1Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
1در سال هجدهم سلطنت یهوشافاط، پادشاه یهودا، یَهُورام، پسر اخاب بعنوان پادشاه اسرائیل در سامره بر تخت سلطنت نشست و مدت دوازده سال پادشاهی کرد.
2He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, but not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
2او یک شخص بدکار بود که در برابر خداوند گناه ورزید، ولی نه بدتر از پدر و مادر خود، زیرا بت بعل را که پدرش ساخته بود شکست.
3Nevertheless he held to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; he didn’t depart from it.
3ولی همان راه گناه را که یَرُبعام، پسر نباط، پیش از او رفته بود تعقیب نمود و آنرا ترک نکرد و باعث شد که مردم اسرائیل مرتکب گناه شوند.
4Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he rendered to the king of Israel the wool of one hundred thousand lambs, and of one hundred thousand rams.
4مِیشَع، پادشاه موآب که دارای رمه و گلۀ بسیار بود سالانه یکصد هزار بره و پشم یکصد هزار قوچ را به پادشاه اسرائیل می داد.
5But it happened, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
5اما بعد از آنکه اخاب درگذشت پادشاه موآب برضد پادشاه اسرائیل شورش کرد.
6King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.
6بنابران یَهُورام سپاه اسرائیل را مجهز ساخت و از سامره به عزم جنگ رفت.
7He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?” He said, “I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
7در عین حال پیامی به این مضمون به یهوشافاط، پادشاه یهودا فرستاد: «پادشاه موآب برضد من شورش کرده است. آیا می خواهی همراه من بجنگ موآبیان بروی؟» او جواب داد: «بلی، می روم؛ من در خدمت تو هستم. همچنین مردم و اسپهای من برای هر امری حاضر اند.»
8He said, “Which way shall we go up?” He answered, “The way of the wilderness of Edom.”
8بعد پرسید: «از کدام راه برای جنگ برویم؟» او جواب داد: «از راه بیابان ادوم.»
9So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days’ journey. There was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them.
9پس پادشاهان اسرائیل، ادوم و یهودا براه افتادند و بعد از هفت روز ذخیرۀ آب شان تمام شد و لشکر و حیوانات شان آب برای خوردن نداشتند.
10The king of Israel said, “Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
10آنگاه پادشاه اسرائیل پرسید: «حالا چه چاره کنیم؟ خداوند ما سه پادشاه را به اینجا آورد که به دست موآبیان تسلیم کند.»
11But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him?” One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.”
11یهوشافاط گفت: «آیا در اینجا کدام نبی پیدا می شود که از طرف ما بحضور خداوند شفاعت کند؟» یکی از مأمورین پادشاه اسرائیل جواب داد: «الیشع، پسر شافاط که شاگرد ایلیا بود اینجا است.»
12Jehoshaphat said, “The word of Yahweh is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
12یهوشافاط گفت: «او یک نبی واقعی است.» پس هر سه پادشاه پیش الیشع رفتند.
13Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother.” The king of Israel said to him, “No; for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
13الیشع به پادشاه اسرائیل گفت: «من با شما کاری ندارم. بروید پیش انبیای پدر و مادر تان.» اما پادشاه اسرائیل جواب داد: «نی، زیرا خداوند ما سه پادشاه را به اینجا آورد تا به دست موآبیان تسلیم کند.»
14Elisha said, “As Yahweh of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
14الیشع گفت: «بنام خدای زنده که بندگی او را می کنم قسم است که اگر بخاطر احترام یهوشافاط نمی بود حتی برویت نگاه هم نمی کردم.
15But now bring me a minstrel.” It happened, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Yahweh came on him.
15حالا بروید یک نوازنده را برای من بیاورید.» بعد وقتی نوازنده بنواختن شروع کرد، خداوند به الیشع قدرت بخشید
16He said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’
16و بزبان آمد و گفت: «خداوند می فرماید که این وادی خشک را پُر از حوض های آب می کند،
17For thus says Yahweh, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your animals.
17و شما بدون اینکه باد و باران را ببینید این وادی از آب لبریز می شود تا شما و همچنان حیوانات تان از آن استفاده کنید.»
18This is but a light thing in the sight of Yahweh. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
18بعد اضافه کرد: «البته این چیزیکه گفتم جزئی ترین کاری است که خداوند برای شما می کند، زیرا او شما را بر موآبیان هم پیروز می سازد.
19You shall strike every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’”
19شما تمام شهرهای زیبا و مستحکم آن ها را فتح و درختان میوه دار شان را قطع می کنید. چشمه های آب آن ها را می بندید و مزارع خوب شان را با سنگ از بین می برید.»
20It happened in the morning, about the time of offering the offering, that behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
20روز دیگر، هنگام ادای قربانی صبحانه، دفعتاً آب از جانب ادوم جاری گردید و تمام آن سرزمین پُر از آب شد.
21Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, and upward, and stood on the border.
21وقتی موآبیان خبر شدند که پادشاهان بجنگ شان آمده اند، همۀ آنهائی که سلاح را برده می توانستند جلب شدند و در امتداد سرحد موضع گرفتند.
22They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water over against them as red as blood.
22فردای آن، هنگام صبح وقتی برخاستند، آفتاب بر سطح آب می درخشید و آب برنگ خون معلوم می شد.
23They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the spoil!”
23آن ها گفتند: «ببینید، همه جا را خون گرفته است. مثلیکه آن سه لشکر بین خود جنگ کرده و یکدیگر خود را کشته اند. بیائید که برویم و اردوگاه شان را تاراج کنیم.»
24When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land smiting the Moabites.
24اما وقتی به اردوگاه آن ها رسیدند، سپاه اسرائیل بر آن ها حمله کرد و آن ها را وادار به عقب نشینی نمودند. سپاه اسرائیل به تعقیب شان رفت و آن ها را کشت
25They beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land they cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the springs of water, and felled all the good trees, until in Kir Hareseth only they left its stones; however the men armed with slings went about it, and struck it.
25و شهرهای شان را ویران کرد. وقتی سربازان اسرائیل از مزارع حاصلخیز شان می گذشتند هر یک از آن ها یک سنگ انداخت تا اینکه همه زمینهای شان از سنگ پوشیده شدند. مردم اسرائیل همچنان چشمه های شان را بستند و درختان میوه دار آن ها را قطع کردند. در آخر تنها پایتخت شان، قیرحارَس باقی ماند، اما بعداً آنرا محاصره کردند و با منجنیق ها به آن حمله نمودند.
26When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.
26وقتی پادشاه موآب دید که جنگ را می بازد، بنابران هفتصد نفر شمشیرزن را با خود گرفت و می خواست که صف دشمن را شگافته پیش پادشاه ادوم فرار کند، اما موفق نشد.آنوقت پسر اولباری خود را بُرد و بر سر دیوار قربانی کرد. چون عساکر اسرائیلی آن را دیدند با نفرت دست از حمله کشیده به کشور خود برگشتند.
27Then he took his eldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. There was great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
27آنوقت پسر اولباری خود را بُرد و بر سر دیوار قربانی کرد. چون عساکر اسرائیلی آن را دیدند با نفرت دست از حمله کشیده به کشور خود برگشتند.
