¹Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.

²Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper room that was in Samaria, and was sick. So he sent messengers, and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover of this sickness.”

²اخزیا از کلکین بالاخانۀ قصر خود افتاده و زخمی شده بود. پس چند نفر را پیش بعل زَبوب، خدای عَقرُون (شهری در فلیستیا) فرستاد و گفت بروید و از او بپرسید که آیا من از این مرض شفا می یابم یا نه.

³But the angel of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and tell them, ‘Is it because there is no God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” in Israel, that you go to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron?

³اما فرشتۀ خداوند به اِیلیای تِشبی گفت: «برخیز و به ملاقات قاصدان پادشاه سامره برو و به آن ها بگو که چرا پیش بعل زَبوب می روند و از او مشوره می خواهند. آیا فکر می کنند که در اسرائیل خدائی وجود ندارد؟

⁴Now therefore thus says Yahweh, “You shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.”’” Elijah departed.

⁴پس به آن ها بگو که برگردند و به پادشاه بگویند که خداوند می فرماید: او از بستر مریضی بر نمی خیزد و حتماً می میرد.» ایلیا رفت و به آن ها خبر داد.

⁵The messengers returned to him, and he said to them, “Why is it that you have returned?”

⁵قاصدان پیش شاه برگشتند و شاه از آن ها پرسید: «چرا برگشتید؟»

⁶They said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and tell him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you send to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”’”

⁶آن ها جواب دادند: «در بین راه با مردی برخوردیم و او به ما گفت: برگردید و به پادشاه خود که شما را فرستاده است بگوئید که خداوند می فرماید: آیا در اسرائیل خدائی نیست که تو از بعل زَبوب، خدای عِقرون مشوره می خواهی؟ بنابران از بستر مریضی بر نمی خیزی و حتماً می میری.»

⁷He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you, and told you these words?”

⁷پادشاه پرسید: «او چگونه شخصی بود؟»

⁸They answered him, “He was a hairy man, and wearing a leather belt around his waist.” He said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

⁸آن ها جواب دادند: «او مردی بود با بدن پُرموی و یک کمربند چرمی بکمر داشت.» پادشاه گفت: «او اِیلیای تِشبی است.»

⁹Then the king sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. He went up to him; and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’”

⁹آنگاه پادشاه یکی از افسران نظامی خود را با پنجاه نفر از سپاهیانش پیش ایلیا فرستاد. او براه افتاد و ایلیا را دید که بر تپه ای نشسته است و به او گفت: «ای مرد خدا، پادشاه امر کرده است که پیش او بروی.»

¹⁰Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty!” Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁰ایلیا در جواب آن افسر گفت: «اگر من مرد خدا هستم، پس آتشی از آسمان فرود آید و ترا با پنجاه نفر همراهانت نابود کند.» ناگهان آتشی از آسمان پائین افتاد و آن افسر را با پنجاه نفر سپاهیانش هلاک کرد.

¹¹Again he sent to him another captain of fifty and his fifty. He answered him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down quickly!’”

¹¹پادشاه باز یکی از افسران خود را با پنجاه نفر پیش ایلیا فرستاد. او رفت به ایلیا گفت: «ای مرد خدا، پادشاه امر کرده است که فوراً پیش او بروی.»

¹²Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty!” The fire of God came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹²ایلیا گفت: «اگر من مرد خدا هستم، پس آتشی از آسمان فرود آید و ترا با پنجاه نفر سپاهیانت از بین ببرد.» دفعتاً آتشی از جانب خداوند پائین آمد و او را با پنجاه نفر همراهانش نابود کرد.

¹³Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and begged him, and said to him, “Man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty your servants, be precious in your sight.

¹³پادشاه بار سوم یک افسر را با پنجاه نفر پیش ایلیا فرستاد. افسر رفت و در برابر ایلیا زانو زد و با زاری گفت: «ای مرد خدا، از تو تمنا می کنم که به من و همراهانم رحم کنی.

¹⁴Behold, fire came down from the sky, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties. But now let my life be precious in your sight.”

¹⁴آن دو افسری که با سپاهیان خود پیشتر از من بحضور تو آمدند با آتش آسمانی هلاک شدند، اما بر ما رحم داشته باش.»

¹⁵The angel of Yahweh said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.” He arose, and went down with him to the king.

¹⁵آنگاه فرشتۀ خداوند آمد و به ایلیا گفت: «همراه او برو و نترس.» پس ایلیا برخاست و با او پیش پادشاه رفت

¹⁶He said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”

¹⁶و به او گفت: «خداوند می فرماید که تو قاصدانت را پیش بعل زَبوب، خدای عِقرون فرستادی و فکر کردی که خدائی در اسرائیل وجود ندارد، بنابران از بستر مریضی ات زنده بر نمی خیزی و حتماً می میری.»

¹⁷So he died according to the word of Yahweh which Elijah had spoken. Jehoram began to reign in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.

¹⁷به این ترتیب، قراریکه خداوند به ایلیا فرموده بود، اخزیا مُرد، و برادرش یَهُورام پادشاه اسرائیل شد، زیرا اخزیا پسری نداشت. شروع سلطنت او در سال دوم سلطنت یَهُورام، پسر یهوشافاط، پادشاه یهودا بود.بقیه وقایع دوران سلطنت اخزیا و کارروائی های او در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان اسرائیل ثبت اند.
