1It happened, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.
1در بهار سال دیگر، وقتی پادشاهان به جنگ شروع می کنند، داود یوآب را با سپاه اسرائیل به جنگ فرستاد. عمونیان را از بین بردند و شهر رَبه را محاصره کردند. اما خود داود در اورشلیم ماند.
2It happened at evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look on.
2یکروز، بعد از ظهر داود از بستر برخاست و به بام قصر رفت و به قدم زدن پرداخت. از سر بام نظرش بر زنی افتاد که حمام می کرد. آن زن زیبائی فوق العاده ای داشت.
3David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”
3بعد داود کسی را فرستاد تا بداند که آن زن کیست و معلوم شد که او بَتشِبَع، دختر الیعام و زن اوریای حتی است.
4David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned to her house.
4پس داود قاصدان را فرستاد و آن زن را بحضورش آوردند و داود با او همبستر شد. (آن زن چون بخاطر عادت ماهانه، بی نماز شده بود حمام می کرد.) بعد بخانۀ خود رفت
5The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”
5و پس از مدتی پی برد که حامله است. به داود پیام فرستاد که طفل او را در شکم دارد.
6David sent to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” Joab sent Uriah to David.
6آنگاه داود به یوآب پیام فرستاد و از او خواست که اوریا را بحضور او بفرستد.
7When Uriah had come to him, David asked of him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.
7وقتی اوریا آمد، داود از حال یوآب و سپاه او و وضع جنگ جویا شد.
8David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house, and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.
8بعد به اوریا گفت که به خانۀ خود برود و شستشو کند و تحفه ای هم برای او به خانه اش فرستاد.
9But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and didn’t go down to his house.
9اما اوریا به خانۀ خود نرفت و در پیش دروازۀ قصر با سایر خادمان شاه خوابید.
10When they had told David, saying, “Uriah didn’t go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”
10چون داود خبر شد که اوریا به خانۀ خود نرفته است، او را بحضور خود فراخوانده گفت: «تو مدت زیادی از خانه و جایت دور بودی، پس چرا دیشب پیش زنت به خانه نرفتی؟»
11Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”
11اوریا جواب داد: «آیا روا است که صندوق پیمان خداوند، مردم اسرائیل و یهودا، آقایم یوآب و سپاه او بیرون در دشت بخوابند و من بروم بخانۀ خود بخورم و بنوشم و با زنم خواب شوم. بسر تو و به حیات تو قسم است که هرگز این کار را نمی کنم.»
12David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day, and the next day.
12داود گفت: «امروز هم همینجا بمان و فردا دوباره به اردوگاه برو.» پس اوریا آنروز هم در اورشلیم پائید.
13When David had called him, he ate and drink before him; and he made him drunk. At evening, he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but didn’t go down to his house.
13داود او را برای نان شب دعوت نمود و نشئه اش کرد. شب باز بیرون رفت و با خادمان شاه خوابید و بخانۀ خود نرفت.
14It happened in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
14فردای آن داود نامه ای نوشت و به اوریا داد که برای یوآب بدهد.
15He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck, and die.”
15مضمون نامه به اینقرار بود: «اوریا را در صف اول یک جنگ سخت بفرست و خودت عقب نشینی کن و او را بگذار که کشته شود.»
16It happened, when Joab kept watch on the city, that he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.
16پس یوآب او را در جائی گماشت که نزدیک به شهر محاصره شده بود، یعنی جائیکه بهترین جنگجویان دشمن می جنگیدند.
17The men of the city went out, and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
17آنگاه دشمنان از شهر بیرون آمدند و با یک حمله بسیاری از عساکر بنی اسرائیل را به قتل رساندند که اوریا هم در جملۀ کشته شدگان بود.
18Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
18سپس اخبار جنگ را برای داود فرستاد
19and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,
19و به نامه رسان هدایت داده گفت: «وقتی پیام مرا به پادشاه گفتی
20it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Didn’t you know that they would shoot from the wall?
20و اگر دیدی که پادشاه قهر شد و گفت: «چرا آنقدر به نزدیک شهر رفتید؟ آیا نمی دانستید که دشمن از بالای دیوار تیراندازی می کنند؟
21who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Didn’t a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?’ then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.’”
21آیا اَبیمَلِک، پسر جِدعون را بخاطر ندارید که در شهر تاباز، یک زن آسیا سنگی را از سر دیوار بر او انداخت و او را کشت؟ پس چرا به نزدیک شهر رفتید؟» آنوقت به او بگو که خادمش، اوریا هم کشته شد.»
22So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.
22نامه رسان آمد و پیام یوآب و وقایع جنگ را برای داود گزارش داد
23The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field, and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.
23و گفت: «دشمن از شهر بیرون آمد و به ما حمله کرد. ما آن ها را دوباره به دروازۀ شهر راندیم.
24The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.”
24آنگاه تیراندازان دشمن از بالای دیوار شهر بر ما تیراندازی کردند و بعضی از افراد ما را کشتند و اوریا هم کشته شد.»
25Then David said to the messenger, “Thus you shall tell Joab, ‘Don’t let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”
25داود به قاصد گفت: «برو به یوآب بگو که از این بابت پریشان نباشد. هر کسیکه در دم شمشیر آمد کشته می شود. پس در آینده سخت تر بجنگ و شهر را ویران کن. این را بگو تا خاطر یوآب جمع شود.»
26When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she made lamentation for her husband.
26چون زن اوریا شنید که شوهرش کشته شده است، برایش ماتم گرفت.وقتی دوران سوگواری بپایان رسید، داود او را به کاخ سلطتنی خود آورد و با او عروسی کرد. آن زن برایش پسری بدنیا آورد، اما خداوند از این کار داود ناراضی شد.
27When the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Yahweh.
27وقتی دوران سوگواری بپایان رسید، داود او را به کاخ سلطتنی خود آورد و با او عروسی کرد. آن زن برایش پسری بدنیا آورد، اما خداوند از این کار داود ناراضی شد.
