¹Now it happened in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

¹در سال سوم سلطنت هوشع، پسر اِیله، پادشاه اسرائیل بود که حِزقِیا، پسر آحاز پادشاه یهودا شد.

²He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.

²او بیست و پنج ساله بود که به سلطنت رسید و مدت بیست و نُه سال در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد. نام مادرش اَبی و دختر زِکَریا بود.

³He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that David his father had done.

³او مثل جد خود، داود با اعمال نیک خود خداوند را خوشنود و راضی ساخت.

⁴He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah: and he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.

⁴معابد بالای تپه ها را از بین برد، مجسمه های سنگی و بت اَشیره را شکست و مار برنجی را که نامش نَحُشتان و موسی آنرا ساخته بود و بخاطریکه مردم اسرائیل برای آن قربانی می کردند تکه تکه کرد

⁵He trusted in Yahweh, the God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.

⁵و به خداوند، خدای اسرائیل توکل نمود. خلاصه هیچیک از پادشاهان اسرائیل ـ نه پیش از او و نه بعد از او ـ شخصیت او را نداشت.

⁶For he joined with Yahweh; he didn’t depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which Yahweh commanded Moses.

⁶به خداوند وفادار بود. از احکامی که خداوند به موسی داده بود همیشه پیروی می کرد.

⁷Yahweh was with him; wherever he went forth he prospered: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and didn’t serve him.

⁷خداوند با او بود و به هر کاری که دست می زد پیروز می شد. او در مقابل پادشاه آشور قیام کرد و نخواست که تابع او باشد.

⁸He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.

⁸فلسطینی ها را شکست داد و تا به غزه و اطراف آن حمله برد و شهرهای آنرا از خورد تا بزرگ تصرف کرد.

⁹It happened in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

⁹در سال چهارم حِزقِیا و سال هفتم پادشاهی هوشع، پسر اِیله، پادشاه اسرائیل بود که شَلمَناسَر، پادشاه آشور، به سامره حمله کرد و آنرا محاصره نمود،

¹⁰At the end of three years they took it: in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

¹⁰و در پایان سال سوم آنرا متصرف شد. در سال ششم سلطنت حِزقِیا و در سال نهم پادشاهی هوشع، تمام سرزمین سامره را فتح کرد.

¹¹The king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,

¹¹پادشاه آشور، مردم اسرائیل را اسیر کرده به آشور برد. بعضی از آن ها را در شهر حَلَح، بعضی را در کنار دریای خابور، در ناحیۀ جوزان و بعضی را در شهرهای مِیدِیان جا داد،

¹²because they didn’t obey the voice of Yahweh their God, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded, and would not hear it, nor do it.

¹²زیرا آن ها به کلام خداوند، خدای خود اعتنا نکردند، پیمان او را شکستند و احکامی را که ذریعۀ بندۀ خود، موسی به آن ها داده بود، نه به آن ها گوش دادند و نه از آن ها پیروی کردند.

¹³Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.

¹³در سال چهاردهم سلطنت حِزقِیا بود که سِناخِریب، پادشاه آشور به یهودا حمله کرده آنرا فتح نمود و شهرهای مستحکم آن را تسخیر نمود.

¹⁴Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, “I have offended; return from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

¹⁴حِزقِیا پیامی به این مضمون به سِناخِریب که در لاکیش بود فرستاد: «من خطا کرده ام؛ لشکرت را از اینجا بیرون کن و هر چیزیکه بخواهی برایت انجام می دهم.» پس پادشاه آشور از او درخواست کرد که برایش سیصد وزنۀ نقره و سی وزنۀ طلا بفرستد.

¹⁵Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasures of the king’s house.

¹⁵حِزقِیا تمام نقره ای را که در خزانه های عبادتگاه خداوند و قصر شاهی بود برای او فرستاد.

¹⁶At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of Yahweh’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

¹⁶او همچنین طلاهائی را که خودش با آن ها دروازه ها و ستونهای عبادتگاه خداوند را پوشانده بود جدا کرد و به پادشاه آشور داد.

¹⁷The king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

¹⁷پادشاه آشور سه نفر از مأمورین خود را که القاب شان تَرتان، رَبساریس و رَبشاقی بود، با لشکر بزرگی از لاکیش فرستاد. آن ها در نزدیک حوض بالا، در امتداد شاهراه، در کنار مزرعۀ کازر موضع گرفتند.

¹⁸When they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

¹⁸بعد به حِزقِیا خبر دادند و سه نفر از نمایندگان او، یعنی اِلیاقِیم، پسر حِلقیا، منتظم قصر شاهی، شِبنای سرمنشی و یوآخ، پسر آساف، وقایع نگار به ملاقات آن ها رفتند.

¹⁹Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, “What confidence is this in which you trust?

¹⁹فرماندار نظامی به آن ها گفت: «امپراطور آشور می خواهد بداند که چرا حِزقِیا اینقدر بخود متیقن است؟

²⁰You say (but they are but vain words), ‘There is counsel and strength for war.’ Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?

²⁰آیا محض حرف خالی می تواند در برابر قدرت نظامی مقاومت کند؟ تو با پشتیبانی چه کسی در مقابل من دست بشورش زده ای؟

²¹Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand, and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.

²¹تو از مصر انتظار کمک را داری، اما آن ها مثل نَی شکسته ای هستند که هر که آنرا عصای خود سازد و بر آن تکیه کند بدستش فرو رفته زخمی اش می کند. فرعون، پادشاه مصر برای هر کسیکه به او اعتماد نماید بمنزلۀ همان نَی است.

²²But if you tell me, ‘We trust in Yahweh our God;’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?’

²²اگر می گوئی: «ما به خداوند، خدای خود توکل داریم.» پس آیا خودت نبودی که معابد و قربانگاه های خداوند را ویران کردی؟ آیا تو مردم یهودا و اورشلیم را تشویق نکردی و نگفتی که آن ها باید در مقابل قربانگاه اورشلیم عبادت کنند.

²³Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.

²³من از طرف آقای خود، پادشاه آشور با تو شرط می بندم و به تو دو هزار اسپ می دهم که نتوانی بهمان تعداد نفر پیدا کنی که بر آن ها سوار شوند!

²⁴How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

²⁴تو خودت متکی به عراده و سواران مصری هستی و قادر نیستی که حتی یک افسر سادۀ آقایم را شکست بدهی.

²⁵Have I now come up without Yahweh against this place to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”’”

²⁵آیا تو خیال می کنی که ما به میل و ارادۀ خود به اینجا آمده ایم؟ نی، ما را خداوند به اینجا فرستاد و فرمود که بیائیم، حمله کنیم و اینجا را از بین ببریم.»

²⁶Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it. Don’t speak with us in the Jews’ language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”

²⁶آنگاه اِلیاقِیم، شِبنا و یوآخ به رَبشاقی گفتند: «لطفاً با این خدمتگارانت بزبان ارامی حرف بزن که ما آنرا می دانیم، بزبان یهودی صحبت نکن، زیرا مردمیکه بر سر دیوار هستند می شنوند.»

²⁷But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to your master, and to you, to speak these words? Hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?”

²⁷اما رَبشاقی در جواب آن ها گفت: «آیا فکر می کنی که آقایم مرا فرستاد تا تنها با پادشاه و با شما حرف بزنم؟ نی، ما می خواهیم آنهائی که بر سر دیوار هستند هم حرف ما را بشنوند، زیرا آن ها هم مثل شما محکوم اند تا از نجاست خود بخورند و از ادرار خود بنوشند.»

²⁸Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.

²⁸بعد رَبشاقی برخاست و با آواز بلند بزبان یهودی گفت: «پیام پادشاه بزرگ آشور را بشنوید که می فرماید: نگذارید که حِزقِیا شما را بفریبد، زیرا او نمی تواند شما را از دست من نجات بدهد.

²⁹Thus says the king, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.

²⁹باور نکنید که اگر به شما بگوید: «به خدا اعتماد داشته باشید و او شما را نجات می دهد و پادشاه آشور را از تصرف شهر ما باز می دارد.»

³⁰Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”

³⁰به حرف حِزقِیا گوش ندهید، زیرا پادشاه آشور می گوید: بیائید و تسلیم شوید؛ آنگاه می توانید به آسودگی زندگی کنید. به آرامی از انگور تان بخورید، از انجیر تان استفاده کنید و از آب چاه تان بنوشید.

³¹Don’t listen to Hezekiah.’ For thus says the king of Assyria, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat of his vine, and everyone of his fig tree, and everyone drink the waters of his own cistern;

³¹بعد من می آیم و شما را در سرزمینی مثل کشور خود تان می برم ـ در جائیکه سرشار از غله و شراب، دارای باغهای انگور و زیتون و پُر از عسل است ـ در آنجا با همه نعمت هایش زندگی کنید و در اینجا از قحطی نمیرید. حرف حِزقِیا را باور نکنید. او شما را فریب می دهد و می گوید: «خداوند ما را نجات می دهد.»

³²until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live, and not die. Don’t listen to Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, “Yahweh will deliver us.”

³²کدامیک از خدایان مردم توانسته است که کشور خود را از دست پادشاه آشور نجات بدهد؟

³³Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

³³بر سر خدایان حمات و اَرفاد چه آمد؟ خدایان سفرایم، هینع و عِوا کجا هستند؟ آیا آن ها توانستند سامره را نجات بدهند؟

³⁴Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

³⁴در صورتیکه خدایان آن ممالک نتوانستند خود را از دست من نجات بدهند، پس خداوند چطور می تواند اورشلیم را از دست من رهائی بخشد؟»

³⁵Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”

³⁵مردم همه خاموش ماندند و حرفی بزبان نیاوردند، زیرا پادشاه امر کرده بود که جوابی به آن ها ندهند.آنگاه اِلیاقِیم، شِبنا و یوآخ با جامه های دریده پیش حِزقِیا رفتند و پیام رَبشاقی را به او رساندند.

³⁶But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”

³⁶آنگاه اِلیاقِیم، شِبنا و یوآخ با جامه های دریده پیش حِزقِیا رفتند و پیام رَبشاقی را به او رساندند.

³⁷Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
