1It happened after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
1پس از چندی ناحاش پادشاه عمونیان مُرد و حانون، پسرش، جانشین او شد.
2David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
2داود گفت: «بخاطریکه پدر او ناحاش با من همیشه مهربان و وفادار بود، من هم بپاس خوبی های او به پسرش احسان و خوبی می کنم.» پس داود تسلیت نامه ای به دست خادمان خود برای او فرستاد. وقتی خادمان داود به سرزمین عمونیان آمدند،
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”
3مأمورین حانون به او گفتند: «این اشخاص را داود برای تسلیت و بخاطر احترام به پدرت نفرستاده است. اینها برای جاسوسی آمده اند تا پیش از آنکه به ما حمله کنند وضع و حال اینجا را بررسی نمایند.»
4So Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
4بنابران، حانون فرستاده های داود را گرفته، ریش یک طرف صورت شانرا تراشید و لباس شانرا از پشت پاره کرده، ایشان را نیمه برهنه به کشور شان برگردانید.
5When they told it to David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
5وقتی داود از ماجرا خبر شد، برای قاصدان پیام فرستاده گفت که در اریحا بمانند تا ریش شان برسد، زیرا آن ها از وضعی که داشتند خجالت می کشیدند.
6When the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
6پسانتر عمونیان پی بردند که با کاری که کرده اند خشم و غضب داود را برانگیخته اند. لهذا بیست هزار عسکر پیاده را از آرامیان بیت رِحوب و صوبه، یکهزار نفر را از پادشاه معکه و دوازده هزار نفر را از مردم طوب اجیر کردند.
7When David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men.
7از طرف دیگر چون به داود خبر رسید، یوآب را با همه سپاه نیرومند بنی اسرائیل برای حمله فرستاد.
8The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate: and the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
8عمونیان برای دفاع به دروازه شهر سنگر گرفتند و عساکر آرامیانِ بیت رِحوب و صوبه و معکه در دشت صف آراستند.
9Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
9چون یوآب دید که بین دو صف دشمن قرار دارد، بنابران، یک دسته از بهترین جنگجویان لشکر را انتخاب کرده آن ها را برای مقابله با آرامیان به دشت راهنمائی کرد.
10The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
10بقیۀ قوا را بسرکردگی برادر خود، ابیشای به جنگ عمونیان فرستاد.
11He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.
11یوآب به برادر خود گفت: «اگر دیدی که آرامیان بر ما غالب شد به کمک ما بیا و اگر عمونیان بر سر شما فشار آورد آنوقت ما به کمک شما می آئیم.
12Be courageous, and let us be strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”
12دلیر و شجاع باشید و برای مردم و شهرهای خدای خود مردانه وار بجنگید. هرچه که رضای خداوند باشد، ما به آن تن می دهیم.»
13So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
13پس یوآب و سپاه او بر آرامیان حمله کردند و آرامیان همگی گریختند.
14When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
14چون عمونیان دیدند که آرامیان فرار می کنند، آن ها هم از ترس ابیشای به داخل شهر گریختند و یوآب بعد از جنگ با عمونیان به اورشلیم برگشت.
15When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.
15چون آرامیان پی بردند که از دست بنی اسرائیل شکست خوردند، دوباره لشکر خود را آماده و مجهز کردند.
16Hadadezer sent, and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River: and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.
16هدد عزر برای کمک اضافی، آرامیانی را که در شرق دریای فرات بودند جلب کرد. آنگاه همگی به سرکردگی شوبک، سپهسالار هدد عزر به حیلام آمدند.
17It was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
17وقتی داود از جریان باخبر شد، خودش شخصاً سپاه بنی اسرائیل را از دریای اُردن عبور داده بسوی حیلام رهبری کرد. آنگاه آرامیان حمله را شروع کرده به جنگ پرداختند.
18The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrians seven hundred charioteers, and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.
18اما مقاومت کرده نتوانستند و دوباره گریختند. داود هفتصد رانندۀ عراده های جنگی و چهل هزار سوار آرامیان را همراه با سپهسالار شان کشت.وقتی پادشاهانی که تابع هدد عزر بودند دیدند که از دست بنی اسرائیل شکست خوردند، با بنی اسرائیل صلح کردند و تابع آن ها شدند و آرامیان، دیگر از ترس به کمک عمونیان نرفتند.
19When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
19وقتی پادشاهانی که تابع هدد عزر بودند دیدند که از دست بنی اسرائیل شکست خوردند، با بنی اسرائیل صلح کردند و تابع آن ها شدند و آرامیان، دیگر از ترس به کمک عمونیان نرفتند.
