاه آمدند و او را تحریک کردند که به سخنان آن ها گوش بدهد.

¹⁸They forsook the house of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols: and wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.

¹⁸بنابران، آن ها عبادتگاه خداوند، خدای اجداد خود را ترک نمودند و به پرستش اَشیره و بتها پرداختند. بخاطر این گناه، غضب خداوند بر یَهُودا و اورشلیم آمد.

¹⁹Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to Yahweh; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

¹⁹اما باز هم خداوند انبیاء را فرستاد تا آن ها را نصیحت کنند و بسوی او برگردانند، ولی آن ها گوش ندادند.

²⁰The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you disobey the commandments of Yahweh, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken Yahweh, he has also forsaken you.’”

²⁰آنگاه فرشتۀ خدا بر زکریا پسر یَهُویاداعِ کاهن آمد. او در برابر مردم ایستاد و به آن ها گفت: «خداوند چنین می فرماید: چرا شما از اوامر من اطاعت نمی کنید و روز بد را بر سر خود می آورید؟ پس حالا بخاطریکه شما مرا ترک کردید، من هم شما را ترک کرده ام.»

²¹They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of Yahweh.

²¹لیکن مردم بر ضد او توطئه کردند و به امر شاه او را در حویلی عبادتگاه سنگسار نمودند.

²²Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May Yahweh look at it, and repay it.”

²²به این ترتیب، یوآش همه خوبیها و مهربانی هائی را که یَهویاداع، پدر زکریا به او نشان داده بود، فراموش کرد و در عوض پسر او را کشت. هنگامی که زکریا جان می داد، گفت: «خداوند این را ببیند و از شما بازخواست کند.»

²³It happened at the end of the year, that the army of the Syrians came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus.

²³در اخیر همان سال سپاه سوریه برای حمله بر یَهُودا آمد و یَهُودا و اورشلیم را فتح کردند. رهبران آن ها را بقتل رساندند و غنیمت زیادی برای پادشاه دمشق بردند.

²⁴For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Yahweh delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

²⁴باوجودیکه عساکر سوریه بسیار کم بود، مگر خداوند سپاه بزرگ یَهُودا را به دست شان تسلیم کرد، زیرا مردم یَهُودا خداوند، خدای اجداد خود را فراموش نمودند، بنابران، یوآش بسزای اعمال خود رسید.

²⁵When they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings.

²⁵عساکر سوریه برگشتند و او را که سخت زخمی شده بود ترک کردند. مأمورین خودش بر ضد او توطئه نمودند و به انتقام خون پسر یَهویاداع کاهن او را در بسترش کشتند. پس از آنکه او را بقتل رساندند، جنازه اش را به شهر داود بردند، اما در مقبرۀ شاهی دفن نکردند.

²⁶These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

²⁶آنهائی که برضد او توطئه نمودند، زاباد، پسر شِمعۀ عَمونی و یَهُوزاباد، پسر شمریت موابی بودند.داستان پسران او، پیشگوئی هائی که در بارۀ او کردند و تفصیل تعمیر دوبارۀ عبادتگاه خدا، همه در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان ثبت اند. بعد از مرگ یوآش پسرش، اَمَصیا جانشین او شد.

²⁷Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid on him, and the rebuilding of God’s house, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

²⁷داستان پسران او، پیشگوئی هائی که در بارۀ او کردند و تفصیل تعمیر دوبارۀ عبادتگاه خدا، همه در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان ثبت اند. بعد از مرگ یوآش پسرش، اَمَصیا جانشین او شد.
